On 05-05-2001 Taibo and I played an ironman game. Taibo played with a Rogue, called Taiche, and I played with a warrior, called Lord_Gabriel.
The first thing we did was buy health potions with our 100 gold pieces. I gave Taiche one of mine, and we went to church. When we came there I had a déjà vu; there was this wounded man I saw before. Very strange! But we descended to level 1.
After discussing a few strategies, we started fighting the monsters and cleared level 1 without much trouble. (One of the strategies was that I would open doors, and stand next to it, Taiche would stand straight across the door. This way we could both hit the monster
in the doorway, without hitting each other.)
Down to level 2. We decided to leave the butcher’s door closed,
till we finished all enemies. Because we did not have enough
pots, we encountered some difficulties. There were several
skeleton archers in a room, and we ran out of pots. Taiche gave
me a spare bow, and we started shootin’ at them bastards. We
didn’t hit enough, and our health ball started drying out; just a
small layer of red fluid was left.
"Retreat (abbreviated as R)" I shouted, and we ran like
the wind to a safe spot.
This was tough! But I had an idea; we would leave those annoying
archers alone, till we had more pots. The archers were in the
North, and we went to the South.
We were almost dead, and there was a pack of monsters nearby.
"Why don’t we die together?!" said Taiche.
"Ah hell, why not?" I thought, and we went for it. We
rushed in and discovered that there were melee monsters and
ranged attackers. Out of habit I retreated to safe ground to kill
the melee monsters there. But Taiche remained. "Damn!" I
thought, and rushed back in. First I helped Taiche by killing
some monsters in front of her, and then I went after some
archers, while she killed some other monsters.
Almost out of red fluid! "This is the end!" I thought. I
managed to kill one archer, while some melee monsters ran towards
me, and some other archers were still shooting at me. I killed
another one, and…… leveled up! My whole ball was filled again!
"Now ye’all die bastards!" I thought.
We managed to kill all the monsters and didn’t die. We went
further, and whacked the pack of archers we met before. A bit
further in the labyrinth we found a pack of zombies with a unique
one. We still didn’t have pots, or perhaps one or so, I can’t
remember. They came very close, and we were both wounded from the
fights before. "Retreat!" I shouted. While retreating, I
got the bow again, and helped shooting. When they came too close
again, we retreated again. After a while we whacked all of them.
We cleared the rest of level 2, except for the butcher’s room; he
was still there.
We found this room with gratings and a door. "Here we can
kill the butcher!" I said. Taiche would wait while I went to
get the butcher. I opened his door, and lured him to the room
with gratings. He was right behind me, and I felt him breathing
down my neck. "Why is that pig so fast?!", I thought. I
ran as fast as I could, but the distance between him and I didn’t
increase much. To get to that room, I had to go through a
particular entrance, with two blocks of gratings beside it. I
went through, and went North again (walking next to the
gratings.) The distance between the butcher and me had already
become a bit bigger. He also went north, but still was on the
other side of the gratings. I stopped. And so did he. He would
only have to take a few steps to the South, go through the
entrance, and go a few steps North to get next to me. He didn’t,
and thus I started shooting. I hit the wall, and took one step
aside. Now he started moving a few steps to the North, then a few
to the South. I feared he would go through the entrance, but he
did not. So I started shooting. Missing a lot, but I could hit
him! I warned Taiche that he got stuck, and told her where I was
(I was already very nearby the room.) She came, but accidentally
moved a bit too much South. Now the butcher went a bit more
South, and found the entrance. "Retreat!" I shouted. We
ran to the room with the gratings, but the butcher was right
behind us. We reached the room, but couldn’t close the door in
time. Without pots we were doomed! Doomed I tell ya! Anyway,
because I entered the room as first, I could quickly equip my
weapon and shield. In the rush I grabbed my mace instead of my
sword. Like I said, we couldn’t close the door in time, and the
fight started. The butcher swung his cleaver as fast as a poison
spitter spits his balls; way too fast!
