Final Fantasy VII Tips and Strategies
WHOOOPS!!!! With so many games and so little time I was bound to get behind. Here's what I have so far. Got a question, some information to share, or anything else at all you can still email me. Just use the link at the bottom of this page. Thanks for your patience and good luck :-)
- Talk to people whenever you can to get tips as well as important and useful information (for example, when you talk to someone, if they slip you a hint about your next destination, it will appear in the dialogue box as blue text).
- Make sure you talk to people MORE THAN ONCE! Most people have more than one thing to say. Just keep talking to them until they repeat the same phrase over and over or until they repeat the information.
- Save often - you never know when you will make a wrong turn or heaven forbid the power goes off.
- Explore all areas thoroughly to find any hidden or secret items, materia, etc.
- Use your regular attacks most often and try to save your magic attacks for the boss battles, especially early on in the game.
- Level up early to make future battles easier to handle.
- Take advantage of Inns, especially places you can sleep for free.
- Take advantage of the shops to buy up any items you need.
- Remember, battles are an important source of items, experience, and especially AP.
- Speaking of items, keep your eyes open for treasures scattered throughout the Final Fantasy VII landscape. Watch for treasure chests, bags of varying colors, and materia that will look like large colored marbles (most of them will sparkle or flash at you too with just a few exceptions).
- Take advantage of areas where you can fight battles to level up or get useful items and has a place close by where you can sleep for free or cheap to restore yourself.
- On the world map, create a new save before entering a new town (kind of like a restore point in case something unforeseen goes wrong)

- Try different materia combinations to see what works best for you.
- Equip weapons, armor, accessories and materia as they become available, especially early in the game. Later, when you start finding double and triple growth weapons and you can get Rune armlets, try to keep those equipped throughout as much of the rest of the game as possible.
- Early on keep your materia slots filled to gain extra AP on materia (even if you don't use it).
- Continuing to build on this, take advantage of the double and especially triple growth weapons as they become available. My personal favorites are Cid's Javelin (5 double growth slots, 4 linked), Cloud's Apocalypse (three unconnected triple growth slots), and Barrett's Drill Arm (4 unconnected double growth slots).
- Your ultimate goal with the two previous tips will be to try to get as much mastered materia as possible, especially command, magic and summon materia as later in the game you can use them to get master magic, master command, or master summon materia. In addition you can sell off unneeded mastered materia for big money (a mastered All brings in a whopping 1,400,000 gil).
- Take advantage of my other sections to explore any facets of the game you may have overlooked.
