Pylons and Fireballs played over a video call on WhatsApp where we rolled actual dice. Some real barnburners where no lead was safe. Series 2, Game 3 Pylons 400 000 001 - 5 9 0 Fireballs 102 011 04x - 9 13 0 w - Glasnow l - Moore HR - Taylor (1st inning off Glasnow, 2 on, 1 out), Chapman (9th inning off Alcantara, 0 on, 1 out); Greene (1st inning off Verlander, 0 on, 0 out); Robert (3rd inning off Verlander, 1 on, 2 out); Soto (5th inning off Verlander, 0 on, 0 out); McMahon (6th inning off Moore, 0 on, 0 out) - Pylons put up 4 in the first but bats fall silent after that. Fireballs mash their way to a win. - After McMahon's leadoff HR off Moore in the bottom of the 6th puts them ahead, the Fireballs ice it with 4 consecutive hits off Duran to start the 8th - single, single, double, triple. Swanson, who hit the triple scores on a 6-3 ground out by Greene. - Pylons leave 12 runners on base. Series 2, Game 4 Pylons 000 000 253 - 10 13 2 Fireballs 000 521 001 - 9 12 0 w - Neris l - Swanson s - Duran HR - Taylor (7th inning off Gilbert, 0 on, 2 out); Pham (8th inning off Holton, 1 on 0 out); Bogaerts (9th inning off Swanson, 0 on, 0 out); Alonso (5th inning off Ottavino, 1 on, 0 out); Torkelson (9th inning off Duran, 0 on, 2 out) - Fireballs jump all over Keller in the 4th 5 runs on 5 hits. After Alonso's 2-run HR in the 5th and Robert's SF in the 6th, the Fireballs are up 8-0 heading into the top of the 7th. - After having just 2 hits through the first 6 innings, things ramp up kinda quick. Taylor leads off the 7th with a solo HR. After a walk to Chapman, Kelenic triples to put two on the board for the Pylons. They then put up 5 in the 8th on a walk followed by 5 consecutive hits - HR, single, double, double, single. Score now 8-7 in favor of the Fireballs. Bogaerts leads off the top of the 9th with a solo HR. 3 singles and a walk later, the Pylons now lead 10-8 entering the bottom of the 9th. Neris strikes out Robert to start the inning. Duran relieves and gets Alonso to fly out to RF. PH Torkleson hits a solo HR keeping Leesburg's hopes alive. McMahon follows with a single but Duran Ks Realmuto to lock down the save and a thrilling come from behind win for the Pylons. Series 3, Game 1 Pylons 200 100 003 - 6 9 0 Fireballs 000 103 100 - 5 11 1 w - Ottavino l - Holton s - Neris HR - Alvarez (1st inning off Gilbert, 1 on, 2 out); Taylor (4th inning off Gilbert, 0 on, 0 out); Alonso (7th inning off Moore, 0 on, 0 out) - Alvarez's 2-run HR in the 1st starts the scoring for the Pylons. Although, the team scoring first hasn't fared well thus far. - Taylor's solo HR in the top of the 4th puts the Pylons up 3-0. - In the bottom of the 4th when Happ gets a bases loaded single driving in Schaunel. However, McMahon is thrown out trying to score from second on the play and the Fireballs come away with a single run. - A 2-run double from Soto followed by a Lewis RBI single give Leesburg the lead 4-3. They would add an insurance run on Alonso's solo HR in the bottom of the 7th. - In the top of the 9th, Ruiz draws a 1-out walk. Pham reaches on a E8 moving Ruiz to second. PH Jung strikes out. With two out, Drury hits a triple scoring Pham and PR Stott. With the score knotted at 5, Drury scores the game winning run on a WP by Holton. Neris retires the side in order in the bottom of the 9th to get the save. - In addition to McMahon getting throw out at the plate in the 4th, the Fireballs lose another run in the 7th when, with two out, Senzel is called out for missing 3rd while trying to score on Swanson's single. Series 3, Game 2 Pylons 