Rosco Toles (#12) wins a 10th round TKO over Cyril Whittaker (#11) when Whittaker's eye swells too badly for him to continue. Whittaker lands a couple lead rights, then a huge uppercut that has Toles retreating in the 1st. Toles completely recovers, and starts leading Whittaker around the ring on the end of a snapping jab. Whittaker's eye starts to swell a bit, but Toles is content to peck from the outside. Whittaker's eye starts to look a lot worse when Toles opens a bad gash above it in round 5. Toles continues to work on the eye, but Whittaker gets a desperation haymaker home almost dropping Toles as the 6th round ends. Toles stays well away from Whittaker the rest of the fight, and he sharpshoots the eye into a hideous hematoma and the doctor finally stops it at 1:54 of the 10th. Jimmy Young (#5) wins a unanimous decision over Amos Johnson (#7) in a brilliant display of boxing. The action early is even, but in round 3 Young starts pumping the jab, and the difference in boxing skill becomes evident. Johnson tries to bull his way inside in round 5, but Young makes him pay with his quick counterpunching. Johnson walks through Youngs jab to land some punishing shots in the 7th. Johnson suffers a cut in a tepid final round and Young takes the close unanimous decision, 78-75, 77-76 and 78-75. Irish Tommy Martin (#15) wins a unanimous decision over Tom McMahon (#17) in 8 rounds. After several feeling out rounds, Martin takes command in round 4, stunning McMahon with a nasty uppercut and following with a nice flurry. McMahon has his moments in coming back, but Martin drops him late in round 7. Martin continues the assault in the final round, and he takes the unanimous decision by a wide margin. Sinan Samil Sam (#18) punishes Bert Kenny (#19), taking a unanimous decision in 8 rounds. Kenny has a great 1st round, but Sam brings his power to bear in round 2, blasting Kenny onto the ropes with a right cross. By round 4 Kenny is spent and Sam has no problem battering him around until round 6 when he drops Kenny with an uppercut. Kenny barely hangs on, and he goes down again in the 7th rising with sheer willpower at 9. Sam fires everything he has in the 8th, flooring Kenny again twice, but Kenny courageously stays until the final bell. Sam of course easily takes the unanimous decision.

Gerald Griffith (#14, 2-0-0, 1KO) W8 Danny McAlinden (#13, 1-1-1, 1KO)

Cox Pavillion - Las Vegas, NV - Earnie Shavers (#4) scores a convincing knockout over top contender Paul Cavalier (#1) in 5 rounds. Shavers lands a huge right hand lead 15 seconds into round 1 that rolls Cavalier's eyes back in his head and sends him staggering to the ropes. Shavers follows up big, and Cavalier never really does recover. Cavalier suffers a swelling on his left eye from the battering, and Shavers continues to hammer him with powerful shots. Shavers floors Cavalier for a 4 count early in the 4th, and Shavers batters Cavalier who goes into clinch-for-dear-life mode. Shavers floors Cavalier again late in the 5th, and despite trying mightily he just can't rise before the ref counts him out. Zora Folley (#10) scores a TKO for cuts over Sunny Jim (#9) in 3 rounds. Jim comes into the fight at least 15 pounds heavier than his fight 2 months ago, and Zolley completely outclasses the rotund Canadian. By round 2 Jim has a badly cut eye, making matters even worse. Folley sharpshoots the eye until the doctor stops things at 1:09 of round 3. Contender Cleveland Williams (#3) scores a 5th round TKO over Randall "Tex" Cobb (UR) when Cobb's eye is severely damaged in the fight. Cobb starts slow and Williams takes advantage, landing telegraphed haymakers on the button over and over through the first 3 rounds. Cobb starts to swell under his right eye, and Williams lands pretty much everything he throws at the tough-guy in front of him. Cobb's eye gets worse, and the doctor takes a look late in round 4, allowing the fight to continue. Williams comes out fast in round 5, and bounces several right hands off of Cobb's head, before the doctor stops the fight because of the now gruesome swelling under Cobb's eye. Gerald "Tuffy" Griffith (#14) wins a unanimous decision over Danny McAlinden (#13) in a dramatic slugfest. The bombs fly from the opening bell, but Griffith really puts McAlinden on the run in round 2 after a stunning right cross. An amazing 3rd round sees both fighters hurt, and Griffith starts to swell around his left eye. The eye gets worse, but Griffith has a great 5th round working inside to minimize the effect of being half blind. Griffith drops McAlinden for an 8 count with a counter left hook early in the 6th. The exhausted McAlinden barely makes it to the end of the round. McAlinden has a big rally in round 8, but it's just not enough and Griffith takes the unanimous nod.
