Move 434:  Fighting the Hook Things

Echo stabbed the creature she was facing with her dagger, and Aloysius followed that up with another volley of missiles. The creature dropped to the ground. Dalgaer finished off the monster he was fighting, but he took another wound before doing so. Azrun missed with his staff, but he successfully blocked all attacks coming his way. Blacky moved to help Kanon; he and the priests both scored hits against the monster on him.  After feeling the bite of Blacky's axe, it seemed to decided that the big fighter was more of a threat. It swung at him, but only caught him with a claw. Jana got hooked and bitten again before dropping the creature attacking her.

Noises approached from the tunnel through which the group had entered this cavern.

Kanon looked back over his shoulder briefly and stepped back slightly from the creatures menacing hooks. He put his shield away and closed his left hand tightly mumbling two words under his breath and then laying his hand on Blacky's shoulder.

Jana assessed he situation and moved to attack the creature on Azrun.

Blacky took a coulple more swings at the creature on him and Kanon. If it dropped, he moved to block whatever was coming down the passage.

Dalgaer moved to cover that tunnel while saying to Arachne, "If you could heal me without harming yourself, I would be grateful." Then he planted his feet widely and held his ax ready as he watched down the tunnel for the source of the noise.

"I think Azrun can web it," Echo said hastily. "If we need it." She held her dagger and moved so she could see down the tunnel without getting in Dalgaer's way.

Azrun continued to dance with his partner, "Did you invite friends? That is so rude and unbecoming of a monster such as yourself. I beginning to think you don't like us or something."

Azrun looked to see Jana joining the fray, "Oh now you're screwed...Jana here hates rudeness"

"Azrun, attend the tunnel," said Aloysius as he began casting.

Azrun continued with the hook creatures, "I'll get to it as soon as I know ugly here isn't going to ventilate me from behind."

Aloysius cast a spell and disappeared as he floated up near the cavern ceiling. Dalgaer's wounds disappeared in an instant before he moved over to try to block the tunnel where the noises were coming from. Kanon prayed over Blacky, and the big warrior began to a rosy-red color. He attacked the monster in front of him with increased fervor, dropping the beast to the ground. Azrun tried to disengage from the monster on him, but it did not seem to want to be disengaged, in spite of the fact that Jana was coming up on it. It took a couple of ineffective swings at Azrun, leaving itself open for Jana to impale it. It also collapsed to the tunnel floor as she pulled her sword free.

Two more of the same type of creature emerged from the tunnel, nearly right on top of Dalgaer.

"Well, hells," Jana grumbled. She hefted her icked-up sword and moved to engage the newcomers.

"Thanks!" Dalgaer said as he felt the healing,

Dalgaer attacked one of the creatures at once with his ax. He yelled, "A DOZEN OF THE BEASTS OVER HERE! THESE TWO PLUS MORE COMING!" He tried to keep the creatures from rushing past him.

Kanon looked between his comrades and moved over to Jana and moved his
hands through the gestures of yet another prayer.

"I'm _trying_," Arachne's voice replied, her voice in the neighborhood of a frustrated whine. It was also still located right behind him. "I'm not staying close to you because it seemed to me a safe place to cower. Well, not _just_ because of that. Though it doesn't seem to me that near you is particularly safe, after all..."

Behind him there was another whimpered gasp, a soft keening, that didn't last long and, softly, "I must be --"

"Eep!"

Echo backed away from the tunnel deeper into the cave.

Azrun moved up to a point so he could see into the tunnel where the critters were coming, "I hope they brought their own utensils...we don't have enough forks for everyone." With that said he began casting a spell.

Blacky ran to help Dalgaer with the new foes.
