Jim Pitts' command. The Highland mech warriors and tanks, along with some Davion artillery, await the attackers.

The Struggle Continues
This gritty Science-Fiction battle, the second of three linked games, was played this at Jay Stribling's home in Jackson Mississippi on August 15th. Our rules were cobbled up by Fred Diamond who knows that the Jackson Gamers need simple rules. Fred provided the mechs and ran the game.
The Clan forces were on the attack in this game, but were blunted and had to fall back at game's end.

Bill Hamilton's mechs begin their attack on the Highlanders. Eventually Bill worked his way around the left flank of the defenders, but about the time they got in the rear, the game ended.

Sean Pitts' aerial attack goes in to support the Highlanders defense. The flyers were fast and fragile but while they lasted they strafed, doing a swath of damage.
What were your objectives in this game?
The Davion forces Plus an ad hoc collection of units was to cover the retreat of artillery pieces that had exhausted thier ammunition supply. The attacking Clan forces were trying to overrun and destroy these guns during their moment of weakness.

Bryan Thompson at left waits while John Murdaugh arranges his dice juuussst so! John's mechs are by his right hand. The mech's closest to the camera are Jay Stribling's command. Stribling set his mechs up and did not move, providing fire support from the rear. For this he was roundly castigated by his fellow commanders.

Ed Sansing at left struggles with paperwork. An army does not run on gasoline or plutonium, rather it floats on a sea of paper! Sometimes games seem to do the same.

The MAN! A study in the solitude of command. Napoleon on left, Fred Diamond, our game-master - on right.

Jim Pitts laughs at something the game-master said. Jim commanded the left flank defenders - a highland unit. Bill Hamilton (in center) also struggles with paperwork.
Who were the players in this Game?
The attacking Clan forces players were Bill Hamilton, Ed Sansing, and Bryan Thompson. The defending Davion forces and their collection of mercenaries and other defenders were John Murdaugh, Jim Pitts, Jay Stribling and Sean Pitts.

Sean Pitts (standing in American flag shirt) commanded the defender's aerial reinforcements which entered on turn 3. They did great execution on the Clans' light forces before falling prey to AA fire and fuel exhaustion.

Ed Sansing records the gory scene. The flames shown are woods which Bill Hamilton set on fire, trapping a few of Jim Pitt's mechs and forcing others to move.

John Murdaugh again consults the dice to find out what damage he did as he fired on Bryan Thompson's mechs.

Bryan Thompson's grey-colored mechs close in on John Murdaugh's variously-colored mercenary mechs. After a certain point in the game (turn 5 perhaps) John's command mech was disabled. The mercenaries decided enough was enough and left the field at that point.

So, Who won this battle?
The Mixture of Davion and ad hoc units won. Although they lost about half of their artillery pieces, the rest made it safely off to the rear areas. A few mechs got killed on both sides, but the Clan's light forces and infantry were savaged - eaten up!
The victory points were: Defending Davion and allied forces - 101 points. The attacking Clan forces - 79 points. The game-master ruled that the attackers had to pull back.