200 001 211 4 - 11 16 0 Fireballs 001 004 011 0 - 7 8 0 w - Neris l - Swanson HR - Alvarez 2 (1st inning off Glasnow, 1 on, 2 out; 9th inning off Diaz, 0 on, 2 out); Drury (7th inning off Holton, 1 on, 2 out); Taylor (8th inning off Diaz, 0 on, 0 out); Bogaerts 10th inning off Swanson, 1 on, 1 out); Pham (10th inning off Swanson, 0 on, 2 out); Robert (6th inning off​‌ Verlander, 2 on, 0 out); Alonso (6th inning off Verlander, 0 on, 0 out); McMahon (8th inning off Duran, 0 on, 2 out) - Another back-and-forth affair. Neither team seemed interested in holding a lead. - Alvarez starts the scoring with another 1st inning HR. - With the Pylons up 3-1 the Fireballs score 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th before an out is recorded. Soto and Lewis lead off with back-to-back singles and Robert follows with a 3-run HR. Alonso then goes back-to-back with a solo HR following Robert. Leesburg then has 1st and 2nd with 1 out but, the Pylons wriggle out of that jam. - Pylons tie the game at 5 with a 2-run HR by Drury and take the lead back with a lead- off solo HR by Taylor in the top of the 8th. - Fireballs quickly tie the game again with a 2-out solo HR by McMahon. - Pylons go ahead again in the 9th on Alvarez's second HR of the game. - Not to be outdone, the Fireballs scratch a run across in the 9th on 2 walks, 2 SBs, and a SF. On to extra innings. - Pylons put 4 on the board in the top of the 10th on a double and 2 HRs. - Fireballs go in order in the bottom of the 10th as the Pylons take another thriller. Series 3, Game 3 Fireballs 100 020 000 1 - 4 8 0 Pylons 000 010 002 0 - 3 5 0 w - Webb l - Ottavino s - Holton HR - Greene (1st inning off Musgrove, 0 on, 0 out); Taylor (5th inning off Webb, 0 on, 0 out); Drury (9th inning off Webb, 1 on, 1 out) - Both offenses throttle back a bit in this one. Greene hits his second lead-off home run of the 9th to start the scoring for the Fireballs. They add two more in the top of the 5th with 3 singles and 2 SBs. Pylons get one back on Taylor's solo HR in the bottom of the frame. - Having been dealing up until this point, Webb gives up a game tying 2-run HR to Drury in the bottom of the 9th. The Fireballs score the go ahead run in the top of the 10th on Alonso's RBI single and Holton retires the Pylons in order in the bottom of the inning for the save. Series 3, Game 4 Fireballs 000 000 200 - 2 4 2 Pylons 000 000 010 - 1 5 0 w - Peralta l - Gallen s - Holton HR - McMahon (7th inning off Gallen, 1 out, 2 out); Drury (8th inning off Peralta, 0 on, 2 out) - With both offenses gassed at this point, we've got a good pitchers' duel going into the top of the 7th. Gallen's outing in spoiled when McMahon hits a 2-out 2-run HR to give the Fireballs the lead and prevent Gallen's advancement. - The Pylons try to get something going in the 7th after Kelenic leads off the inning with a single. He is quickly erased when he's caught stealing on the hit and run (65- 35). Drury does ruin the shutout with a solo HR in the bottom of the 8th but, the Pylons can't do much else from there. - Pylons strand 9 runners. Key moments - Taylor hits into a 4-6-3 double play with 1 out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. Also in the 5th, after Pham steals 2nd and 3rd, Lowe Ks and Drury grounds out 6-3. Series: - This was back and forth and a really fund series to play. Especially since we were rolling our own dice. - Both teams scored 36 runs and had 56 hits. - The Pylons out homered the Fireballs 16-12 while the Fireballs had the edge in walks (25-17) and stolen bases (12-5).
