Jackson Gamers' Battletech game
A Fatal Error

Played on August 20, 2005 at HOBBYTOWN in North Jackson.

The Game-Master was Fred Diamond who also provided the Mechs and the terrain.

The coordinator of the Draconis Combine has made a fatal error, his tour of various worlds has brought him to a disputed planet. The time to strike is now!!! The radical forces loyal to the federated suns are prepared to strike a blow for freedom against the tyranical leader of the draconis combine

Each player must choose his side!!! He must either be a loyal son of the dragon or be a member of the elite swordsworn, dedicated to restoring the planet of Lyons to the hands of house davion. Or maybe he will choose to be the one of the ruthless mercenary company, the Stalking Rhinos...

The peaceful town of Beelcooch at the start of the game. No forces visible (all hidden behind stealth-screens undoubtedly) - just a prefab innocent town. Somewhere on the battlefield the Draconis Coordinator is hidden. The best guess it that he is in this town. He is valuable dead or alive...and easier to pack & ship DEAD!

The Players and Sides

Jay Stribling, Robert Whitfield and Travis Melton were the forces of House Davion - The Federated Suns. They were trying to find and eliminate the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine who was on the planet, and suspected of being in the town.

Sean Pitts, Ed Sansing and Phil Young were the defenders the Draconis Combine. Mike Todd commnanding the mercenary unit: The Stalking Rhinos. The mercenary unit did tie down Sean Pitts' Draconis forces but then they reurned to orbit after collecting their fee.

Fred Diamond was the umpire as well as the rules arbiter and the creator of the scenario.

Two blown-up tanks. The Davion infantry shown are still ducking from the fire that went right over them to hit the vehicles.

Two Draconis Assault helicopters begin firing missiles at Robert Whitfield's vehicles. The vehicles put on speed, trying to reach the safety of the woods. In vain! They were destroyed by the helicopters' missiles.

The fate of the hellicopters after Jay Stribling and Robert Whitfield concentrated their fire on them. They can dish it out, but can they take it - NO!

A view from above the town, taken from a Draconis stealthed sensor platform. This shows the attacking Davion Mechs, vehicles, and infantry. One of the houses in the town is on fire. The white hexagon is a Draconis combine command-detonated mine. The Davion attackers learned about them the hard way. Red blotches are Draconis artillery fire beginning to impact. White areas in the rear of the attackers may look like game rules laid on the table. In reality, they are stealthed rear areas which the sensor platform could not image.

Mercenary attackers fording the river, heading for the town. Note that there are more of those pesky Draconis combine command-detonated mines in this image.

Robert Whitfield's Davion Mech, one vehicle and infantry move around south of the woods, trying to take the town in flank.

Final Davion assault on town, showing fire of attackers. The Draconis defenders' mech at extreme right had to retire from the front lines due to damage and overheating.

The final rush toward the town, all Draconis defenders driven off or incinerated. The fire to upper right was a Draconis mech.

So - who won this game anyway?

Well the Davion forces, with some help by the mercenaries, did destroy or drive off all the defenders of the battered town of Beelcooch, and the Coordinator HAD been there. But it took them so long to get into the town, that the one that they had been seeking (the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine) was LONG GONE. So this was a no-win, but no-lose for everybody involved. Just a little nuclear-powered fun in the afternoon boys!
