Yet another game takes a
leap from the Super Nintendo to the Game Boy Advance. This time it's the
classic F-Zero franchise, becoming F - Zero : Maximum Velocity. The original
Super NES version of F-Zero was one of the first games for the SNES, and
very impressive. This version of F-Zero takes place 25 years after the
story line of the SNES version.
Gameplay wise, you race lightning fast machines across several circuits against other racers. The tracks can contain hazards such as spikes, lava, and other things. But it also contains speed boosts, a repair area, and other things to help you on your quest for 1st place. Each machine has it's own unique performance. Some have a faster boost, other have weaker boosts but last longer. And there are plenty of ships to earn. Graphicly, the GBA version looks very similar to the SNES version, as you can see to the right. The way tracks appear is also diffrent. New effects have been added to make the illusion of high speeds even greater. And some things have been removed so you wouldn't become destracted. While playing a fast paced game like this on a smaller screen can be distracting, you most likely will ajust very quick. Some courses are dark and can be hard to see, but most are bright enough to see ok. The one new feature that is really neat is the 4 player multi player mode. Up to four people can race together using the link cable, and only one game if you wish. It uses the download feature where you only need a single game cartridge to play. Just give the GBA about 20 seconds to Download the needed information to play that track and your off! But there is only one ship and few courses to choose from, so it's better if everyone has there own game. F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is one racing game that you wouldn't regret taking a look at, but it doesn't last for to long. F-Zero : Maximum Velocity is currently available.
