In his next at bat, he was hit by a pitch from Kluber. For the Blizzard, the only negative in this game was the continued drain on their bullpen. Power continues to come from unexpected sources as Santana and Merrifield stake the Bos to an early lead, but Zunino’s 4th and 5th homers fuel a Blizzard comeback. In the bottom of the 9th, Realmutto’s sacrifice fly ties the game. And so it would remain until the 18th by which time both bullpens were exhausted The Blizzard had not only exhausted their bullpe,, but had used all of their bench players and had forfeited their designated hitter. In the top of the 18th, Turner led off with a walk, stole 2nd and scored on a throwing on Beintendi’s sacrifice bunt. In the bottom of the inning, Reed retired the first two batters and then proceeded to intentionally walk the next 3 batters to reach the pitcher’s spot in the order. Having no one left on the bench, the Blizzard were forced to bat their pitcher resulting in an automatic strikeout ending the game. The Bohs finally contained Zunino, but twice hit him with a pitch and walked him once. Boh manager Joe Morgan denied he ordered either beanball, but remarked, “pain is part of the game.” The key moment in the game came in the 7th. Faced with a nascent Boh rally, the Blizzard again turned to their pen to close out the game. They did so, but paid the price in the next game. Game 7 Bliz 001-001-001-0 3-5-0 Bohs 000-000-300-1 4-8-1 WP Bradley LP Hader HR Bliz Bour (3rd, 0 on) 2, Conforto (6th, 0 on) 2 Bohs Donaldson (7th, 0 on) 2 Batteries Strasburg, Madson (7th), Neshek (7th), Hader (8th) - Zunino Kluber, (Bradley 9) - Pina, Suzuki (9th) With little bullpen left, the Blizzard needed a strong start from their ace Strasburg and they got it. Homers by Bour and Conforto staked the Blizzard to a 2 run lead while Strasburg held the Bohs scoreless. A lead off homer by Donaldson led the Blizzard to use the last right handlers in their pen but Turner’s 2 run double climaxed the 3 run inning. With Kluber now on cruise control and the Blizzard have only the left handed Hader to pitch, the game seemed over. In the top of the 9th, Kluber retired the first 2 batters and then was relieved by closer Bradley who yielded a walk to Ozuna and the a run scoring double to Arenado. Hader stymied the Bohs in the bottom of the inning so we went to extra frames. In top of the 10th, Realmutto walked to lead of the inning. Then, although Zunino had been the power hitting and on base star of the series, the Blizzard asked him to bunt. His weak pop up crippled the Blizzards’ efforts to break through. In the bottom of the inning Hader retired the first two hitters, but then Brantley singled and promptly stole second. Taylor’s two out double brought home the winning run ending the series.
