FINAL FANTASY VII - Fort Condor
ON THE FIELD; BASIC CONTROLS
If you talk to the battered warrior (the old man's son) in the tower, he gives you the following instructions:
Move the cursor wherever the X mark does not appear, then press the O-button to set up. After all positions are in place, select by pressing the X-button. This starts the battle. Soldiers can only be arranged near the shed, in the beginning. That's because if the soldiers are too far away, they won't be able to follow instructions. You can only put soldiers on the horizontal line at the very bottom. Soldiers can be instructed by pushing the select button. So if any commands are unclear, push it. Soldiers can report by pressing the O-button. The cursor will move to the soldier who made the report. Press the X-button and you'll hear the report without moving.
This is a little unclear so I offer you the following explanations:
Preparing the Defense
To set units, move the cursor (the pointing hand) where you want to set a unit. Note that you can't set a unit if there is a red "X" on the cursor. If you try you will get a red horizontal line - you must set all units above the red line (if you can't see it you must move the cursor up or down until you can). Press O-button to bring up a circular menu of units to choose from. Use directional button to pick from the Mobile ally types (Fighter, Attacker, Defender, Shooter, Repairer or Worker) or Immobile ally types (Stoner, Catapult, or when available the Tristoner or Fire Catapult). When the unit you want is selected, press O-button again to place it. For the immobile ally types you will also have to select the direction you want it to face and press O-button one last time. Also note that if you change your mind you can press X-button to cancel your selection. Once you have all the units you want in place (see tips below), press the X-button and then select yes to begin the battle.
During the Battle
Press O-button (above the red line and where there is not a red "X" on the cursor) to set up additional units when and where needed. Start to pause, R1 or R2 to raise event speed, L1 or L2 to lower event speed. Select button brings up a menu showing what each button on the controller does during battle. To attack an enemy, put the cursor on the ally you want to do the attacking, press O-button then move it to the enemy you want to attack (the word "attack" will appear) and press O-button again. When an ally reports (for example, when he encounters an enemy, destroys an enemy, or arrives at a destination) press O-button to go where the action is, or simply press X-button to stay where you are at and continue what you are doing. To move an ally, put the cursor on the ally you want to move and press the O-button. Move the cursor to the ally's destination (i.e. where you want him to move to - note the word "move" appears by the cursor) and press O-button again. Similarly, you can change the direction a stoner or catapult is firing. Put the cursor on the immobile ally in question, press O-button, change the direction where you want, and press O-button again.
