BEGINNING: MISSION UNDER THE SEA

The game begins with an FMV. You are right in the middle of a dig. Roll, your spotter, is speaking to you. You open a large door to see a fabulous treasure. No, it's not the Mother Lode, but it is a pretty large Blue Refractor. The FMV continues. You take the refractor and it starts a chain reaction; doors close behind you as you escape just in time. The FMV ends and game play begins. This first mission is really easy. It serves as a tutorial for learning the basics of the game (check the other links for more information). When you gain control of Megaman, go down the corridor. At the first left, Roll warns you of a Reaverbot nearby. She also teaches you your first (and probably most important) lesson - how to fire your Buster Gun. A Reaverbot, huh? There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary, but what are those things sticking out of the wall ahead on the right? Proceed forward CAREFULLY! When you get close, the first Reaverbot pops out of the wall. Press down to run away just a bit and then do as Roll instructed - press R2 to lock onto the target and press square-button to fire away. Once the Reaverbot explodes, it will probably release a refractor shard. Pick it up to gain Zenny (remember that refractor shards are also used as money - a Zenny is your basic monetary unit). As you pick up the shards you may activate the next Reaverbot - just repeat the process of pushing down to back off, R2 to lock on and square to fire until all three Reaverbots are toast. Move forward. There is a turn to the right and two more Reaverbots in the wall ahead and on the right. Roll advises you to turn right but go ahead and nail the two Reaverbots for some extra Zenny (or maybe not - even if you don't get any money you need the experience shooting the Reaverbots anyway). Beyond them is a dead end. Go back and take the turn Roll told you to take in the first place (now it will be on your left). Go forward. There's a doorway to your right (i.e. Megaman's right) and a hall to the left directly across from it with three more Reaverbots (shoot 'em up and get the Zenny). Go past the door and the hall to a dead end - you can go left or right. Roll warns you away but ... To the left is a dead end. Nice try brave adventurer. To the right is a booby trap. If you walk over the raised button in the floor you become trapped by a locked door and snake-like Reaverbots drop in. Just aim and blast them. The door unlocks and you can go back to the door across from the hall. At the door, Roll teaches you the second most important fundamental of the game - checking objects and opening doors by using the O-button. Open the door and go in. Open the next door and Roll shouts a warning. Inside the room are three columns and three Reaverbots lurking about. Take them out, pick up the Zenny, and open the next door for a new area. Go up the ramp and check the platform. Roll gives you another important lesson - use the X-button to jump. Exit through the doorway and go down a very short corridor. Roll shouts another warning of Reaverbots. At the end of the short corridor (it's really more of a connector) you can go left or right. Left is a dead end. Go right. Go down the corridor, take a left and you come to a doorway on the right. Inside there is a ledge you can't reach and a box that doesn't seem useful. But wait ... blast or kick it until it explodes and it scatters refractor shards all over (you may also see orange-red squares that are energy cubes - they will recharge your health). You get another important lesson; Quantum Refractors and their use are explained. Pick up the Zenny, and then leave the room. Go right and proceed to the next left. You can hear a strange noise. Go down the hall to discover the origin of the noise - a force field blocking a doorway on the right. Go past it. At the next left, Roll teaches yet another valuable lesson - use R2 to track Reaverbots above and below, or when you can't see them. Go around the corner and blast the Reaverbot. Enter the door on the right. In the room there is another force field and two large upright cylinder-type sparking transformers. Destroy them both to shut off the force fields. Go past where the force field was in this room to find two treasure chests. One has 560 Zenny inside and the other has Power Raiser - a Buster Gun part. You get a short tutorial on equipping Buster Gun parts right after you get it. Make sure you equip it. Then go back to the door where the first force field was. It is gone now. Go to the door. Roll shouts a warning of a large blip ahead. What could it be? Open the door and ...
BOSS FIGHT

You enter a room with a large boss. Don't worry he is easy. All he does is shuffle around and stops when he locks onto you, but then he takes a lot of time to swing his club-like arm at you (you can move to the side while he has to continue his attack, hitting the ground instead of you). Just avoid his attacks (easy - he is very slow) and blast him with your Buster Gun. Also notice the boss life gauge meter in the upper right-hand corner. This shows how much life he has left before you defeat him. This is also a good time to get in the practice of a good boss tactic early on. Fire your buster while continuously circling the boss and use left direction combined with R1 or right direction combined with L1 to keep the energy blasts hitting the boss and you out of harms way. In no time this boss is history.
Nothing left at this tower but an FMV. Watch as you escape. But the boss reactivates. You make it outside at the top of the tower in the sea. Where is Roll? As you look the boss comes up the elevator behind you. He pushes you right to the edge where you jump onto ... a flying ship. It's the Flutter. You fly away as the Reaverbot glares in anger.

KATTELOX ISLAND - CRASH IN CARDON FOREST

More FMV of the ship; Megaman and Roll talk about the mission, the refractor, The Mother Lode and Roll's parents. Then Gramps calls and warns about an engine malfunction. Megaman checks the map. Kattelox Island is nearby so they head that way. The Flutter struggles until they make a crash landing in the Cardon Forest. You all exit the Flutter. Gramps and Roll talk a minute, and then you need to head for the city. You can jump around on the Flutter, talk to Roll or Gramps, and talk to Data and save. Data can also recharge your energy and tell you about different things. As the game progresses, Data will have new information to tell you, so check with him often. At this point he tells you about saving (you need a memory card, can save up to five different games, and you have to talk to Data), about Buster Parts (power ups that attach to your Buster Gun, you can attach up to two parts at the same time, and to try different combinations), and asking him "What should I do?" gets you the response of finding the city - answer "I don't know where it's at" and he hints to look at a nearby sign (Note: you can wander around the Cardon Forest, check out the ruins and the sub-gate in the next area, or talk to people to get hints and info but what you really need to do is head for Apple Market). Check the sign - it shows the direction of town. Go on past it. You get a short FMV of a police car as it rushes past you. Go back to the crashed Flutter. You can talk to the police officer, the detective and Roll first. If you talk to Data he suggests you talk to Gramps. Talk to Gramps and he goes with the police back to the City Hall. Now head back towards town - Apple Market to be exact (you soon discover you can't enter the city without an ID card). If you talk to Roll first she suggests the same thing and Data has nothing new. When you reach the town walls, you can talk to a man by one of the ruin entrances (he blocks the way for you to enter - in fact you can't get into any ruins just yet). You don't know it yet but he runs the Junk Shop in Apple Market. There's also a junked car on the left. Pass through the old wall - a sign that there was maybe another town long before this one. To the left is a floating ship; it's occupants are past it in the corner - hiding? They seem worried about being discovered or getting a ticket. If you talk to them they mention something about Miss Tron. Hmmm ... Go to the door and enter Apple Market.

