Howyadoin' TNM fans and welcome to the unofficial FAQ concerning
TNM. I have devised and typed this out because I feel that there are
a lot of newcomers to TNM who are encountering major problems using
this excellent simulator. Some problems are answered here, well most
of them!!, and some new strategies on how to get a good fed are on
here as well. Thanks a lot and email me if you want a question answered

BASIC TNM QUESTIONS
+-----------------+

*. DENOTES A NEW QUESTION!!

Q. What is TNM?
TNM, which stands for TourNaMent, is a wrestling simulator which allows
you to take a job as a head of a federation e.g. Vince McMahon, Eric
Bischoff...You make all of the decisions regarding your fed, you decide
who feuds with who. You decide how many titles are in your fed and
many other important stuff. TNM features 1000 REAL wrestlers from
the past and present which is unique in the world of wrestling sims.

Q. Who programmed TNM?
Oliver Copp programmed TNM. He can be contacted at copp@tnm7.com

Q. Where can I find a copy of TNM?
You can download a thirty-day trial at TNM's official website which
can be located at http://www.tnm7.com

Q. What version is TNM on at the moment?
The TNM version which is currently available is TNM7 - Release Build 4

Q. Is TNM7 shareware?
Yes it sure is!!. In the United Kingdom (Scotland) it costs a figure
of £21.58 for first time users and £10.80 for registered users of
TNM V6.2plus.

Q. Whats happens when you send off your registration fee?
When Oliver receives your fee he emails you with your registration
codes. This all happens in a region of five days (Europe).

Q. What do you get when you register?
Well, you get your codes for a start!!. The codes in the email include
your TNM7 unlocking password and codes with which you can use to enter
the exclusive registration area of the TNM website.

Q. Can you give somebody else your TNM registration codes?
No, this would be illegal and you could be prosacuted under the
Software Piracy Act.

Q. What is an export?
An export is a small file that contains information regarding either
a wrestler, match or weapon. A wrestler export contains the person's
stats (Height, Weight, etc..) and all the moves that the person does.
It includes many other things but you probably get the general idea.
Same goes for Weapons and Matches.

TIPS ON HOW TO RUN A GOOD FED
+----------------------------+
A good fed not only needs good angles, it needs good wrestlers. Here
are some of the best wrestlers to have in your fed in TNM7

BEST WRESTLERS IN TNM7
+--------------------+
Rob Van Dam
Rey Misterio Jr.
Taka Michinoku
Dan Severn
Steve Regal
Shinjiro Ohtani
Chris Jericho
The Rock
Ken Shamrock
Sabu
Cactus Jack
Hayabusa
Dean Malenko
Chris Benoit
Super Crazzy
Shane Douglas
Jushin Liger

The wrestlers above are my own picks on who is good in TNM7. You
probably would have chosen differently.

TIPS
+--+

*. Always start a Light-Heavyweight division with a Light-Heavyweight
Title. Make it that you only use wrestlers who are under 245lbs, you
cannot do this in the program, but IMAGINE it!!. This will prove
beneficial if you've got people like Rey Misterio Jr. or Chris Jericho
fighting for the belt. But it won't have the same appeal if you have
Gillberg and Scorpio fighting over it!!.

*. Switch Hardcore mode on, the matches are more exiting!!

*. If you want to start a feud. Have one of the wrestlers attack the
other one when he is in a middle of match. Use the Outside
Interference flag to achieve this. Do it a couple of times this way
and the opposite way. I assure you this will make sure that heat
between the wrestlers is there. This will mean you'll get a high
rated match when the two meet.

*. Don't use Ironman Matches, or Death Matches when you've got people
in the match like Paul Wight or Yokozuna. It doesn't work!?!?!?

*. Don't use the Road Warriors too often!?!?!?!

*. Don't starts a womens division all the matches come to -***

*. Make a tag team consisting of Stan Lane and Dennis Condrey. Don't
give them any finishing manouvere. Name them whoever you like. This
is a good team.

*. Have two tag team titles if you've got more than four tag-teams
in your fed. Make one a hardcore tag-team title where the matches
are no DQ, no CO. Keep the main one as your World Tag title. This
should bring more exciting to your tag division.

*. Easiest feud to implement, have a heel stable (e.g.
Corparation, (Make One Up) against a face stable (e.g. DeGeneration
X, (Make One Up). Have four people in each stable, this would mean
that each wrestler has a guarantee of four matches against the
other stables wrestlers. Four X Four = Sixteen, this would mean that
there are sixteen possible matches. Enough to create decent heat!!

*. Always have about twenty wrestlers in your fed. Don't go any lower
than that if you have four singles titles. I have made a chart:

20 Wrestlers: 3 Singles Titles (IC Belt, Euro Belt, World Belt)
              1 Tag Title (World Belts)

24 Wrestlers: 4 Singles Titles (IC Belt, Euro Belt, World Belt,
              Light Belt)
              1 Tag Title (World Belts)

28 Wrestlers: 5 Singles Titles (IC Belt, Euro Belt, World Belt,
              Light Belt, Hardcore Title)
2 Tag Title (World Belts, Hardcore Belts)

*. Use no CO, no DQ matches sparingly!!

