The reason that we called the game an Role-Playing Strategy game in the first place was to help prepare people for a much different RTS game then we have done with the previous Craft games. Once the game is released, it will be up to the public to decide what kind of game it is.
How will the Warcraft Adventures storyline tie into Warcraft III?
One of the main characters in the Warcraft III storyline will be Thrall, the Orc Chieftan from the Warcraft Adventures story. The beginning of the Warcraft III storyline takes place a few years after the events that took place in the now-defunct adventure game.
How will towns operate in Warcraft III?
Players can build a town similar to StarCraft and Warcraft. War3 has less emphasis on town building though, so that most races will build far less buildings then you would see in a game of StarCraft.
Is there a tech-tree in Warcraft III?
Players will be able to upgrade the structures in their town to produce more advanced units. There may also be special research items that will enable the recruitment of new troop types or the learning of new skills or spells.
Will there be indoor levels or areas such as were in StarCraft and Warcraft: Orcs and Humans?
There will be indoor levels.
Will there be fog of war?

Will Warcraft III include game recording?

Will you have weather effects in the game such as rain and snow? Will they have any affect on the units, how they move, how they fight or will it just be for atmosphere with no real effect?
We will have weather effects in the game, and we are planning on having the weather effect the game in various ways.
How will the terrain affect combat? Will it be built into the engine, or is there a + modifier (like 50%) from being on higher ground?
Units on high ground will have a combat advantage over units lower than them.
What are the supported screen resolutions? Since it's a 3D rendered environment, will the resolution go beyond 1024 x 768?
Yes, we will be supporting multiple screen resolutions. We will be supporting most resolutions that are in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
What file formats will be used for Warcraft III?
We're using non-proprietary file formats for everything in the game, because we want to make it very easy for people to customize the game and do total conversions. Our geometry, animations, and unit stats are stored as text files. Sound is in wave files. Textures can be pcx, tga, bmp, etc. Script files ship in source code format.
Will you have control over the camera such as zooming or rotating the camera or will it be as is?
There will be several spells and wilderness buildings that will change the default camera view to show different areas of the game map.
Will you allow scrolling of the screen?
Yes, players can freely scroll around the game map similar to Starcraft.
How will resource gathering work?
The resource model is currently under heavy design. Gold will be your primary resource that you can collect and then in turn use to build structures and to recruit units. It would be premature to release more details at this time.
Will you use gold to buy items or to acquire buildings and units?
Players will use gold to recruit units and heroes, and to buy upgrades and special items.
How many races will Warcraft III offer?
Warcraft III will have five races. Like Warcraft II, each 'race' is actually an alliance of other races. For example, the Human race is composed of Human, Elf, and Dwarf units. Currently, we have announced four of the races: Orcs, Humans, Demons, and Undead. Each race will be inherently different and require different strategies to master.
When will the next race be announced?
Undecided at this time, but probably sometime after E3.
Will all of the races have equal importance?
Yes. While each race is equally important and capable of winning the game like in StarCraft, they now all focus on different capabilities, and require much different strategies to win. You will of course be able to play each of the races in single player as well as multiplayer.
Can different races ally?
We are designing Warcraft III multiplayer with team play in mind. Races are being designed to complement each other in battle, so that a team of two different races will have unique abilities that the two individual races would not have on their own.
When will you be revealing more information about the Burning Legion?
The Legion is still being designed and at some point in the future we will release more detailed information about their units and abilities.
Can you explain the idea of Heroes and how they will work?
Hero units are very special units. They have the ability to advance in levels, collect items in a small inventory and confer special benefits to the units near them.
How will hero units differ from one another?
Each hero will have different attributes from one another including unique abilities and spells. Also, you can evolve your heroes over time during the game.
What does a hero receive when he gains a level?
When a hero levels, he will become more powerful through hit points and attack strength. The player will also be able to choose a new special ability for the hero.
How many heroes can you have at once?
Heroes will behave like normal units, in that each hero has a command point cost. Heroes cost more command than normal units, so a player will have to balance how many heroes to use in his/her army.
How does a player lose the game if heroes resurrect?
When heroes die, they may be purchased again (healed for a price) at your town. If a player loses all of his/her buildings then they lose the game.
Are there any female heroes?
There will be several female heroes in the game. For example, on the human side, the Ranger is female.
How many units can you have at once?
The total amount is undecided at this time and may vary depending on race. Warcraft 3 will have an emphasis on fewer more powerful units than our previous RTS games.
Will units from previous Warcraft's make appearances in Warcraft III?
Yes, you'll see both units and heroes from the previous Warcraft games. For example, Garona, a character from Warcraft I will be in the storyline.
Can regular units be upgraded?
Like StarCraft, you will be able to research unit upgrades, including spells, that apply globally to all units of a certain type.
Will there be critters in the game such as sheep or boars?
Most maps will be littered with all sorts of critters and monsters. Some will be indifferent to the player while others may be aggressive.
Will there be any water units?
There will be some limited water units.
Will there be Dragons in Warcraft III?
Yes, but they will be different than the dragons you saw in WarCraft II.
Can any unit equip additional weapons, armor, items etc or is this for heroes only?
Units will be able to upgrade their weapons and armor, but only heroes can obtain items and hold them in an inventory.