APPLE MARKET

Apple Market Tips:

  1. Kick the yellow can lying on the ground until it goes behind the Jetlag Bakery counter on the right for a bonus 1000 Zenny.
  2. Talk to everyone in Apple Market to pick up clues, information, and as always have some fun. Talk to a guy in coveralls to learn how to look around.
  3. Check all the garbage cans and boxes. There is 50 Zenny in the first garbage can on your left; a Broken Cleaner in the Box to the right in front of the Staple Electric Goods Store; 100 Zenny in a box by the Junk Store; and 20 Zenny in the last garbage can on the right.
You can talk to everyone and check all the shops (don't forget to kick the can), but eventually you must go into the Junk Store and talk to the owner's wife. She'll tell you about her husband and ask if you'll go look for him. Tell her yes, and then leave the shop (don't forget to kick the can). Go back outside Apple Market to where you saw the man at the ruin entrance on your way in. Data is just outside Apple Market. This is a good time to save, especially for beginners. Data suggests going after the junk dealer (he has no other new info). Go to the ruin entrance and enter.

YOUR FIRST DIG: SAVING THE JUNK DEALER

Inside the ruin, you can hear the junk dealer crying for help and the telltale sounds of Reaverbots. Turn around to see a door and a corridor. Go down the corridor carefully. Go around the left corner. Ahead of you, you can see a ledge above you and to the left. There are usually two Reaverbots on the ledge. These are just like the ones in the first mission under the sea. A third Reaverbot may be in the corridor ahead of you. A fourth Reaverbot may appear at the end of the corridor (or around the next right turn depending on how quickly you go). For now advance down the corridor and take out the Reaverbots with your Buster Gun (don't forget to pick up the refractor shards they release for more Zenny). Ahead (before you take the next right turn) you will see a dark spot on the wall in the corner (past the corridor on the right i.e. the next right turn). Check it for 2600 Zenny. Now take the next right turn (don't forget the fourth Reaverbot). A fifth Reaverbot may already be in the corridor. You may also already be encountering snake-like Reaverbots (like the ones at the booby-trap in the first mission). Go down the ramp and take the next right. Enter the large room and look right down the next corridor. You may already see the junk dealer dancing around on a ledge. Rush in and blast any remaining Reaverbots. Go talk to the junk dealer. He thanks you for saving him and tells you to stop by the shop for an item. Then he runs off. At this point all you need to do is go back to the Junk Shop in Apple Market. However, I suggest you explore the rest of this ruin first. Go through the door in this room. Go down the ramp but beware of the tiny gold Reaverbots. I call them booby-trap Reaverbots since they only activate when you go near them and have a nasty attack - they blow themselves up to do damage to you.
Tactics :
Beginners Tactic: Just run right past them and exit through the next door.
Advanced Tactic: Activate each one separately and blast them for an occasional refractor shard (no guarantees - just luck of the draw).
Either way, exit through the door. Enter the narrow snaking corridor and carefully get the two Reaverbots inside. When you come to the other end of this winding tunnel, there are two new types of Reaverbots. One just sits there and spins around and does nothing (this is the controller) while the other is much taller and runs around shooting fireballs at you (this is the servant).
Tip:
Shoot the controller and it paralyzes the servant. It will just stand still and let you shoot it without moving or shooting a fireball. The downside is that when it blows up you don't get as much Zenny.
There is one pair of each in both of the chambers at the end of the winding/snaking corridor (i.e. one controller and one servant in the first chamber and one controller and one servant in the second chamber). Be sure to get all of them and then check the treasure chest for Rapid Fire (Buster Gun part - see the legend at the beginning of the walkthrough). You also get another buster part tutorial here. Equip the part to your Buster Gun in the second slot. Go back to the ruin entrance but don't leave just yet.
Note:
If you only got the servant Reaverbot but did not get the controller, then another servant may regenerate as you try to go back to the entrance. This is a common occurrence with this type of Reaverbot.
Take the door opposite the way out. There's not much here though - a mysterious looking wall and a door that leads to another servant/controller pair of Reaverbots. Get them for the extra Zenny (you have to jump and fire a couple of times to get the one on the ledge). There's a ledge in here but you can't jump to it so go back to the way out. Exit the ruin.
Note:
If you go back into the ruin, the Reaverbots reactivate and you can get more practice (and more Zenny) if you need it. Otherwise you can go on back to the Junk Shop.

