The
Basics
Let's start from
the beginning..... What is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2? THPS2
is the most famous skateboarding game of all time. It features 13 skaters,
and 7 skateparks. It includes hundreds of moves, from simple Kick flips
to massive Rocket Airs. In the game you start out with small stats and
a very weak board. But as you go to each course and complete the tasks
given to you before you start, you gain cash. You then use this cash to
buy better stats, boards, and tricks to better improve your game.
Tricks:
Tricks are the heart
and soul of THPS2. There are hundreds of tricks to perform from the ones
you always have with each skater to the ones available for purchase. In
THPS2, once you land your tricks are rated on how well you pulled it off.
You could receive 'sloppy', because you may have had a bad landing or didn't
do the complete trick. You can also get a 'Perfect', meaning you pulled
off every angle and detail of the trick correctly. But remember that you
can't just do the same trick over and over and keep getting good points.
Every time you perform a trick successfully it takes off about 20% of the
points value the next time you do the trick. So you will have to throw
some variety into your runs or your doomed. You also get your total amount
of points doubled, tripled, ect... depending on how many times you spin
around or how many tricks you perform on each "Link" (More on Linking in
the next section).
Spining:
Many tricks in the
game allow for spinning. Each time you spin around the total points you
earn for that 'Link' are multiplied. Here is a chart demonstrating how
it breaks down:
