FINAL FANTASY VII - Fort Condor
ON THE FIELD; BATTLE TIPS AND OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION
TIPS:
1) Set up the units so they guard the three (or four depending on how you look at it) main approaches
2) Set up stoners and catapults to protect each other and nearby troops.
3) Set up one or more repairers close to the action but behind the defenses. When someone gets low on HP, send them to the repairer. Have them stop close to the Repairer, then move the arrow over the repairer and press "O", then move arrow to the ally that is low on HP and select "repair." Likewise you can fix a catapult or stoner.
4) Set up two troops together to double up on attacks, as well as allow you to shift the ally with the highest HP to the front
5) To double up on the attacks, you need to be alert. When an enemy is encountered, sometimes only the ally in front will attack. To get the one in back to attack, move the cursor over the pair of allies, select the ally in back who is not attacking, and use the instructions above in basic controls, during the battle to have him attack the enemy in question.
6) A typical defense would go something like this: on the far left just above the red line set up a stoner (tristoner when available), and just behind or beside it (as close as you can get it) set up a catapult (fire catapult when available) to hit the ground in front of the stoner. Do the same on the far right, then in the middle set up one defense like this between the two approaches (i.e. in front of the boulder in the middle where there is the third and fourth paths on either side). Now set up the best combination of soldiers for the battle (i.e. for the first battle, attackers are recommended, so I combine attackers with defenders) two at a time (for the first battle I set up an attacker and defender on the left, same for the right and in the middle). Keep them close to the front of the stoner/catapult defense (you may have to move the troops in position after the battle starts or put the troops on the field after the battle starts - before the battle you can set the troops wherever it will allow you to). Setting up your defense like this allows the stoner and catapult to protect the troops and each other, and allows the troops to protect the stoner and catapult and double up attacks on the enemy troops.
7) At the end, when only the commander is left, gang up all the allies you have left (heed the advice below if someone is low on HP) in the middle close to the stoner/catapult defense. When the commander gets in range, have all the allies attack at once to finish the commander off quickly.
After a battle, you get back 200 Gil for every ally you have left. Keep this in mind when one of your allies gets low on HP. It could be more economical to move him well out of harms way and place a new ally (this way you get 400 Gil back) instead of allowing him to be killed before you place another ally (you spend the same amount of Gil but will only get 200 back). The defenders of Fort Condor start out with 15,000 Gil. Each battle that occurs when you are not there costs them 3,000 Gil. You can contribute in amounts of 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, or 5000. I try to donate 3000 after each visit. I also wait until after the battle to be sure I have enough. Don't forget to save before entering Fort Condor (or use the Save Point in the nap room) each time. This way you can experiment and develop your own strategies.