BACK TO APPLE MARKET

When you come out of the ruin, you will immediately see Roll checking out the junked car; Data is with her. Go talk to Roll, and then talk to Data. He suggests going to the Junk Shop. He has no other new information. Go to the Junk Shop (don't forget to kick the can when you enter Apple Market). The wife thanks you and the Junk Dealer gives you Mine Parts Kit as a reward. Then he explains about the junked car and tells you that you can have it. Unfortunately he doesn't have any parts to fix the Flutter. He suggests you dig for them yourself (that is look for them in the ruins). Exit the shop. Kick the can.
KAG: If you reenter the shop, there is a new person there who is doing research on the island's ruins. Exit the shop again and kick the can.
Go back to Roll, Data and the junked car. Data suggests asking Roll about the Mine Parts Kit. Talk to Roll for an FMV. You decide to dig for parts to fix the Flutter. Then Roll notices the Mine Parts Kit. Megaman mentions that they can have the car. You enter the car and Roll prepares a totally new weapon for you. She uses the Mine Parts Kit to make Splash Mine. This is your first Special Weapon so Roll gives you a brief explanation and tutorial. Roll adds that while you explore the island looking for more ruins so you can find parts for the Flutter, she will work on the car. After she finishes talking, you can talk to her about the car, item development, special weapons or just talk. Soak up all the info (maybe make a few notes on your own and post them to tips and strategies) and then leave. Outside the car, an officer approaches and gives you your citizen's card. He also warns about pirates. Roll becomes worried about Gramps so you'd better go into the city and check on him.

FINDING GRAMPS: DOWNTOWN AND CITY HALL

At Apple Market, kick the can and then try to enter the city. A gang of three boys is blocking the door (you've probably noticed them and hopefully chatted with them before now). You get your last basic lesson - use O-button with the direction pad to walk/sneak around. Sneak up on the boys. You overhear them talking about a suspicious girl, then they notice you and split up. You can go talk to them as well as anyone else in town. Check the Junk Shop and you can buy some items. Consider buying Turbo Charger Alpha, Range Booster Alpha, and Power Raiser Alpha (these show up with the alpha symbol). You also definitely want Energy Canteen, and to consider buying a couple of Extra Packs as well as a couple of extra Life Gauges. Before you leave talk to a new person at the shop - a digger - who tells you that you need a license to be a digger on Kattelox Island. Exit the shop. When you are ready go into Downtown. When you first enter, you get an FMV - you see the suspicious girl the three boys were talking about. It's Miss Tron (remember the guys by the flying ship outside Apple Market mentioned her), and she is talking to what appear to be troops. She notices you and runs off. Now you can explore Downtown.

Downtown Tips:

  1. Don't go out in front of cars - they will run you down and do damage.
  2. Talk to everyone in Downtown to pick up clues, information, and as always have some fun. Check inside the library and read the books on the shelves to pick up even more tips.
  3. Check all the garbage cans. There is 10 Zenny in a Garbage Can located???? and a Broken Motor in the Garbage Can located????.
  4. The West Gate is locked and the East Gate is locked; you came from the South Gate so that just leaves the North Gate.
Go through the North Gate. You are at the Northern City (on the map it only has City Hall labeled - I just decided to call it the Northern City instead of the City Hall Area or Northern Downtown or ... well you get the picture). You can talk to Miss Tron again (she doesn't have quite as much to say this time) or anyone else around on the lower level and then go up to the upper level. Here there are several buildings including a Bank, City Hall, the Police Station, and some other buildings that appear to be people's homes.
KAG: At the Police Station you will find another of Miss Tron's soldiers, the Inspector (remember him from the beginning), and a woman who lost her wallet shopping (I thought this might be another side-quest but no one in Apple Market has seen a wallet).
When you are ready, go to City Hall and speak to the officers outside. One of them goes inside to find Gramps, and then you go inside. You meet the Mayor - Amelia. She is an old friend of Gramps, who you find out is also known as Professor Barrell. They think Pirates are after the Legendary Treasure rumored to be buried somewhere on the island. Gramps tells you to go back to Roll and tell her he's ok. Leave Gramps and go downstairs. You can talk to some people there and then exit City Hall.

BACK TO ROLL

When you leave, a dog (Paprika) is chasing Miss Tron back to Downtown. Follow her. On the lower level you see officers talking to the three boys by the South Gate leading to Downtown. Go into Downtown. Paprika has "treed" Miss Tron - that is, she has climbed a light pole and Paprika has her covered. Talk to Paprika, then Miss Tron, then Paprika again. Paprika backs down and runs away. You talk to Miss Tron for a bit and then she runs off. Continue to head for Roll. When you reach Apple Market kick the can. When you reach the Cardon Forest, you see the Pirate Ship take off. Go to Roll. Talk to her and you see more Pirate Ships fly towards Downtown and then you hear the telltale sounds of a battle beginning. Roll runs for the city. Go after her. At the gate between Apple Market and Downtown, Data is waiting. Talk to him; be sure to recharge your energies and SAVE!!!

SAVING THE CITY FROM THE PIRATES

Stock up on canteen slots (i.e. Extra Packs) and life gauge slots (i.e. Life Gauge) - as much as you think you will need or can afford.
HINT: If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. Take advantage of your save to try out different combinations and strategies. Try a battle first to see what you think you will need for the upcoming battles, then reset and buy it and try again. If you need more Zenny, you can go back to the Junk Dealer ruin to stock up and you can kick the can in Apple Market for a little extra as well. Sometimes you don't need any extra items as much as you just need a little practice. Try to play through several times until you get a feel for what you are missing.
My personal equipment recommendations:
BEGINNERS - buy up as many life points and as many canteen points as you can afford (more canteen points than life points if you have difficulty with the boss battles doing too much damage to your life points).
ADVANCED - buy up life and canteen points until you have about six or seven of each (as with the beginners tip, buy up more canteen points than life points if you have difficulty with the boss battles doing too much damage to your life points).
FOR BOTH - buy Buster Parts Power Raiser ¨¢ and Range Booster ¨¢ as well as Turbo Charger ¨¢, then equip Power Raiser ¨¢ and Range Booster ¨¢ and have Turbo Charger ¨¢ handy when range is no longer an issue.

When you enter Downtown, two officers are confronting Roll and then they notice you. They warn you of the Pirates. They are heavily armed, and too much for the police to handle. Megaman will step in and take care of the Pirates and then see about Gramps. Megaman approaches the Pirate machines. There are three ground units, apparently called Blumebears; red, blue and yellow. There are also two air units called airships (nothing fancy there). When you get to them you get a Mission Start.

