Iron men and giants
The age of the lace wars and in particular the Seven years war in Europe has always seemed to me the ideal era for wargaming. It's regimented style of linear warfare and semi professional armies lends itself to the application of simple rules and stylisations. I avoided the period for many years because its ornate uniforms deterred my enthusiasm . I had neither the time nor he inclination to paint hordes of figures and small actions did not interest me. When I discovered hair curler armies I realised the time was right. My first armies used rules by Andy Callan & Jim Wallman and I adapted them for a table top computer aid that kept me happy for several years. Later I re-based the lot to play the experimental "Horse, Foot & Guns" set by Phil Barker. They give a fast relatively relaxed game and allow major battles to be played. These are a selection of photographs taken whilst play testing the rules . They show a linear engagement between Hessian and Brunswick allies under assault by French and foreign brigades in Western Germany. Both sides having supporting cavalry.
Subsequent to this I have once again rebased the whole collection to match my acw bases and the terrain boards I have built. Below you can see the results of my efforts . i really like them now and feel they give a real impression of mass and the feel of commanding a large force..
THE ALLIES
