How to Paint your Minatures

Things You're Going to Need

1. Imagine what your models are going to look like. This will determine the undercoat color.
2. Next thing you need to do is undercoat your models. Usually I use a black spray to do this. Most models look best with a black undercoat. Some times I will use a white under coat, if the model is going to bright or mostly one light color (yellow, for example).
3. Begin to paint your model. This stage is really up to you. Usually it is a rule of thumb to paint the largest areas first. So, this means if I was painting a rat, I would do the fur first.
4. Details. Finish the smaller areas of the model (eyes, hands, gund, cabelling, faces).
5. Base the model. This can be done using sand or flock. Simply paint the models base an appropriate color (green, brown, grey, ect.) Then dip your brush in white glue. Paint the top of the models base with a generous amont of the glue. Dip the models whole base into the flock and let it dry. Your model is done!

Advanced Techniques

Drybrushing-This technique is used to highlight a model. If you are painting a model with a lot of ridged areas (fur is a great example), this technique can save tons of time. All you need to do is load up some paint on your brush, then wipe it all off. Make sure the color you are drybrushing with is lighter than the color you are drybrushing over. This will leave residue on the bristles. Rub the brush back and forth across the model. The color will come off on the raised areas only. Voilla, your model is highlighted instantly!

Inks- These are great for shading a model. Again, these are great timesaving devices. Paint the area that you want shaded in a solid color (faces are a great example). Select an ink that is darker than the color to be shaded. Add water to the ink, and then paint it all over the area to be shaded. Be careful to make sure no bubbles get in the ink. Let the ink settle on the area. It will run into all the crevices and dips of the model. Your model is now shaded.

*Note an ink takes a long time to dry. It is best to leave it overnight to dry.
