On battle.net you can play Diablo with others. (4 is the max. number of players in one game.)
One major drawback of battle.net is that it’s the home of many massive cheaters. Some of these cheaters (and some non-cheaters) kill other people for fun. That’s why they are called player killers (PKs.) When another player kills you, you’ll only lose some gold and one of your ears. When a monster kills you however, you’ll drop all the equipment you were wearing, and some gold. Watch out you don’t get killed by a monster in a public game, because you’ll drop your equipment, which can be stolen by other players.
Because most of these pk’s are cheaters (not all of them!) they can be really hard to beat. Some are even invincible, so you’d better avoid them. “How?” you might wonder. Well there are some ways. One of them is to play with friends only in a private game (a game with password) or you could join a legit-only guild. (Legit players are players who don’t cheat and don’t use duped items.)
If you decide to join a public game (in which cheaters could be present) there still are ways to avoid them. The link to "Freshman Diablo" will bring you to an excellent page where you can find all you need to know about identifying cheaters and PKs.
If you’re thinking about using games yourself; DON‘T!!! Cheats ruin the game for you. There’s no fun in playing with cheated characters/items. You’ll get bored really fast, and you’ll probably quit playing Diablo quickly after. That would be too bad, because it’s a darn nice game. Stay legit, and have fun with Diablo.