*. Always have a King of the Ring type tournament in one of yours cards
then make the winner of the tournament face your champion at the next
card.

FIVE STAR MATCHES *
+---------------+
Here are some five star matches that happened in my NWA Federation:

Dan Severn v Chris Jericho - 16:40 - Severn wins by submission *****
The Rock v Ken Shamrock - 32:09 - Rock wins by pinfall *****
Jeff Jarrett v Chris Jericho - Jarrett wins by pinfall *****
Ken Shamrock v Dan Severn - Shamrock wins by pinfall *****
Dan Severn v Shane Douglas - 36:53 - Severn wins by submission *****
Al Snow v Rob Van Dam - 38:36 - Snow wins by pinfall *****
Rob Van Dam v Taka Michinoku - Taka wins by pinfall *****

There are tons more but the matches above are a small sample. My
theory on matches that become five stars are that there must be
two wrestlers that are over, have a good workrate, and they must
have excellent charisma. If the match you have implemented contains
all of these factors then you have a good match. In my experience,
Severn v Shamrock, Michinoku v Van Dam, Shamrock v Jarrett are all
capable of giving you five star matches and if the match lasts a long
time the chances are probably higher of getting a good match.

DUD MATCHES *
+---------+
Here are some truly terrible matches that are a disgrace to your
circuit if you use them, IMO :-)

Big Boss Man v Steve Williams - 05:49 - Boss Man wins by pinfall DUD
Ahmed Johnson v Goldberg - 09:54 - Johnson wins by pinfall DUD
Kevin Nash v Roddy Piper - 21:02 - Nash wins by pinfall DUD
Jeff Jarrett v Ultimate Warrior - 13:27 - Jarrett wins by pinfall DUD
Val Venis v The Godfather - 05:03 - Venis wins by DQ DUD
Jim Neidhart v Jesse James - 20:47 - Neidhart wins by DQ DUD
Vader v Goldberg - 13:27 - Vader wins by pinfall DUD

The general consensus is that two big wrestlers in a match e.g.
Vader & Goldberg make really poor matches. DUD matches normally
happen when theres a DQ involved or when a match is over too quick.

Nobody puts the Ultimate Warrior in their fed anyway!!

WORST WRESTLERS IN TNM7
+---------------------+
These are the worst wrestlers in TNM7. These are TNM fans picks, you've
probably got a list thats a hell of a lot different from mine.

Gillberg
Viscera
Len Denton
Yoji Anjoh
Hollywood Hogan
Goldberg
El Gigante
The Giant
Kane
Abdullah the Butcher

NOTE: Not all of the wrestlers mentioned above are included in the
TNM7 package. This means that they are exports from TNM sites.

Theres probably more, email me if you have any additions to this list.

TNM PLUGIN QUESTIONS
+------------------+

Q. What is a plugin?
A plugin is a small program which locks itself into TNM7 and peforms
a task. In TNM7 it can either be a match plugin or a circuit plugin.
A match plugin lets you have match that was not already in TNM7
Examples of match plugins include Brawl for All, Hell in the
Cell and many others. A circuit plugin could be a ratings editor, or
a match ratings search or something like that. Most TNM7 plugins can
be found at the TNM7 website at http://www.tnm7.com

Q. How do you install a plugin?
A popular question that is posted on the message boards frequently and
I'm going to answer it once and for all. Right first of all get your
plugin and unzip it into your NEWPLUGS directory. Unzip all of the
files into it, then start up TNM7, it then should recognize it then
thats you!!

Q. Whats the difference between a Circuit Plugin and a Match Plugin?
Well a match plugin lets you have a match that is not included with the
TNM7 package such as a Brawl for All, or a Scaffold Match. A match
plugin can be selected from the match screen. A circuit plugin lets
you search ratings or edit comments etc.

Q. Who programmed the match plugins available?
Well Mike Sweetser programmed Brawl for All, Scaffold, Ladder Plus, FCA
Cubed, World War III match plugins. Mike DiGiovanni programmed the
Hell in the Cell match plugin. Ryan Solberg programmed the Parking
Lot Death Match, Arm Wrestling Match, 3/4 Dance and Arena.

{NOTE: I've only mentioned the main plugins, I'm sure I've missed
some other plugins. Email me if you want your name added to the list
at barryskelly@yahoo.com}

Q. Whats is the FCA Cubed Match series?
This was a plugin by Mike Sweetser (Interviewed by the TNM Basement)
which let you make up your own matches. You assign weapons, design
locations, and perform actions with regards to the match your trying
to create. Examples of FCA Cubed matches include Scaffold, City
Center Brawl etc. The FCA Cubed series is regarded as one of the
best plugins coded.

Q. What is an Interview Integrater?
The Interview Integrater is a plugin which lets you make up interviews,
this is useful when your making up angles for your fed.