MISSION START A:
Get the key to the gate!

One of the three servbots
has the key - they can pass
it back and forth between
them, so you'll have to
figure out which one of them has it!

Each of the three
servbot's robots is unique
and has different
capabilities - red is built
for combat, blue is built
for speed, and yellow is
built for endurance.

So you need to get the key to the gate from one of the ground units. They'll pass it back and forth but that's ok since you're going to take out ALL the ground and air units anyway. Also, the three units are different, as indicated in the Mission Start. What it boils down to is the blue unit moves faster, the yellow one has more hit points, and the red one has better weaponry. Afterwards the battle begins.

BOSS FIGHT

At first the three Blumebears just sit there so take advantage of the situation; run around them and fire your Buster Gun at them to do as much damage as you can. When you do enough damage, one of the servbots says "He's too strong" and they split up. The boss meters appear and the real battle begins. They have an assortment of attacks with bombs and energy blasters. It's always been easier for me to just roam the streets and blast the Blumebears with my Buster Gun. However, you can also follow them until they double back, then run away and lay mines behind you with your special weapon Splash Mine. Remember to press triangle-button to use it. A combination of the two makes short work of the three machines.

Boss Tips:

  1. Don't be too quick to use your canteen as the Blumebears will give up a generous supply of energy cubes when they are destroyed.
  2. The pop machines allow you to recharge your energy. It costs 100 Zenny but you might get lucky and get a freebie if you kick it. Careful though or you'll destroy the machine and then you can't get anything.
  3. Use the boss tactic mentioned at the beginning of the walkthrough. Here it is again: Fire your buster while continuously circling the boss and use left direction combined with R1 or right direction combined with L1 to keep the energy blasts hitting the boss and you out of harms way.
  4. Finally, if you come across the Gate Key early on, wait until the final Blumebear is destroyed to get it - also be sure to pick up as much Zenny as you can.
When you get the Gate Key, you get a mission complete. Afterwards there's a short FMV. Tron's troops come crying to her - she is in a monster boss of her own, the Feldiknott. It's time for the second phase of this boss battle. Miss Tron tries to get Megaman to join the Pirates, but he turns her down and it's all out war. She's pretty tough in the Feldiknott. She has a fireball attack from it's nose, an energy gun attack from the undercarriage (not unlike your Buster Gun), a spitting bomb attack, and a spinning bomb launch attack as well as a straightforward charge. Avoid her attacks using the boss tactic described above and jump to avoid the bombs when necessary.
Tip:
Try to minimize the damage she does to Downtown by staying close to her and destroying her quickly - this will save you some Zenny later on (same for the City Hall area).

After you defeat her, you get another FMV, and then you can talk to Data at the Pirate Gate to recharge your energy. If you had to use your canteen, you can go back to Apple Market to get it refilled (TIP: Rather than pay to refill it, just buy another pack for it - it refills automatically) and buy any other equipment you think you might need. Go back to Data at the Pirate Gate. He also has some new information so talk to him and get all the goods. When you are done, save your game (this is a REALLY GOOD TIME TO STOP PLAYING AND TAKE A BREAK). When you are ready, go through the door to the City Hall Area. A short FMV of news crews covering the Pirate attack and Megaman's intervention and arrival at City Hall. Another Boss Fight. The Pirates are attacking City Hall from the air (if you talked to Data at the Pirate Gate you should have already known this).

MISSION START:
Defend City Hall!

The red robots will attack
City Hall, while the
yellow robots will attack
the nearest building.

Protect City Hall, the
Police Station, and the
Bank from the pirates!

BOSS FIGHT

After the Mission Start screen, the battle begins. The ships in the air bring more ground units so I usually try to get them first. However, you still want to be sure to protect the buildings (City Hall, Bank, etc.). Here are some more tips.

Boss Tips:

  1. Quickly change Buster parts - increase attack/energy power for the ground units and the air units when they are close enough and then increase range when the air units are farther away (don't overdue the range - I use Range Booster ¨¢ and Power Raiser ¨¢) .
  2. If the air units are dropping too many bombs around you, jump away from the area to get a clear spot and continue fighting.
  3. Use your boss tactic when dealing with the air units.
You must destroy all the air and ground units to win the battle. After you get the last one you get a few seconds to gather up the Zenny. Then the second phase of the battle begins.
After you win this battle you get the ultimate boss fight with Bon Bonne (yes, no kidding, this is his name). He launches missiles at you. Run and jump to avoid these attacks (much easier if you are already using your boss tactic as you should). He'll also come after you and try to slap you between his hands, or he'll stop and stick his tongue out at you (don't laugh - the tongue lashes out a pretty long way and is actually a devastating attack if you are just standing there firing your Buster at him).

Boss Tips:

  1. Power up your Buster by increasing attack/energy power. Range is not really an issue with Bon Bonne (you can try to run away to shoot him from a distance but he only fires his missiles at you and/or follows you pretty closely to keep the battle at close range). I would recommend using Power Raiser ¨¢ combined with either Power Raiser, Turbo Charger ¨¢, or Rapid Fire.
  2. When he sticks his tongue out, he will be frozen for a few moments until he finishes the attack. This is a great opportunity to avoid the attack, then use auto aim and blast him.
  3. If he swats his hands at you and a post or building is in the way, he'll take a few moments to swat at it, giving you time to auto aim and blast away.
  4. Use your boss tactic.

Defeat him and the pirates swoop in to rescue what is left. Then you get an FMV of the head pirate, Teasel. Afterward, Roll shows up and you go into City Hall to see Gramps.

