ANCIENT BATTLEGROUNDS

Primary Goals:

Items of Special Interest:

1 - By using Marliyns Charm on her son, you will gain access to Fire Magic

2 - Ed Edmunds has some special and unique items to sell you that are rather expensive. In fact, he is THE most expensive seller in the game. Right now, you do not have enough to get the really good items and the basic items can be found and purchased elsewhere for much less. He is first found in the SE corner of the area and he is blocking access to a special weapon. After you use Marilyns charm, you can come back to him. He will have moved to the North wall of the same area. You can talk to him and he will break the seal on Queen Noel's Tomb back in Quist. You can also now access the Flame Long Sword. This weapon is good against the Reapers and most of the opponents left in this region.

3 - Once Ed releases the Seal on the Queens tomb, you can go back to Quist and open the 2 chests there. However, I recommend waiting until after the NEXT region, the Garrison Barracks, before you go back. There are at least 2 items (A key and a Sword) you can get there that will also be usable in Quist to gain another item. This will also prevent a lot of going back and forth for single items only.

Ancient Battlegrounds Walkthrough

I will start abbreviating the details of what to do and how so as to allow the player to search and explore on their own

To enter this area AND keep your Silviera's Keys, do the following at the Stone Door. Use the Silviera Key on the Lock to the right of the door, step up to it and open it. Cross the threshold and go forward until you hear the door closing. Come back to the door and use the second key in the lock to the right. Open the door again, cross over and wait for the door to close. Go and take the Silviera's Key from the lock. Because you put Key #2 in the other lock, you can still open the door. Open it, close the door, and then take the second key from the lock. The door will now be locked and you will still retain both keys. You will need them in the next region after this one.

Now, move to the North West and go to the save point. Save. Now follow the path to the East and North, stopping Marilyn Millers hut to talk with her and get her charm. Now go visit Ed Edmund and learn a few more things about Verdite.

After you are finished there, head West, taking out opponents and collecting items. When you get to the first Reaper (The Tree Creature) you can either kill it now or later. From here, I recommend heading Southwest and work to obtain Fire Magic. Be sure to collect the Morning Star. When you encounter more than one Gravepot (The Yellow Daffodil-like creatures), watch and listen for the other one to be firing a cloud of poisonous spores at you. Be ready to strafe out of the way. They will take about 5-7 hits to kill. Collect BOTH Silviera's Keys to bring your collection up to 4, but you will have to use 2 of them to get Fire Magic.

Once you get to the far SW corner, equip the Leather Shield, use a Silviera's key, and be sure to cast LIGHT before entering. The area ahead is in darkness. You can combat the enemies or just run over to the East wall where the corpse of Marilyn's Son hangs. Use the Charm on him to break the curse that holds the door locked, open the door and enter the circle of light.

You meet Garnabus, Archmage of Fire, and he will instill the power of Fire in you. You gain the Fireball spell too and 20 points of fire magic.

Head back out of this area, picking back up both of the Silviera's Keys you used and head back to Ed Edmunds area. Collect the Flame Long Sword. Save if you wish. Go back to the NW area where the reaper was and head a little farther NW to encounter another one outside another Silviera Key door. Use a Key. Open it and follow the long path around.

SOME POINTERS: The pairs of Reapers can be tough because of their longer reach and close proximity to each other. Try to concentrate on one and carefully pick the moment you move it to attack. If you are low level still (less than level 6) be VERY careful. Even if you only have 2-3 levels more than that it can still be easy to die. Use magic sparingly, since you are still low power in it. Once you kill off one, the other becomes much easier to move around.

STOOL Pointers: I did not mention this on the Quist page, but there is a timing factor that works on Stools. If you watch them, they move in a manner that resembles breathing. 'Breathing In' means they move in an 'upward' manner, 'Breathing Out' means the move in a 'downward' manner. If you time it right, then moving towards them when they START breathing out (downward) will give you a higher chance of hitting them before they attack with their spores. When you hit, it causes them to 'pause' or act stunned for a half second, enough time for you to back up and get out of range of their spore attack.

The 2 Stools in the NE corner can be dealt with as follows: Move to the archway that you see them through and angle yourself towards the far NE corner. RUN to it and stay there. You will miss their spore attacks AND be out of range of any others. Now you can attack the closest one, then kill the second one.

Once done in this area, use a Silvieras Key to exit. Head down into the far SE corner and fill the Crystal Flask(s) with water at the fountain by using it. You now have a healing potion! There are two types of fountains in Verdite - Blue and Gold. The Blue heals HP's, the Gold heals both HP's and MP's. They also act as teleport receptacles for traveling from region to region. Heal up, and Save.

Head back around towards the West and you will find another Silvieras door. Use a Silviera Key here, but DO NOT go through it yet. The key will allow the door to be opened from the other side. NOW, backtrack Northeast to the door you came through after dealing with all those Reapers and Stools. Open the door, collect the Silvieras Key, and head North, then West and back to the other door. Open it, take the Key, and head back all the way past the path to Marilyns Hut (you might stop in and let her know how her son is, in case you forgot to do that already) and to the other side of the door you left the Silvieras Key in. Open it, cross over, take the key, and now you should have all 4 in your possession. Head South and destroy Skeletons and Races, collect arrows, a Long Sword, and the Breastplate.

Save at the save point by the fountain, then head to the middle of the East wall and head towards the Garrison Barracks.