Q. What is this Tweak plugin?
This useful plugin lets you totally configure your circuit such as
change title names and see wrestlers heat value it is really good.
It costs $5. *

Q. What are plugins generally programmed in?
Quickbasic (not sure what version)

Q. I keep getting an error message everytime I run a plugin. What can
be done to eleviate this problem?
This seems to be a common problem. The first thing I would do is to
email the plugins author. Don't email Oliver about this. Your problem,
once you emailed the author, should be over.

TNM THEME QUESTIONS
+-----------------+

Q. How to you assign themes to a particular wrestler?
First of all run TNM7, then click on DATABASE, then click on TNM
CONTROLCENTER. It then opens the ControlCenter, click on WRESTLERS,
then select EDIT WRESTLER. Then select the wrestler you want to
assign a tune to, for the purpose of this I will select DAN SEVERN
but it can be anybody. Once you select DAN SEVERN it will then open
his relevant screen. Select SELECT THEME, it should open the Theme
directory which you should download themes into, select the file you
want then select O.K. Thats how to assign a theme to a wrestler.

TNM OFFICIAL SITE
+---------------+
Q. The login/password combination does not work in the Registered
Users are. What can I do to remedy this problem? *
If you've tried your login/password and your sure that you've got
it right and it's still not letting you in then email Oliver at
copp@tnm7.com with your problem and he will fix it.

Q. I have heard of a page that is dedicated to new exports on
the web on the TNM7.COM site? *
Yeah, it's on the page but it's not advertised. It's at
http://www.tnm7.com/uploads

Q. Can you point me to the page that is dedicated to trying to
solve TNM7 problems?
Yeah its simply at http://www.tnm7.com/error7faq.html *

TNM FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

include Arena Hire, Wrestler Contracts, option of whether you want
to run a backyard or a huge circuit. These are some of the rumoured
features that people expect to see.

[TNM Gold will not be released any time soon]

EASTER EGGS
+---------+

Q. What is an "easter egg"? *
An easter egg is a small piece of code that the programmer has coded
which does a particular task which it ain't supposed to do. Easter eggs
are advertised on the Registered Area of the TNM site

OTHER TNM QUESTIONS
+-----------------+

Q. What is "outside interference"? *
Outside interference just means interference from somebody who is not
in the match. This can be in the form of a stable, tag-team or a
single wrestler. One somebody interferes it can be in a range of forms
such as the interferer causing the person attacked to be counted out,
or the interferer throws the person who he wants to win a weapon
of some sort.

Q. Will TNM ever be made networkable? *
TNM, if it continues into the millenium, will probably be networkable
then. At the moment no versions of TNM can be run on a network.

Q. How do you create a HTML tree for your circuit? *
Well first of all open your circuit. Then press M to open another
option windows, click on HTML TREE, it will then ask you for a
title to put on all of the pages, it will then ask you if you want
a pictures on your documents select YES or NO;, after you have
selected everything it will then generater the HTML!!

Q. What are the PWWTNM Rules? *
These were rules which let you work your circuit under specific
stipulations. The stipulations works on a monthly cycle. I haven't
actually tried to use them but I think thats the way they work. The
PWWTNM rules were orginally written for the PWW TNM Site which was
run by a good friend of the TNM Basement, Graeme McGaw. The PWW site
no longer exists however you can find the rules on Jeff's TNMania
site which can be located at http://tnm.ontheweb.nu

Q. Will TNM7 work in all versions of Windows?
Yes it sure will. I know for a fact that it works with Windows 95. Text
is a bit small but it definately works. I can't say for sure that it
works in either 3.11 or 98 but it probably does. It also works
with Windows NT because I tried it when I should have been doing some
Multimedia work!! :-)

Q. What is the minimum configuration to be able to run TNM7?
TNM7 will probably work in any Microsoft enviroment, if you just
have DOS as your operating system you will not be able to Themes
or anything like that but TNM will still be fun and enjoyable.

Q. Will TNM7 run on an Apple Mac?
No, no versions are planned for that medium.

Q. Has TNM been release on any other format?
None to my knowledge!?!?!

Q. Can TNM be run on any other format?
Yeah, you can through an emulator. Emulators are
available for the Mac and the good old Amiga.
Supposedly TNM works using a MacEmulator. I've
not heard any reports on the Amiga version though.

Q. List some of the things that people said would happen
but never did in TNM Land?
Well you've got TNM7 Gold and TNM Media which was supposed
to be a resource of sound files and video files pertaining
for wrestlers in TNM.

If you've got any queries about then then please email me at
barryskelly@yahoo.com

READERS COMMENTS

Sting833@aol.com wrote this...
Goldberg actually can be carried to a decent match if you put him with
a guy who can carry him(e.g. RVD, Mankind). A few guys I find will
almost never give decent ratings. They are:

El Gigante
The Giant
Kane
Abdullah the Butcher

Your best list is pretty good. Maybe add Malenko, Benoit, and Super
Crazy, who all seem to produce high ratings on a regular basis.

NetNut746@aol.com (Mike Stanzione) wrote this...
Jyushin Liger is great. Shane Douglas puts on very good matches as
well
