Cruiserweight James Salerno (#3) wins a unanimous decision over Donnell Wingfield (UR) in 8. Salerno has a good round 1, but Wingfield lands a great right hand halfway into round 2 that has Salerno retreating. Wingfield blasts right hands until the end of the round. Wingfield continues to have his way until round 4, when Salerno goes inside to good effect. Salerno continues to dart in and out, landing then vanishing in the later rounds. Wingfield lands a huge flush right hand in the final round, but Salerno shakes it off to preserve the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight David Telesco (UR) makes short work of Billy Grant (UR), scoring a 3rd round knockout. Telesco really finds a rythym in round 2, landing punch after punch on the suddenly timid Grant. The pair trade at ring center in round 3 for about 30 seconds when Telesco launches a hook to the top of Grant's head that knocks him back into the corner. Telesco opens with a huge salvo of punches that culminates with a right hand to the temple that drops Grant for the count with 5 seconds left in the round. Cruiserweight rookie Booker T Word (UR) wins a split decision over fellow rookie Jimmy Gradson (UR) in 4. The first two rounds are entertaining, but too close to call. Early in round 3 Word lands an overhand right that has Gradson in trouble and covering up. Word dominates the final frame and takes the split decision. In a battle of light heavyweight rookies, Willie Featherstone (UR) wins a split decision over Bomani Parker (UR) in 4. Featherstone shows complete mastery until Parker lands one hell of a left hook that floors Featherstone 40 seconds into round 3. Willie gets up at 7, and Parker lands a couple more shots inside but Featherstone escapes. Willie recovers to blast Parker with a tooth-rattling right hand, and Parker takes a pounding on the ropes in the follow up. Featherstone barely gets the split decision nod.

EBC - Coliseum Arena - New Orleans, LA
HWCleveland Williams (#1, 8-1-1, 8KO) TKO5 Paul Cavalier (#5, 4-3-1, 3KO)
LHWBert Gilroy (UR, 1-0-0, 1KO) KO9 Nathan Logan (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

CWCarlos Cruzat (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Bashir Wadud (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

Top heavyweight contender Cleveland Williams (#1) scores a brutal TKO over tough Paul Cavalier (#5), who never goes down, in 5 chaotic rounds. Cavalier shows excellent ring generalship early, manuvering Williams into a corner and blasting to the body in round 1. The fight is fairly even until round 4 when Williams staggers Paul with a nasty right hand. Cavalier holds and runs, but Cleve rocks him again as the round ends. Williams catches Cavalier with a beautiful uppercut early in the 5th, and Cavalier drunkenly staggers to the ropes. Williams winds up the right hand over and over, until suddenly Cavalier hammers Cleve with a great counter shot. Williams does a little stutter step, then shakes it off to deliver a devastating right cross that stands Cavalier straight up. Williams blasts 2 more right hands in when the fight is stopped for Cavalier's safety with 1 second left in round 5. Williams solidifies his hold on the top contender's spot and he calls out champion Zora Folley in the post fight press conference, while Cavalier tumbles into the clubfighter circuit. Light heavyweight Bert Gilroy (UR) scores a 9th round knockout of overmatched Nathan Logan (UR) in what turns out to be a no-holds-barred rumble. Gilroy comes in bone dry, and Logan lands some nice shots in the 1st as Bert gets warmed up. Gilroy rocks Logan in round 2, but Logan fights back hard to score a flash knockdown as the 3rd round ends. Gilroy recovers well to score with powerful right hands in the middle rounds, and Logan can't do anything but cover up and hold. Gilroy drops him for a 7 count in round 6, and Logan refuses to throw a punch. Gilroy continues to have his way until he finally drops Logan with a right cross in round 9, and Logan is counted out after the bell. In a battle of light heavyweight rookies, Eddie Spence (UR) wins a unanimous decision over betting favorite Vonzell Johnson (UR) in 8 rounds. The opening rounds are too close to call. Johnson staggers Spence early in the 3rd and he opens up. Spence fights back hard at the end of the round, and he causes a cut near Johnson's eye. Spence stuns Johnson in round 5, and he reopens Johnson's cut eye with a sharp jab. Johnson wilts after that and Spence outhustles him down the stretch to take the upset unanimous decision. Cruiserweight rookie Carlos Cruzat (UR) wins a majority decision over fellow rookie Bashir Wadud (UR) in 8 rounds. Cruzat shows his dominance by round 2, hammering Wadud with power punches. The fight gets ugly from there, with both fighters working and fouling on the inside. Cruzat is warned for a low blow in the 5th, and Wadud shrivels after the southbound punch, never again thinking of offense in the fight. Cruzat almost floors him with a straight right hand in round 7. Wadud stuns Cruzat with a right cross early in the 8th, but he gets careless and Cruzat sizzles a left hook counter that drops Wadud for a 7 count. It's the topper on a majority decision victory for Cruzat. The British judge called it a draw, apparently not appreciating Cruzat's liberal interpretation of the rulebook.

