Hoffman Pro BMX
A wise man once said, “The greatest risk you can
take in life is not taking one at all.” However, he forgot to mention the
second greatest risk…Trying to pull off a triple back flip over an 80-foot gap
on a bike. Not only is there a chance of public humiliation, but also a
relatively high chance of early death, partial dismemberment, full paralysis,
and even bike castration (ouch!). Along the lines of both psychological and
physical pain, there’s the highest probability of being mobbed by overwhelmed
fans that just saw you land one of the greatest bike stunts in the history of
BMX stunt cycling. But until that time when you find an 80-foot gap to clear
along with learning how to do a back flip on a bike, you can get your kicks in
with Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX Stunt sold for the Playstation game console. Almost
exactly like Tony Hawk’s pro skater except you’re on a bicycle, this game is
still a no holds barred, do anything the hell you want game. Each time the game
loads I know I’m bound to pull off something I haven’t even imagined doing.
With different levels each intricately designed to keep you on your toes, the
maps are developed for different types of riding. For those who like to grind
rails and do stalls, there’s an assault of walls, rails, pipes, and even roof
tops you can satiate your style of stunt making. But what good is a stunt game
without big air? With the right amount of speed, you can hit a jump and fly higher
than a cat that’s just had the life scared out of him. As you develop a better
feel for the game the possibilities for big air grow enormously large. Once I
figured out the certain limitations of the bikers’ capabilities to do certain
tricks at different points on the map, I absolutely fell in love with the game.
The replay value of Pro BMX depends on whether or not you like to try out new
stunts each time the game loads. However, if you are the kind of person that
has a unique way of trying to do stunts, Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX puts the designs
in your own hands with a unique level-editing feature. Whether it be grinds out
the Wahoo, or jumps galore, or adding a hint of danger to your course by trying
to launch over an insane gap where if you don’t have enough air, well let me
just say this…PIT OF DEATH. That’s right boys and girls what adds the most
excitement to a stunt game? DEATH!!!! You can cringe as you see your favorite
Pro BMX stunt rider dive head first into gaping maw of flesh tearing spikes. If
there is anything wrong I could find with the game it’s that some of the course
objectives make it quite difficult to unlock better bikes and all. Though it
can be quite difficult at times to control the rate of your spin which forces
you to crash and burn or settle for a lesser value spin, it’s nothing very much
to disturb the game play or excitement of the game. As for buying the Mat
Hoffman, I’d say borrow it from a video store or from a friend to test out the
kinks, and if you still love to play the game after trying it out for a while,
then nothing should stop you from getting to that video game store and handing
over your hard earned money for Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX. -Rob |