CITY HALL - YOUR CLASS B LICENSE

He's ok. Amelia, the Mayor, thanks you for defeating the Pirates and rewards you with a Class B Diggers License. The Inspector pops in. The Pirates are digging up the North Forest (i.e. Clozer Woods). After giving the news, the Inspector leaves; you can talk to everyone. Amelia tells you where you can "dig" with your license - the Cardon Forest ruins and the ruins to the North in the Clozer Woods (in the direction of the Pirates). Gramps wants to get to the ruins before the Pirates do and Roll wonders if the Inspector will be all right. Try to leave and Roll says she's coming with you. Seems she has the spotter's car ready to go. The police rush by. Roll wonders if they'll be all right; Megaman thinks they'll need some help. After, you can go back to the spotter's car where Data has some new information - about Lock-On and about your life shield. Ask about the shield and he will give you a free Shield Repair. Talk to Roll and she will tell you about how she can change your special weapons, enhance special weapons, item development, and using the car to move quickly around the island. She gives you the key item Walkie-Talkie. After you can talk to Roll again. Select "talk" and you can ask her about the support car, special weapons, and the Buster Gun. Soak it all up. Select support car and you can travel quickly to other areas of Kattelox Island that you have already been to such as Downtown or Cardon Forest. When you are ready, exit the support car.
NOTE: If you talk to the guy in a blue jacket and tan pants with dark brown shoes (the one who is not a car salesman - there are two guys dressed alike in the area), he'll tell you they finished throwing away parts from the giant robots (i.e. in Downtown).
Now that sounds like a hint. Go to Downtown (you can use the support car as mentioned above) and check the Garbage cans for Blumebear Parts. Take them to Roll. Select "Item Development" and she will use the Blumebear Parts to make Machine Buster. Before going on to the Yass Plains and Clozer Woods to face the Pirates yet again, you can also use the support car (or I guess you could walk as well) to go back to Cardon Forest and explore the Class B Ruin there. You don't have to go here but you can score plenty of Zenny and a Buster Unit power up (it's a pretty good one). Check out the next section. Or, if you think you are ready to go on, skip to "THE YASS PLAINS AND CLOZER WOODS;" if you do, you are a brave adventurer indeed.

CARDON FOREST CLASS B RUIN

NOTE: I certainly hope you decided to come here first (i.e. before going to the Yass Plains/Clozer Woods). Even if you didn't the walkthrough is basically the same unless you have already got Leg Springs. If you have, you will have to follow this walkthrough and combine it with "FURTHER EXPLORATION OF ALL RUINS" later in this walkthrough (after "LAKE JYUN GATE"). If you made it that far without coming here first you probably don't need any help from a walkthrough unless you have just missed picking up a key item or side-quest item (in that case, I recommend you see the "SIDE-QUESTS" section of the walkthrough). Anyway, on with the walkthrough.
Take the support car to the Cardon Forest. Exit the support car and go through the canyon. When you come out the other side stick to the left hand side of the canyon wall. Follow it around until you see the ruin.
KAG: As you come out of the canyon, there's a guy ahead of you on a grassy knoll who says he's bad with directions and doesn't know where the ruin is at (he's almost looking right at it - this is funny stuff folks). There's also a boy in red by the Flutter (I think he's just walking or running about). Nothing exciting I guess, just something new and different I noticed.
Go to it and enter. It is another part of the Mysterious Wall Ruin. Go through the doors. You enter an area with three large columns. Straight ahead is a servant Reaverbot. There is a second servant in this area also. There are ledges you can't jump to with the control units on them, but there is an exit at the end of the room to the left as you enter. Go through a short, curved, narrow hall (after defeating the two servants of course - and picking up the Zenny; about 1000 per Reaverbot). You run into a new hall with two gold booby-trap Reaverbots (like the ones from the Junk Dealer ruin) and a tiny silver Reaverbot. At the next left corner is a third gold Reaverbot and around the corner are two more silver Reaverbots. At the next left corner there is another gold Reaverbot. Around the corner there is maybe another silver Reaverbot and two more gold Reaverbots. You come to a door. This takes you to the Crossover Ruin. When you first enter you can see two pendulums swinging at a catwalk above you. Just go forward and enter the narrow confined hall. Go up the ramp and you are now on the catwalk. Avoid the pendulums and go through the door ahead. You enter a passage that you will soon discover makes a giant square. There is a giant Reaverbot in here with you like the one you battled in the very first mission. If you go right you run into him right away. As he makes his turn you can probably just run right past him to the door you eventually want to get to. Instead, go left. You will run into some giant blocks you can blast to get Zenny and power cubes before the giant Reaverbot even knows you are there. When you get to the corner the Reaverbot approaches (if you already have your special weapon Powered Buster from the Clozer Woods ruin AND you have it maxed out you can blast the giant RB to pieces right here with the advanced tactic below).
Beginners Tactic: Avoid the giant RB (he will chase you around the square) and escape through the door mentioned above (in the upper left corner of the square).
Advanced Tactic: Stay just ahead of the giant RB (this is easiest if you go left first when you enter this area) - up your range (Sniper Unit is good) and attack/energy (Blast Unit makes a good choice). Get around the corners and give yourself a little room, then turn and blast the RB with your buster (or Powered Buster mentioned above) as he takes longer to make the turn; then run when he starts up again and repeat at the next corner. At the wider part of the box (at the bottom) position yourself in the middle of the corridor and blast away. The giant RB will stop for a moment to launch his arms at you (he must wait for them to come back as well). Wail on him as the arms "woosh" by on either side of you. Just keep it up until you destroy him, then gather up all the Zenny.
If you haven't done so already, exit the doors. You are in a new hall with two pendulums and two small green RBs. Get them, get as much Zenny as you dare, and then advance while avoiding the pendulums. At the end of the hall turn right and enter yet another confined hall. It twists and turns for a bit. There are two more RBs in this corridor (blast them of course). On the other side is a large area. There are three of the controller/servant RBs in here. The servants will run around and shoot fireballs at you. Switch buster parts to equip Blast Unit and Power Raiser ¦Á to make short work of them. If you need to, use your boss tactic. Explore the area once it is clear. There's a ledge you can't reach yet. Go the other way to a ramp leading to the three controllers. At the top of the ramp is a treasure chest with 2280 Zenny and a door. Exit the door. You end up at the Reaverbot Ruin. You are on a ledge. Go down the ramp. There are several suicide RBs in here. Some are on the ground floor and some are on top of the giant blocks in the room. Avoid or blast them as your skills and/or the situation demands. There's one at the bottom of the ramp, two on the big block in the middle of the room, one on the next big block on the left, one on the block to the right and two on the ground between the two blocks. There's one more at the door on the way out. Before you leave, check the right side of the room for a hole in the wall with Old Shield inside. At the end of the room is yet another ledge you can't reach. Exit the door on the right. There's a short hall with four suicide RBs. Just run right past them and exit the door to get back to the Mysterious Wall ruin - you are now up on one of the ledges in the room. Go right for a trapped box. Blast it for the Zenny. Be careful not to fall off the ledge when you collect the Zenny or you have to start all over again to make it back onto the ledge. Go to the other end of the ledge for a controller unit, a blocked hall to the left, and a treasure chest with buster part Buster Unit inside. Go back to the blocked hall. Blast the blocks in the way and collect the Zenny. Go down the short hall to a door. Go through the door and around a curve to get to ... the catwalk you couldn't reach the very first time you entered this ruin when you saved the junk dealer - the catwalk with the controller on it and the servant below. That is all there is to this area for now. Use this as your way out or go back to the Class B ruin exit that takes you back to the Cardon Forest.
Advanced Tip: Leave the controller units intact and each time you leave an area (even briefly) and come back the servants are back again. They're worth up to 1000 Zenny each.