EBC - Okayama Budokan Hall - Tokyo, Japan
HWTommy Martin (#20, 6-1-0, 3KO) TKO5 Anthony Thompson (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
LHWEric Harding (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Vedat Akova (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
LHWJoe Knight (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Martin Barnard (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
LHWFrank Tate (UR, 0-0-1, 0KO) D8 Vittorio Livan (UR, 0-0-1, 0KO)

Comebacking heavyweight Tommy Martin (#20) scores a convincing 5th round TKO of rookie Anthony Thompson (UR). The early action is very even, though Thompson stuns Martin early in the 2nd with a lead right from hell. It sets a pattern as Martin is winning the 3rd handily, when Thompson almost floors him with a booming right hand late in the round. Early in round 5 Martin strings together a couple nice right hands, resulting in a cut eye for Thompson. Thompson is completely shaken by the cut and Martin opens up. After absorbing some 20 consecutive power punches, the referee rescues Thompson from further punishment. Light heavyweight rookie Eric Harding (UR) outclasses Vedat Akova (UR), winning a unanimous decision in 8 rounds. Harding is boxing smoothly, when Akova lands a huge right that blasts Harding onto the ropes. Harding recovers quickly and counterpunches Akova off the ropes well. Harding uses his fantastic hand speed to keep Akova at bay in the middle rounds. Harding continues to outwork Akova late, with a combination of slick defense and frequent clinches. Harding takes the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight Joe Knight (UR) wins a one-sided unanimous decision over poor, brave Martin Barnard (UR) in 8. The first punch Knight throws is very low, and costs him a point. Barnard however is so debilitated that Knight just opens up. Barnard scores with a huge counter left early in the 2nd, but Knight just dances away for a few seconds to fully recover. Round 3 is a violent delight when Barnard agains stuns Knight with a counter, then pounds the woozy Knight. Joe starts firing again with a minute left in the round, and this time Barnard wobbles from some nice body work. Standing ovation follows this round. Barnard gets a little cautious in the 4th and Knight scores with several light punches and one wild haymaker that drops Barnard for a 6 count. Martin covers up and Knight whales away at the injured Barnard, and the referee almost stops it as round 5 ends. Knight lands wild right hands at will, and a nasty head butt in round 6. Knight coasts the last 2 rounds, and Barnard lands a couple good punches late. Knight takes the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight Frank Tate (UR) gets robbed with a majority draw over 8 rounds with Italian Vittorio Livan (UR). Tate lands some big shots in the first, but Livan starts moving well and countering with the left in the 2nd. Livan wobbles when Tate lands a thudding combination in the 3rd. Another crisp combination rocks Livan in the 5th, and Tate liberally applies the leather to the stunned and now swelling Italian. After trading at ring center for a full 2 minutes, Tate stuns Livan with a straight right hand and almost puts him down in the follow up. Tate relaxes the final 2 rounds, but it turns out to be a big mistake as unbelievably the fight is scored a majority draw.

LHWHenry Maske (UR, 1-0-0, 1KO) TKO6 Karsten Honhold (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

LHWNicky Piper (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Ron Redrup (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

