FINAL FANTASY VII KALM TRAVELLER

After the Jenova reunion and the botched execution, you can look around the world for things that have changed while you are searching for Cloud. One of the main things that has changed is in Kalm. Remember the first little town you came to after leaving Midgar and coming to the world map? Yup that's it. Go to the last residence to the right. The lady downstairs speaks of meteor. Go upstairs and you can talk to the man who in previous visits was content with the world. Now he talks about how the world is changing and now he wants to go on a journey. He doesn't really come right out and ask, but he gives you three hints:
1) A map that was sunk along with the ship ... "Guidebook"
2) A rose that blooms once every 1000 years in the desert ... "Desert Rose"
3) A harp that soothes those who hear it ... "Earth Harp"
He asks if anyone will bring these to him. Guess he wants these before he begins his journey, which for you means another sidequest (but a great one if you are up to the challenge).

HINT ONE/QUEST ONE

A map that was sunk along with the ship ... "Guidebook." The best hint here is that a map was SUNK ALONG WITH THE SHIP. Don't read too much into it though. You don't actually get into water (such as in the submarine) although you do get awful close to it. If you paid careful attention during your quest to the Underwater Reactor to get the Huge Materia, you may have got in a battle with an enemy called Ghost Ship while you were in the underwater tunnel. Closer inpection will reveal that it actually morphs into an item ... "Guidebook."

HINT TWO/QUEST TWO

A rose that blooms once every 1000 years in the desert ... "Desert Rose." Now even though you get this clue in Disc Two you can't actually do anything about it until Disc Three when the Ruby Weapon appears in the DESERT around the Gold Saucer. To get the "Desert Rose" you must first defeat the Ruby Weapon. Check out the bosses section or the Five Weapons Section to see tips on how to defeat this monstrosity.

HINT THREE/QUEST THREE

A harp that soothes those who hear it ... "Earth Harp." Now this one is completely kooky in hindsight. You would think an "Earth Harp" would be found ... you know, on the Earth. Nothing could be further from the reality though. In order to get the "Earth Harp" you must defeat the Emerald Weapon, the one swimming around under the ocean. Check out the bosses section or the Five Weapons Section to see tips on how to defeat this boss.

YOUR REWARD

Take the "Guidebook" to the Kalm Traveller, give it to him and he will give you Underwater Materia. This is a really useful materia as it will allow you to breathe underwater which gets rid of the 20-minute timer when you battle Emerald Weapon.

Take the "Desert Rose" to the Kalm Traveller and you will get a most awesome prize - a Gold Chocobo. At one time I thought this was the most wonderful prize there was - it allowed me to go accross the ocean and get the Knights of Round materia. Don't get me wrong, finally getting the Knights of Round materia was truly awesome. But then I tried to race the Chocobo; his stats were awful so I lost - a lot. Then I tried my hand at breeding and found that it was much easier to breed a gold chocobo that could win in S-rank races and take me to get the aforementioned materia than it was to defeat the Ruby weapon or Emerald weapon with Bahamut Zero as my most powerful summon materia (actually I defeated Emerald weapon with Bahamut Zero as my most powerful summon materia and traded the Earth Harp for the master materias which allowed me to defeat Ruby weapon by using Knights of Round to get the desert rose and trade it for the gold chocobo to go get the KOR materia). Defeating Emerald and Ruby Weapon is still a valuable thing though as you get 50,000 experience, 50,000 gil, and 50,000 AP points for Emerald Weapon and 45,000 experience, 30,000 gil, and 50,000 AP points for Ruby Weapon . To make the most of this try to defeat them using double and triple growth weapons and armor and maybe experience plus and/or gil plus materias equipped

Take the "Earth Harp" to the Kalm Traveller and he will give you one each of the three different types of Master Materia; master magic, master summon and master command. If you did not get all the huge materia before so you could create your own master materia, these will show you just what you are missing. You'll be hitting the reset button and going back to get all the huge materias.
