Washington D.C.

The Heart of Democracy

Washington D.C. – the capital of the greatest nation in the world. The city has been ruled with an iron hand for over a century by powerful Lasombra Antitribu Marcus Vitel. D.C. is the most influential city in the world, but so many of those powers are controlled from outside sources that the dynamics are a lot different. It’s hard to tell who controls the president and Congress, but most of the non-elected posts are controlled from within the city, notably the Supreme Court and the Pentagon, as well as the IRS and other key institutions. The Smithsonian is rumored to be run by a 5th generation Toreador, and other similar rumors populate the rest of the city’s more national organizations.

It should also be noted that Vitel does not allow Anarchy of any kind to occur in his city. He is very, very adamant about this and dozens of Kindred have met final death over the decades over this subject. Vitel’s Lasombra heritage has long been up for question, and he is very, very adamant against the Sabbat and goes to all lengths to *prove* that he is nothing to do with them at all. Another dozen Kindred have lost their unlives in response to this (sometimes irrational) paranoia of the Prince’s. The Sabbat are known to treasure D.C. and its stock of nuclear arms codes.

There are 9 street influence here for any purposes which you may find useful.

Key Kindred:

  • Democritus

The Ventrue Justicar. The most powerful political figure in the United States and possibly the world, he controls the United States Navy. Whether he controls the rest of the Armed Forces in unknown, but he has the personal military might to invade many small nations. He is the Camarilla’s sledge hammer and would be the general in most any major offensive. Spends a significant amount of time in Washington, more so than any other city.

  • Hemmingway

This Brujah actually spends more time in Baltimore than D.C., he is nonetheless the most influential Brujah in town. Not that that is saying much considering Vitel's stranglehold on all important influence.

  • Kipling

A Gangrel who spends much of his time in and around D.C. Has a rivalry with Hemmingway.

  • Marcus Vitel

The imposing Prince of Washington D.C., he is pretty much the standard to which all other Princes compare themselves to. The full range of his influence is uncertain, but his abilities almost certainly include starting a nuclear war at a moment’s notice. Rumored to control the President of the United States and most of its cabinet.
He certainly does control a large portion of the United States supreme court and may control more of the US government than anyone except Democritus.

  • Mr. Black

Mr. Black is a member of the Men in Black, a strange Kindred whose clan is unknown. Vitel seems to tolerate him and the Colonel either knows about him or doesn't care.

  • Peter Dorman

The Tremere Pontifex in charge of government. He is another very influential Tremere, and seems to control many of the city’s Ambassadors and Embassies. The only elder in Washington to comes anywhere near to rivalling Vitel in terms of power. Democritus might’ve had something to do with Vitel allowing him to continue to co-exist in the same city. The two get along with an uneasy truce.

  • The Colonel

The Nosferatu loremaster who dwells under the Pentagon. An extremely powerful and influential Kindred who controls much of the world’s military secrets. Widely known for his tight lips and his high prices. Democritus despises this guy, but there is little the powerful Justicar can do, for the Colonel could cripple his mighty navy with one turn of the budget.

  • Timberlake

A local Nosferatu, high up on the street influence. With the lack of Brujah in the city, those who are normally less inclined to worry about things such as vice cops and street gangs tend to find themselves attracted to the power vacuum. Not well liked by the Prince.