Headlining a card of light heavyweight rookies, Al Gainer (UR) scores a thrilling knockout of tough Martin Amarillas (UR) in 8 torrid rounds. Gainer outworks Amarillas in round 1, but Martin scores well in the 2nd. Amarillas stuns Gainer in the 4th, but Gainer boxes well to recover. Gainer steps it up late, and Amarillas looks punched out and punched hard. Gainer throws everything he has at Amarillas in the final round, finally dropping him with 24 seconds left in the fight. Amarillas gets up at 8 and immediately goes down from a left hook. Amarillas is counted out with 3 seconds remaining in the fight. In a battle of German light-heavyweight rookies, Henry Maske (UR) scores a cuts TKO in 6 rounds over Karsten Honhold (UR) in a mismatch. It's obvious from the opening bell that Maske is a class above his countryman. Maske effortlessly outboxes Honhold early, and by round 3 Honhold has suffered a bad cut. Maske works on the cut with his rapier jab, and by round 6 the referee has seen enough. Light heavyweight rookie Prince Charles Williams (UR) wins a unanimous decision over poor brave Bull Montana (UR) in 8 brutal rounds. Williams quickly floors Montana with a sweeping uppercut a minute into the fight. Williams opens up, blasting Montana with power punches, and scoring a flash knockdown just as the round ends. Williams continues to dominate early, though he has a point decucted for an imaginary low blow in round 3. Montana is down again in the 5th, but again Williams just can't finish it. Montana cuts Williams with a left hook in round 7, and a suddenly angry Williams floors him for a 7 count with an uppercut. Williams can't seal the deal, but he easily takes the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight rookie Nicky Piper (UR) wins a unanimous decision over fellow rookie Brit Ron Redrup (UR) in an 8 round shoot-out. Redrup starts fast, backing Piper into a corner and whaling away in round 1. Piper takes some good shots but isn't hurt, and he even stings Redrup as the round ends. After an even round 2, Redrup is warned for hitting after the bell. Redrup wins the middle rounds with some ugly, mauling work on the inside. Piper floors Redrup with a nasty left hook in round 5, but Redrup comes back in the 6th, stunning him with an uppercut early in the round. Redrup wobbles Piper as the 7th begins, but Piper throws a desperation right cross that floors Redrup for an 8 count. Redrup meekly covers up as Piper wins the last round, and takes the surprisingly lopsided unanimous decision.

HWGerald Griffith (#19, 5-1-0, 2KO) KO1 Phil Mercurio (#10, 4-3-0, 1KO)
HWGeorge Johnson (#15, 7-3-0, 1KO) L10 Frank Yarchan (#12, 4-2-1, 1KO)

LHWChic Calderwood (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Mosese Sorovi (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

Heavyweight Gerald "Tuffy" Griffith (#19) makes quick work of contender Phil Mercurio (#10), with a first round KO. Griffith works his way inside with hooks to the body, then he goes upstairs with a perfectly place uppercut that knocks Mercurio cold with a minute left in round 1. Heavyweight Frank Yarchan (#12) upsets George Johnson (#15) with a 10 round unanimous decision victory. Johnson underestimates Yarchan and lazily stakes Yarchan to a big scoring lead early. Suddenly Johnson explodes a big uppercut onto Yarchan's chin, and follows with a fusilade of combinations on the suddenly weary Yarchan, who starts to swell on his left eye. Frank staggers Johnson with a body punch in the 6th, and hammers him with some good punches until Johnson lands a booming left hood counter that has Yarchan tottering backwards to the ropes as the bell rings. Then a funny thing happens. Johnson goes to sleep, and Yarchan wins the last 2 rounds with accurate jabbing. Yarchan wins the unanimous decision, and Johnson's stock crashes again. Rookie light-heavyweight Tom Collins (UR) wins a majority decision over Kid Power (UR) in 8. This back and forth slugfest starts fast with Collins landing lead rights. In the 2nd they trade at ring center, and Power wobbles Collins with a nice uppercut. The action is on the inside in the middle rounds, and both fighters foul liberally resulting in more than one warning. Collins outworks the Kid through those rounds and Power is looking deflated by round 7. Defense goes out the window in the last 2 rounds, and Collins lands more accurately than Power to convincingly put the topper on the majority decision. In the opener, light heavyweight rookie Chic Calderwood (UR) wins a majority decision over Moses Sorovi (UR) in 8 rounds. Calderwood catches him with a right hand lead, that drops Sorovi for a 6 count. Calderwood batters him, but Sorovi escapes the round. Moses lands a big right hand on the suddenly overconfident Calderwood, and suddenly the tide has turned. Sorovi continues to enjoy a lot of success through the 4th, and Calderwood looks tired. Calderwood suddenly drops Sorovi with and overhand right, and Sorovi barely beats the count. Calderwood can't finish him, but does some good work down the stretch to take the majority decision.