CARDON FOREST SUBGATE AREA - BEFORE BATTLING MARLWOLF

Go forward. As you clear the rock wall on the left a turret comes into view. It sits on a small knoll there - blast it. If you climb up on top of this knoll, you can see two more turrets in the distance. Get them and continue past them to reach a locked gate - you can see a ruin entrance behind it (you don't know it yet but this is one of the sub-gate entrances). Two servbots guard the gate. They hint you'll need something more powerful than your current weapons to get through. That's it to this area for now. Keep coming back to reset the three turrets.

THE YASS PLAINS

When you enter there is a tank right in front of you. Just aim and blast him from a distance (increase your range if you must) or charge and circle him using your boss tactic.
TIP: Pick up as much of the Zenny as you can.
Move ahead. You'll see movement in the distance. Don't worry - it's just black smoke from a damaged police car. As you approach it, a building beside the car becomes visible (this is shack number one; there are three shacks in this area altogether). Look to your left and you will see a tank hiding behind a tree. Circle around the left side of the knoll there and you can get the tank with a sneak-attack. Then go to the building to take cover from the turrets on the ridges that will start shooting at you. If you go inside you will find the inspector, a police officer, and two civilians (the girl hints about a legendary disaster; the inspector and police officer tell you the Pirates have too much fire power, they were not prepared to handle it, and ask for your help). When you exit the building the tanks (and turrets) have reset themselves.
Take advantage of it to rack up some more Zenny. You can repeat it over and over until you have enough to buy what you want to buy. I will destroy everything, enter the house that is up on the ridge and come back out, destroy everything again, exit to the City Hall or towards Clozer Woods to reset them and return to destroy everything all over again until I have enough Zenny.
From behind the police car, from the left, you'll see stationary artillery turrets on the ridge (I mentioned these earlier). They may be stationary but they can rotate and launch bombs at you from great distances so don't stand still too long. Pan right to see more turrets and a tank. Start firing your buster, run for the tank, and blast it. Keep going past it. Go between the ridges and to the left until you see another tank on a knoll in front of you. Go behind the tank and use the trees for cover; go all the way to the white fence to get out of range of the turrets. Turn around and survey the enemies again. To the left, a tank is right there - in the distance you may barely see a cave entrance that leads to CLOZER WOODS (see the next section - CLOZER WOODS) and a tank guarding it (a second tank is hidden from view). Pan right for the turrets on the ridges and another tank to your far right. Start there - get this tank first. Then get the tank on the knoll. Then the two guarding the cave.
NOTE: How you get the targets is really up to you. You can get them in a different order. You can max out your distance and blast them from relative safety. Or you can max your attack power, energy and/or rapid to move in and blast them at close range. I suggest close range as this allows you to collect the most amount of Zenny. If you are uncomfortable or just want to get used to the area you can opt to get them from far away until you get the hang of things.
Now go back to the knoll. Go between the two trees on the knoll. A third tree is on the highest point of the knoll. You should be looking just to the left of this tree and at the ridge just beyond it. Get a run and go, past the tree and jump for the ridge; you should grab hold of the ledge and then you can pull yourself up. You will find yourself staring at one of the turrets. Circle right as you aim and blast it. Continue right. Jump to the next ridge. Blast all the turrets here and you can get to the shack (shack number two). Check the boxes outside for Safety Helmet.
NOTE: Take this back to Roll and she will make Helmet for you (I would wait until you explore the Clozer Woods Class B Ruin so you can have her make Powered Buster for you at the same time).
Inside this shack is the Junk Dealer. He has some new equipment to sell, such as Flak Jacket, and the following new Buster Parts: Blast Unit and Sniper Unit. Buy what you need (you will be facing another boss soon so stock up). For this area, Blast Unit plus Power Raiser Alpha is a pretty good combo. When you exit, remember all the enemies will reset again. Blast all the enemies all over again. Eventually you will want to head toward a solitary turret on a separate ridge (to the left after you exit the shack on the ridge). Jump off the ridge facing it. Go left and around the corner to the right. Here is where you will find the last shack (shack number three). It's kind of back in a corner of this area so it's a little isolated and easily overlooked. Check one of the two garbage cans for 200 Zenny. There's nothing in the shack right now so just go behind it and jump up onto the ridge and blast the last turret. This is a hard area to describe in words. As you become more and more familiar with this area, you will become your own master and have your own tactics to use (which you can post to tips and strategies:-).

