Hey, here's a message just for my cousin Justin Combs. Part of the reason I don't have anything up for Rainbow Six yet is because I have not been able to play the game all the way through yet. I am stuck on mission thirteen, the one where you have to sneak in to an office, download files from a computer, then escape, all (and here's the big catch) WITHOUT BEING DETECTED. Which means you can't shoot any guards; you can't be seen by any guards; you can't shoot any of the surveillance equipment (like video cameras); you can't even breathe without permission (ok that last one is a slight exaggeration). Anyway, here's the scoop on what I can do so far. It is imperative that you have the heartbeat monitors for everyone so when you access the map you can see where everyone is located. I bring GUY ONE up to the first floor (you start in something like a basement stairwell) and into a side room where there is an alarm in the floor and a meditation room to hide in. I switch to GUY TWO and bring him up and down a side hallway, into a bathroom (be careful of the guard down the hallway to the right) and close the door. Then switch back to GUY ONE, set off the alarm and hide in the meditation room. This brings two guards to check the room. One comes from the area of the problem stairs and another is the guard GUY TWO in the bathroom was being cautious of. Switch to GUY TWO. After the guard is completely past the bathroom and into the room with GUY ONE , open the bathroom door and exit. Turn left and open the next set of doors. Enter this room and turn right. Open the next set of doors and enter a room with a long table. Stay to the left of the table (there is an alarm on the right side of the room) and get to the next set of doors. Open them and go left. When you get to the next doorway stop, use L1 and L2 together to zoom, then look up until you see the first of several video cameras (One of the guards returns behind you but he doesn't actually come to where you are, he just stays at the end of the hall - this is the same guard you avoid when entering the bathroom). Anyway wait until the camera is almost facing the wall you are facing. Then unzoom (maybe aim back down a little so you can see where you are going), use X button to crouch and enter the room. Turn immediately right and go to the door on your right and enter (note: if you happen to set the alarm off you can hide behind this door - it may be a glitch but if you get in the cubbyhole behind the door just right the guards that enter can't see you, turn off the alarm and leave). I call this the library because it is just another hall with bookshelves. Edge your way carefully to the end. When you can see the stairs around a corner proceed with caution. As you come around this corner there is another video camera in the opposite corner of the next room. It covers the doorway and stairway with amazing efficiency. I often set the alarm off here, but if you do it just right you can avoid setting off the alarm. When you round that last corner, use your zoom and aim towards that opposite corner I was telling you about. Use O button and strafe slowly right a bit at a time until you can barely see the camera. Time it so that you unzoom, aim down and go towards the stair just as the camera is turned about halfway. Stay to the wall opposite the wall/stair rail, give the camera a few more seconds to finish sweeping the stairway and point all the way into the room then dash the rest of the way up the stairs, staying close to this wall so the camera won't detect you. It is tricky to do and even more difficult to explain but when you get the timing right you can avoid the camera every time. When you get upstairs enter the room on your right (shut the door behind you if you have accidentally set off the alarm - you may want to shut it anyway to avoid unexpected encounters with a randomly curious guard from a hallway around the corner). You are about to come upon the last camera (that I know of). Go to the next door and cautiously peer into the back corner. Use your zoom to help you see a camera in the opposite back corner of the next room (it will see you if you blindly go into the room or worse just stand full in the doorway).
NOTE: I got caught up on this area for a VERY LONG time before I realized there was a camera in this room. After I realized there was a camera in this room I discovered the one you get to first in the room downstairs and then found the one guarding the stairway. This made things considerably easier and allowed me to FINALLY reach my first destination and achieve the first objective for this mission.
Back to the mission, wait until the camera is pointing most to all the way left, then crouch, stay to the right, and go into the room. Hug the wall and get behind the desk or whatever is along the wall. Look up and you can see the camera. When it points left again (or if it still is) get to the corner the camera is in, then when it points to the door you entered the room from, continue hugging the wall to your right and get to the door on the right. Whew, it took me a while to get that routine down pat. Before I always set off the alarm because I didn't know about the camera and got caught by a guy in the room you are now in. Now go to the doorway go all the way to the wall and turn left (caution there is another alarm plate in the floor right smack in the middle of the hall). See the door ahead of you, that is your destination. Get inside the door without stepping on the alarm plate, then go right and enter the next door (I usually close these two doors behind me to avoid those curious guards). Anyway in the last room is the computer you must hack into. No trick there just point at the computer on the desk, hit L1 and O button I think, then wait for the computer to be hacked. Now comes the part I can't quite do. You have to go back the same way you just came. There are several problems, so I'll list them in the order they come. First, it's a LOT harder to get past the plate in the hallway. Once you get past that, the first camera you come to is trickier. Often when you peek around the doorway it sees you if you go in too far and sets off the alarm. Boom you're caught. Once you can make it through this section, the stairway gets you. First there is the curious guard from around the corner who likes to sneak up on you as you come out the doorway to the stairs area. As if this wasn't bad enough, the last time I was slowly peeking around the door leading to the stairway, being cautious so I could try to see and so avoid the camera when I caught a glimpse of one of the first floor guards, ON THE STAIRWAY AND ALMOST ON THE SECOND FLOOR LANDING!! Ok, to remedy this, I bring GUY THREE from all the way in the basement, go through the same process I did to get GUY TWO to the base of the stairs. This usually brings the guys from the stairs back into the room at the bottom of the stairs. The problem is then I have to get GUY THREE back without setting off the alarm in the room with the first camera (is this getting confusing or what). Ok, so I get him out of the room, but then I can't get him past the guard in this hallway (the same one you avoid way back getting into the bathroom, only this time you come up behind him). If I switch to GUY ONE to set off the alarm and distract the guy in the hall, the mission automatically fails (why I have no idea). I have thought about distracting that guy before I try to make it through the room with the first camera but then I have to make it through the room too quick, end up setting off the alarm, then I have to start all over again getting the guards away from the stairs and … it gives me a headache just thinking about it. Right now, what it seems like I have to do (aside from hope there is no one on the stairs when I get there) is distract the guard in the hall with GUY ONE, carefully get through the room with GUY THREE without setting off the alarm AND get back to the dining room, maybe even the bathroom before the alarm GUY ONE sets off quits and lets the guard return. Then I think I would have to do the same thing with GUY TWO. I'm not sure how far back I have to go before the mission is over. It could be I just have to get to the stairs with GUY TWO but I haven't explored that possibility yet either. Justin, I hope you can make some heads or tails about this and help me out with a possible suggestion (no cheating by looking for a cheat site on the internet, I want to try and figure this out on my own so to speak if I can, by not looking at what someone else has already figured out - it makes my solution genuine so that someone can't say they came up with it first). UPDATE - OK, I never said I was the brightest bulb in the pack. Forget going back the way you came, just take a shortcut and jump down over the ledge before you reach the room with the first camera on your way back (the third camera on your way up). You'll take some damage but save yourself a LOT of headaches. NOTE: you may not want to use Chavez for this mission as I normally do (but will not do so in the future) so he won't take damage. I may try using one of the lesser used commandoes.
