Move 438:  Searching and New Racket

Tunnels--Early, Day 42 (Marpenoth 25)

Blacky continued to search the cavern. Suggestions were made to look for unseen doors in the cavern and to more closely examine the magic Azrun had detected on the strange rock. Arachne punched Dalgaer, coming back into view at the tail end of what looked like a wild swing. The male gnome did not appear hurt by the strike. Arachne did appear to be very hurt, though; she was cut, gashed, and bloodied from multiple wounds on her small form.  Arachne painfully moved over to the rock, sniffing around Renn's pack.

Some noise, not really a clamoring but the unmistakable sounds of something coming their way, reached their ears from the upper unexplored tunnel.

Dalgaer gasped when he saw Arachne. "Can't someone heal her?" he asked in a plaintive tone.

Arachne glanced back at him guiltily.

"Crap." Jana muttered. She drew her sword and headed toward the tunnel from which they heard the noise.

Dalgaer readied his ax and prepared for battle by placing himself before the tunnel.

Kanon looked at Arachne and sighed rubbing the back of his neck and looking down as he remarks in a semi-pleading tone, "I have no more healing.  Arachne please use the potion and whatever part of that powder you need get better." He looked back up at the far tunnel and took a position several feet behind the line of fighters. He began to pray and gesture at the line of fighters mumbling, "Friend of Lathander and mover of the world..."

"I'd rather use renewable healing abilities instead," Arachne sighed. "I --"

Some noise, not really a clamoring but the unmistakable sounds of something coming their way, reached their ears from the upper unexplored tunnel.

Arachne stayed by Renn's pack while Jana and Dalgaer moved to the other end of the cavern. "If that noise leads to a fight," she conceded, "then I probably will use the powder or potion. Either on me or on whomever -- whatever seems best.

"By the way, I know we're distracted now by whatever's approaching, but maybe you'd like to know: Renn seems to have disappeared at this magical rock. His scent is here and here only."

Blacky positioned himself close to tunnel, axe readied for battle.

"Here only?" Echo said, giving the rock another stare. She did not seem to be paying attention to the new noises.

"Well, he came in with us and with his pack," Arachne admitted.  "And his pack stayed. His scent doesn't show that he moved away from the rock again in any direction. Unless he chose to double back again ... on his trail again ... after walking right up to that beaked rock..." The gnome wobbled a little, then asked, "Sorry Echo -- am I clear yet?" She glanced at the noisy tunnel and dug out of her purse the potion bottle that Kanon had given her. "Guess I'd better ready the medicine... in case..." She held the bottle in hand, but didn't drink.

"Azrun, web the tunnel now!" implored Aloysius. He backed away from the northern tunnel opening so that the fighters could position themselves.

The bard had been studying the rock and looked up to Aloysius, "Hmmmm? Oh the tunnel...right."  He stood and moved to where he could get a descent shot at the tunnel and began to cast his spell.
