Ever wonder what racing games you
want to buy? Fan of Sonic and his friends? Then, this game is
suitable for you and no, they don't use cars (except Amy and a
few others) but just running down the track.
Graphics - 9
At first look, they're too amazing to describe. The colours are
brightness are used wisely to make the game much better but just
try and look properly at the characters, they look 'thin', really!
Never mind, this game is one of the first 3D games and it can
considered too good to be true!
Music - 10
The background music have lyrics too and every single track will
have their own theme and style and of course, I love all of them.
The music in each track have their own 'personality' and style.
Take an example from Resort Island. The way the song and lyric
goes can make you fell happy and more energetic. No kidding!
Gameplay - 9
Even if you just get to know Sonic, you really gonna love this
game. Robotnik is on the loose and he plans to take the Chaos
Emeralds again, scattered in every track and of course, hidden in
the doors which can only be accessed by a certain amount of rings.
That's part one.
Part two - you need to get first place after getting the Chaos
Emerald(s) so you can keep it or your effort will be lost. Other
than that, there are shortcuts you can take too and some can only
be used depending on the weather! Yes, the weather can affect the
game too!
If it's snow, the water will be frozen and you don't have to
worry whether you're going to fall into the water while sunny
will have brighter day but falling into the water will slow you
down and other weathers too.
You can play two player game, too which enhances the gameplay
even more! You won't get bored with it immediately.
Story - 9
Basically, the eggy Dr. Robotnik is on the loose, finding the
scattered Chaos Emeralds on the tracks. Tails overheard him and
ran to tell Sonic about the planned race while Amy overheard him
too. So, our four heroes (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy) begin
to enter the race to get the Chaos Emeralds! Getting Chaos
Emeralds will have some effect on him, a real, special one!
Replayability - 9
There are also secret characters that can only be accessed by
getting 5 Sonic Tokens in every track in order to unlock them.
But, you must either get first, second or third place in order to
keep the Sonic Tokens. After that, here comes the hard part. You
need to beat them too to control them and it can be a bit hard.
So, that can add more total replay value.
With the stunning background music and amazing tracks, you'll be
sure to return back to play them!
Overall - 9
Now, this is a Sonic racing game and that's why it's called Sonic
R. Whether you're a fan of Sonic or not, you really must get this
game! Don't just stand there, you'll know what I'm going to say,
'Buy this game, now!' Yes, it's a good replacement after the
disappointment on Sonic Drift.
