Know what you are doing before you RP

FAQ and Terms

Role-Playing isn't the easiest thing in the world, yet it isn't very hard to learn either. However, before you start, make sure you look through this website thoroughly before you begin on your journeys in role-playing.

1) What is an RPG? What is Role-Play?

An RPG is a short abbreviation for the term, "Role-Playing-Game." A Role-Playing Game is when you control any character of your choice and play as that character. When you play as that character, it is known as Role-Play, or RP.

2) What character do I choose to RP as?

You can choose any character you want. It can be Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or any other character in the Sonic world. If you do not wish to RP as any character that is known in the Sonic world, you can even make up a character, as long as it is eligible to be in the Sonic world.

3) I want to RP as a known character in the Sonic RP world, like Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. Is there anything I need to know about these characters before I RP as them?

Yes, there is. For instance, let's say you want to RP as Knuckles. Knuckles is a red echidna who guards his floating island and hangs with his friends, the Chaotix. He is rather bad tempered, although he is loyal to the good cause of rebelling against the evil Dr Robotnik. He can dig with his clawed gloves, run at a decent speed, and glide with his dreadlocks. If you wish to RP as Knuckles, you have to make sure your character follows the same personality and description as him. Otherwise, if you don't, then your character is not successful. Unsuccessful characters in the Sonic RP world are usually ignored, and/or considered as "newbies" or "moders."

4) I want to make up my own character to RP. What do I need to know before I RP as my character?

First, make sure your character is eligible to RP in the Sonic world. Eligible Rpers have to be a "furry"(in other words, an Anthropomorphic animal) or an Overlander; they must have limited powers and they cannot be invincible or immortal. Their height must not exceed 6 feet, and their weight must not exceed 150 lbs. if they are a Mobian (unless your character is a pachyderm or any other extremely large animal). If your character is an Overlander, their height and weight must be decent enough to be reasonable for a human.

5) Any tips or advice on creating my "furry" character?

If you're looking for tips or advice on creating a character, then you've come to the right place! First off, you must choose a species. Being a mammal is highly recommended, as they are the most humanlike. Many made-up characters are hedgehogs, foxes, echidnas, wolves, and squirrels. These species are idealistic to role-play, as they have many special abilities. Secondly, once you've chosen your character's species, you must choose what color your character's fur is. Don't worry if your character has an unnatural fur color! Sonic's fur is blue, although real hedgehogs aren't blue. Knuckles' fur is red, although echidnas aren't red. Even Amy Rose, a hedgehog, has fur the color of pink! As you can see, you can choose just about any color. Once you've chosen a fur color for your character, you must choose eye-color. Once again, you don't have to worry if the eye color is unnatural. After choosing the eye-color, here comes the fun part: your character's attire! Attire, actually, is optional, as furries do not have to wear clothing. Now for the fifth part: choosing your character's abilities. Remember, your character must have limited abilities. He or she cannot do absolutely anything. Usually the maximum amount of abilities is four or five. Choose four or five abilities for your character, for example flying, running at high speed, swordsmanship, archery, or martial arts. Sorcery, which used to be an ability anyone can choose, is not allowed anymore, for certain reasons, unfortunately. Now, last, but not the least, you mush choose a name for your character! Choosing a name isn't hard at all, you can choose anything you want, as long as it is reasonable (for instance, I wouldn't recommend your vicious wolverine furry to be named "Muffin." ^_^;;).

6) Any tips on or advice on creating my Overlander character?

Currently, there are no Overlander characters in the Sonic RP world. As a result, RPing as an Overlander is no longer recommended.

7) OK, I made my character. How do I RP as him/her?

First, find a chatroom that supports a Sonic RPG. Enter that chatroom. Try to notice the things people are saying. Try to be friendly with them, and explain that you are a newcomer to RPing. Remember, whenever you talk, you must use double parantheses…

((This is an example of using double parentheses.))

8) I've explained it to them already. I think I'm ready to RP! How do I start?

Whenever you begin to RP, you must make an entrance. An entrance is something that you perform that indicates that you have entered the RPG world and you're RPing. When you do an entrance, you must use double colon. A double colon entrance is always done according to the third person. Here is an example of Sonic the Hedgehog entering.

::a blue blur of light passes by the other Mobians as it is followed by a gust of breeze. As the blur slows down by the chilidog stand, it comes to an abrupt stop. The figure standing is the well-known hedgehog, the fastest dude in the west: Sonic the Hedgehog!::

Here is an example of Miles "Tails" Prower entering:

::he flies in; his two orange tails propelling him like rotors of a helicopter. With his jet anklets glimmering in the sun, he thrusts forward towards the ground, making a soft landing. As his three bangs drift in the wind, it is obvious that Tails has entered the area::

9) I see people using the double colons quite frequently…what are they doing exactly?

The double colon is used for an action. For instance, let us say that you want your character to walk up to a tree. In order to indicate that your character is doing this, you write:

::walks up to a tree::

The action is always used according to the third person. If you do not use the double colons, it will appear as if your character is talking nonsense.

10) I want to attack another character! Are there rules about fighting with other characters?

Yes, there are many. Check the "rules of Role-play" for detail, or you can read the upcoming passage. You must make sure your character is able to do the attack that you are performing. If not, then the attack won't be made. If someone else attacked your character, you must indicate that your character got hit.

11) Uh-oh!! IRL I have to go to the bathroom, but I can't stop in the middle of Role-playing! What'll I do?

Simple! Just indicate in double parentheses that you will be right back, or that you are away from the computer. Remember that once you're back, you must indicate that you are back.

12) Ooh! I think my character has fallen in love with another!! Hehe!

Well, as long as you don't act too mushy in the RPG, no one will mind that much. Remember that no one wants to see a couple doing any "inappropriate" stuff, so don't ruin the RPG for everyone.

Well, that's that! Remember, the REAL key to RP is experience, experience, experience!!

Don't forget that when you're not role-playing and when you want to make a statement, you must use double parentheses.

Good luck!