CLOZER WOODS

In the next area, there is a tank directly in front of you. Another is across the bridge. Data is off to the right at the entrance to where the Pirates are: The Clozer Woods Subgate entrance. Off to the left are two more tanks and the entrance to the CLOZER WOODS CLASS B RUIN (not to be confused with the CLOZER WOODS SUBGATE ENTRANCE). Go ahead and explore the ruin here.

CLOZER WOODS CLASS B RUIN

At this point there are no enemies. Go through the first set of doors. A wall blocks your way to the right so go left to find a box with 1780 Zenny inside. Go through the next set of doors and go up the ramp. At the top to the right is a trapped box so get behind it after it opens and blast it for a bunch of Zenny and then check the hole in the wall for 1510 Zenny; to the left, go down a short hall and go through the next set of doors on the right to the Tricky Ruin. You enter a corridor with grates above you. Move through the corridor. Take a left. You can hear the machines shooting fireballs above you. Continue ahead until you come out form under the grates and you can see the bridge above you. Turn right, go all the way to the end of the room and take another right. Go up the ramp so you are now at the same level as the bridge and the grates. Blast the first fireball machine to your left. You can go across the bridge if you want to but I think it's a little bit easier to jump to where the first fireball machine used to be. Either way you go, blast the other two fireball machines. Be careful of the four boobytrap reaverbots at the end of the bridge. There's a door to the right. When you get to it turn right (don't go through it yet). Jump across to the first ledge. Jump to the second ledge, be careful of 3 more boobytrap reaverbots. Open the box for a Cannon Kit. Go back to the door and go through it for ... a dead end (for now). Go all the way back and exit the ruin.

BATTLE WITH TEASEL BONNE AND MARLWOLF

Before going on, be sure to do the following:
  1. Find the Cannon Kit in the Clozer Woods Class B Ruin, take it and the Safety Helmet back to Roll at the Support Car at City Hall, do item development to get Helmet and Powered Buster.
  2. Buy the Buster Parts Blast Unit and Sniper Unit as well as the Flak Jacket.
  3. Be sure to go to your special items menu and equip your Helmet and Flak Jacket (When you have items like Helmet and Flak Jacket, go to special items and select the item to equip or de-equip it - you'll know it is equipped when it has an "E" next to it).
  4. Be sure to buy any remaining items you think you might need (you should be good to go).
  5. Run back and forth a couple dozen times in the Clozer Woods and Yass Plains to rack up the Zenny. If you do it just right, you can get about 3500 in the Yass Plains, 1500 in Clozer Woods, and 1500 in the Ruin. Or better yet, go to the CARDON FOREST CLASS B RUIN to rack up about 16000 per round. You can even mix it up a bit and take advantage of Data to save your game and save you from too much boredom. Find the best mix for yourself. Just remember, after you buy the Flak Jacket, you can buy Kevlar Vest (1/2 damage reduction) and then you can buy Kevlar Vest (3/4 damage reduction). You may also want to level up your Powered Buster and Machine Buster (and try them out as well) - but it all takes a lot of Zenny. However, the better your weapons and armor, the easier the upcoming battles are.
When you are ready go to Data and save, then go on. There are three more tanks in the next area. One tank is ready to fire at you as soon as you enter. Just keep on the move and blast it. After you blast the last one you get a few seconds to collect any stray Zenny, then it's Boss time.

MISSION START:
Showdown with T. Bonne

You must destroy the
digging robot Marlwolf!

The robot's outer shell is
heavily armored, but the
hatch is nearly
defenseless

Shoot the treads to slow
the robot down, then
jump on the robot from
the rocks and shoot at
the hatch!

BOSS FIGHT

After the Mission Start screen, the battle begins. You start out in the pit with the mighty digging machine Marlwolf. But maybe it's not as mighty as it seems. As the mission start states, you must first blast the treads, then attack from the rocks above. Here are some more tips.

Boss Tips:

  1. To shoot the treads, you must circle the big rock and tower in the middle. Whenever Marlwolf moves, run to stay ahead of it. Then when it stops, come up behind it and shoot the treads from behind (where there is the least amount of armor) with your regular buster gun. Don't try to shoot the treads from the front - it is too heavily armored.
  2. If Marlwolf launches a green energy blast attack, take cover or run and try to dodge it.
  3. When the boss meter appears and the treads start smoking climb the rocks to a ledge, then in spite of the directions to jump onto the Marlwolf, use your Powered Buster to blast the hatch area from the relative safety of the rocks when it opens (hopefully you weren't stingy and paid to max it out so you can make short work of the boss).
  4. You can follow the advice of the mission start and jump onto the back of the Marlwolf (by the hatch) and blast it with your regular Buster but I always had a hard time doing that.
  5. There are some regular tanks scattered about on ledges up in the rocks. You may want to take these out first to get some extra Zenny and avoid any unneccessary ambushes.
In many ways, this boss is easier than the battles in town with the Pirates. It has it's own difficulties though so be sure you save before the battle. After the battle, you can climb back to the area above. When you try to leave, Roll calls and tells you to head back to the Mayor's office at City Hall.