And because I couldn’t heal myself I died. My first death ever
with a warrior. (This was my 4th warrior BTW.) I didn’t restart
in town yet, I looked how the butcher looked at Taiche with an
evil grin on his demonic face, and then walked towards her… she
was trapped! Because she couldn’t heal herself either, she was
dead quickly after. We met in town again.
As far as I know the ironman game was over, because we died, but we
went back. I said to Taiche: "Wait in the butchers room, and
close the door. I’ll lure the butcher away, and kill him on the
stairs down to level 3." He agreed, and I went back to that
fiend.
"Wraah! Fresh meat!" He shouted again, and came after me.
Around the corner there was that entrance with the two blocks of
gratings. I couldn’t resist, and used it again. It worked, but
the butcher moved to the North and South again. (Again on the
other side, but now he was were I was before, and visa versa.)
I missed a lot because of that hyper active pig. I had to repair
my bow once, and began shooting again. It did take so long! He
was just like that bunny from the commercials; he just kept going
and going.
Taiche got tired of waiting, did not like the smell of death in
that horrible room, got wet feet from all the blood, and wanted
to sit because her feet were getting tired from standing around
waiting to help. I told her one of them bodies would make a great
chair, LoL. Later she found this nice head she could sit on,
waiting till I was ready. Taiche swears that she saw the head
wink at her………………! LoL
This job took more patience than I had; I just missed way too
often. So I decided to run to the stairs. He wouldn’t move there.
I ran, and he followed. The distance between him and I was little
again. I reached the stairs (near the butcher’s room) and walked
around it. He was just two steps or so behind me, and I couldn’t
get him on the right side. I ran away again, and found another
grated room very nearby. But the butcher stopped behind a wall.
"Sigh." I told Taiche not to get out of the butcher’s
room, cause the butcher was right there. I don’t know exactly
what we did then, but we ended up in the room, where we were
killed before. And got killed again, cause we couldn’t close the
door in time. We met in town again.
This time Taiche would lure him away, and I would go to that
place we were killed and throw a town portal. She lured him away,
but lost the butcher. I went North (where that room was) and
found the butcher. "Oops." I ran west and the butcher was
right behind me. He suddenly stopped and ran South! (Where Taiche
was). "Watch out!" I screamed. But Taiche didn’t see the
butcher. "That was vague!" (Maybe he remembered he was cooking something in his room and forgot to turn the heat off ;-) I could go to that room
again. I did, and threw a town portal. I grabbed my stuff, and
repaired everything up there. I’m not sure if Taiche met the
butcher again, but she went up to town, and took my town portal.
She grabbed her stuff, and we decided to go to level 3. (I know,
forbidden when playing an ironman game. But because we had
already died, it wouldn’t matter anymore.)
We cleared everything, but suddenly a light spot became visible.
LEO!
"R" (=retreat) I shouted a dozen times or so, as fast as
I could. We ran, with Leo and some skeletons on our tail. All of
a sudden Taiche stopped. I thought she was typing a message,
which would be deadly at that moment. But she was very smart, and
threw a town portal! Then she ran again. We went to the stairs,
and went back up to town, and took the town portal. Leaving Leo
behind on the stairs up to level 2.
We cleared everything else on level 3, and decided to go for
Leo’s ass. I would lure him away, and go stand two steps behind
the door. Taiche stood against the wall, and thus we could both
hit Leo. I only had 1 scroll and 1 pot. Ah well. I hit him, while
Taiche fired some holy bolts. After that some arrows followed.
But Leo was no pansy! He was a very tough opponent, and killed
me. Then he went to Taiche, and killed her as well. We met in
town and called it a day. (Or night, as it was already after
midnight up here in Holland.) It was fun, but very tough because
we didn’t have enough healing pots. With some more pots we might
have been able to kill the butcher, and perhaps even Leo. Ah
well, live and learn.
