Unlike the previous questing areas in the game, you can't gain access to the Docks unless you have 50,000 marks to spare for every trip that you're going to make there. In addition, your character has to be at least at Level 20, and even having achieved this level isn't necessarily good enough because you can't equip the weapons that are dropped by the monsters if you don't have any Fighter skills. Of course, you should have some Fighter skills by now and they'll prove to be very useful against the monsters that you'll be facing here and in other advanced areas of the game. Make sure that your character's performance has been optimal up to this point because the monsters here can pack a mean punch if your Defense isn't up to par. If you ever find a pair of Silver Sea Slippers, be sure to hold on to it because it's the best footwear that you'll have until you're willing to fork over hundreds of sets of weapons for the chance to manufacture a pair of Crystal Swift Boots at the Dragon Guard. If you think that you're ready to move on, buy a Rutter to Hie Brasil and hope for the best.

Sea Slippers (Old)

These old Sea Slippers are no longer dropped by Mermaids, but they provide much more skill than their newer counterparts. Although it certainly doesn't provide enough defense to rival the Swift Boots, it's best to use these slippers if you have weapons with Panic equipped, such as the Spirit Katana or Silver Masamune.

Sea Slippers (New)

Newer pairs of Sea Slippers don't provide as much skill as their retired counterparts, and it may be a good idea to turn in the weapons that you've gathered in the Forest and Mountains to complete the Noble Trophies mission for a pair of Swift Boots. However, if skill points are more important to your character than defense, you should use a pair of these slippers instead. It should also be used if you have weapons with Panic equipped, such as the Spirit Katana or Silver Masamune.

Dragon Shield

The Dragon Shields that are dropped by the Pirates are identical to the ones that are dropped by the Snots in the Dungeons, so you probably won't need to replace your current left-handed weapon unless you find a Dragon Shield that provides more defense and skill.

Serpent Scale

On average, Serpent Scales provide a little less defense and more skill than Dragon Shields. Equip a Serpent Scale if skill points are more important to your character than defense. You should also save a few Serpent Scales if you're planning to make some Serpent Scale Soup at the Dragon Guard.

Great Bow

This two-handed weapon provides a nice amount of attack and skill points, but you're likely to find a Great Pike from the Dungeons that will provide more attack than this weapon. Great Bows are also unnecessary to equip because if your character is strong enough to defeat the Pirates, he or she should be able to defeat the Gladiators in Hie Brasil for a Gladius. Sell this bow for a thousand or so marks.