BACK TO CITY HALL - YOUR CLASS A LICENSE

Answer "yes" for a cut scene of the Pirates having a meeting. Then you cut back to the Mayor's office. Amelia asks you to investigate the other ruins on the island. Say yes and you get your Class A License. She also mentions something about the legendary disaster and donating items (i.e. money, although later on you can donate some of the items you find to the museum) to help rebuild the city. Talk to Gramps; he tells you where the three subgates are:
  1. The one the Pirates were trying to dig up in Clozer Woods.
  2. At the Lake (Lake Jyun in Uptown according to your map).
  3. In Cardon Forest.
Talk to Amelia again. Tell her you want to make a donation and you can see how much damage your battles with the Pirates have done - hopefully you followed my advice to minimize the damage and maximize your Zenny count so you can go ahead and pay for all the damages. After this you can leave the office. Talk to the people downstairs for KAGs. Outside there are a lot more people to talk to as the residents of the city have returned. Nothing vital, just have some fun with it.
NOTE: You can use the support car to go to Cardon Forest, Downtown, and City Hall at this point.
If you made a donation to Amelia and you go to Downtown, you will see they are already beginning to make repairs. There are lots of people here to talk to also. You can also explore the Old City now. You can go North of the Old City to see the Power Plant, and South to see the Main Gate. The dogs in the Old City attack noises so talk to people and/or run at your own risk. At the main gate there's a few people you can talk to and some cats, one of which you can take home with you (i.e. back to the Flutter). Nothing much more to exploring this area for now. From Downtown, you can now go West to explore the Lake Jyun area (i.e. Uptown).

LAKE JYUN/UPTOWN AREA

When you first enter this area, you can find a Broken Propeller in a garbage can. There's also a garbage can on the upper level with 30 Zenny inside. There's some side quests you can do at this point (see SIDE QUESTS) as well as some games you can play at the TV Station. You can play Beast Hunter to win Zetsabre, and you can play Balloon Fantasy to win Mystic Orb (see SIDE QUESTS for additional game tips). MORE DETAILS COMING SOON!!!

SIDE QUESTS

NOTE: I have indicated the earliest time you can begin to do the side quest (although you may have to wait for other later events to finish it) but you can wait and begin them at any later stage of the game.
GIVE FLOWER TO ROLL - Before fighting Marlwolf
You can find the flower in the area just past the Yass Plains - in the first area of Clozer Woods by the Class B Ruin entrance. Once you find it, take it back to the Support Car, select "Talk to Roll" and then select "Talk" to give her the flower. Later you can see the flower when you can get back into the Flutter.
MUSEUM SIDEQUEST - After defeating Marlwolf
In the Uptown/Lake Jyun Area you will find a girl on the grassy area of the upper level working on a painting. Talk to her and tell her the painting needs something red. After you finish talking to her, go back to Apple Market and look for a store called the Hipbone. Enter the store and talk to the girl behind the counter. She doesn't have any red chalk but she will let you have her Lipstick. Take it back to the painter. She accepts the lipstick, finishes her painting and then runs off. Go to the museum (it is now open). Go up the spiral staircase behind the receptionist and the painter is behind a counter up here. Talk to her. Turns out she only paints for fun. Her real job is as the curator for the museum. She asks you to bring any unusual items that you find in the ruins (or otherwise as it turns out) back to her so she can put it on display in the museum. Talk to her again and you can give her the Old Shield (she renames it Antique Shield) you found exploring the CARDON FOREST CLASS B RUIN. Later, after you explore the CARDON FOREST SUBGATE you can give her Old Bone (she calls it an Ancient Digging Tool) and Old Doll (she renames it Human Doll). Once you get Leg Springs and explore the Reaverbot Ruin again, you can give her the Shiny Object (she renames it Crystal Fossil). Note that in the walkthrough, I suggest you go back into the Cardon Forest Subgate after you get the Leg Springs so when you return to the museum you will end up giving her the Old Bone, Old Doll, and the Shiny Object all at once. You can also help the three boys finish their secret base at this point (see below) to eventually get Old Heater (she renames it a Fire Pot). Once you get your Jet Skates (after exploring the Lake Jyun Sub-Gate), you can play the racing game at the TV station to win Giant Horn. Donate this to the museum as well. After exploring the Clozer Woods Sub-Gate you can give her Antique Bell (she renames it Kattelox Bell). Finally, after exploring the Main Gate, you can give her Shiny Red Stone (she renames it Reaverbot Eye). The Crystal Fossil is a Grade Three National Treasure, the Shield is a Grade Two National Treasure and the Eye is a Grade One National Treasure. Everything else is just a normal exhibit. After you give her the final item, leave and come back. You will find a girl in a green dress upstairs. Talk to her to get Prism Crystal.
PLAY THE GAMES AT THE TV STATION: BALLOON FANTASY AND BEAST HUNTER - After defeating Marlwolf

HELP THE THREE BOYS FINISH THEIR SECRET BASE - After exploring the Cardon Forest Sub-Gate
STEP ONE: FIND PICK
STEP TWO: FIND SAW
Go back to the hideout and talk to Jim. Get the Marlwolf Shell from the stack and with the Mystic Orb you can make the special weapon Shield Arm.
STEP THREE: FIND COMIC BOOK AND BEETLES
HELP THE INSPECTOR; FIND THE BOMBS IN DOWNTOWN - After exploring the Cardon Forest Sub-Gate (I usually do this to kill time between finding the pick and finding the saw on the previous quest)

PLAY THE GAMES AT THE TV STATION: WIN THE RACES - After fixing the boat, but before using the starter keys (i.e. fix the boat, defeat the pirate robot and reach the lake jyun ruin, get the stuff from the ruin you need to make jet skates, and then use the boat to come back to town without using the starter keys or battling the lake jyun warrior - the reaverbot boss)

GIVE ROLL MUSIC BOX AND RING - After fixing the boat, but before using the starter keys (i.e. fix the boat, defeat the pirate robot and reach the lake jyun ruin, get the ring from the ruin, use the boat to come back to town without using the starter keys or battling the lake jyun warrior, win the music box at the races, and then give them to Roll)

HELP THE INSPECTOR; CHECK THE T.V. IN THE FLUTTER AND CATCH THE BANK ROBBERS - After battling the Lake Jyun warrior (reaverbot boss)

HELP THE INSPECTOR; FIND THE MISSING BAG OF MONEY - After battling the Lake Jyun warrior (reaverbot boss)

HELP IRA - After going to Clozer Woods, but before using the ID Cards

HELP FRUIT AND VEGETABLE STAND MAN'S PREGNANT WIFE - After battling the Pirates and their flying ships
