In the best EBC matchup yet, light heavyweight Harry Greb (#2) wins a majority decision over Joe Knight (#1) in 10 rounds. Greb is warned for a low blow in the first minute, and Knight staggers him with a right cross later in the round. Greb does some nice work on the inside in round 2, and Knight eats some hard combinations while trapped in a corner. Knight starts to dance and pump the jab in round 3, to good effect. Greb's swarming attack puts Knight on the defensive in the 4th and 5th rounds, and Greb takes the lead in the scoring. Knight uses some nice footwork while popping the jab, prompting Harry to rabbit punch him drawing another warning in the 6th. The British crowd shows it's disapproval of Greb's liberal interpretation of the rule book. Greb wobbles Knight with a left hook, the shoves him into the corner to pepper Joe's body with hooks. Round 8 is even, but Harry rabbit punches Knight again drawing his 4th foul warning. Knight lands a flush right hand early in round 9, but Greb just takes a step back before resuming his hyperactive workrate. Knight wins the 10th round, but Greb takes the majority decision 98-92, 97-94 and 95-95. Knight protests the constant fouling for which Greb was warned but never penalized. Heavyweight Gerald "Tuffy" Griffiths (#10) scores a 6th round TKO over rookie Tony Cappoletti (UR) in a mismatch. Griffiths completely outguns Cappoletti early, and Tony looks lumpy-faced and tired as early as round 3. Griffiths floors Tony for an 8 count in round 4 with a tremendous body punch. Cappoletti goes down again from a straight right hand, just as the round ends and his swelling eye starts to look a mess. Griffiths continues to work upstairs until Tony's eye is completely closed. After a couple flush right hands late in round 6 the referee stops the contest. Griffith wins his 5th straight. Light heavyweight Lloyd Marshall (#12) wins a unanimous decision over David Telesco (#16) in 10. Marshall lands some good power punches in the first minute, and Telesco backs off, a little gun shy. Marshall floors Telesco with a shot to the liver, but Telesco rises at 8 to soak up a one sided beating the rest of round 2. Marshall relaxes and easily outboxes Telesco who lumbers around the ring trying to catch the elusive ghost in front of him. Telesco wobbles Marshall with a good shot in round 4, but Lloyd covers up well on the follow up. Telesco, encouraged by his success goes all out, but Marshall's sharp counterpunching leaves Telesco punched out with nothing to show for it. Marshall opens up on the exhausted Telesco, and David eats a couple flush right hand leads in round 6. Telesco drops a thudding left hook that sees Marshall go into a defensive shell the rest of round 7. Marshall cautiously outworks Telesco for the final 3 rounds, and he takes the unanimous decision. Heavyweight Reggie Meen (#14) scores an 8th round knockout of Rocky Knight (#12) in a battle of hometown boys. After a feeling out round, Meen takes command by dropping Knight for a 7 count early in round 2 with an uppercut that Knight never even saw. Knight trades with Meen in round 3, and though Meen gets the best of it both fighters wobble. Meen continues to rough Knight up in round 4, but again Knight has a big rally just before the bell. Knight wilts after a viscious body punch in round 5, and Meen wings power punches right down the pipe for the next couple of rounds producing an ugly swelling on Knight's left eye. Knight rallies in the 7th round, but it's a last gasp and Meen drops Knight for the count with a nasty left hook early in round 8.

EBC - Mandalay Bay Casino - Las Vegas, NV
HW(R)Tommy Farr (#2, 11-1-1, 2KO) D12 Amos Johnson (#7, 7-2-1, 2KO)
HWElzear Rioux (#11, 9-2-0, 5KO) TKO10 Danny McAlinden (#9, 3-3-2, 1KO)
LHWEric Harding (#11, 2-1-0, 1KO) KOby1 Bert Gilroy (#8, 2-0-0, 2KO)
HWFrancois Hendrickx (#19, 5-2-1, 2KO) W10 Herb Narvo (#18, 4-3-0, 1KO)

In a high profile rematch, heavyweights Tommy Farr (#2) and Amos Johnson (#7) box to a controversial draw in 12 rounds. Farr boxes so slick early, that Johnson hardly lands a punch until round 3 when he traps Farr in the corner and lands some good straight right hands. Farr continues to dominate with a triphammer jab except for round 5 when Johnson catches Farr with an uppercut that almost puts him down. Johnson lands some good shots, but he doesn't have the firepower to hurt Farr really bad. Farr cautiously works behind that lightning quick jab in the middle rounds, and Johnson has trouble figuring out Farr's tricky angles. Johnson rallies well in the final 3 rounds, and the final scoring is a controversial draw 114-114, 115-113 Johnson, and 116-112 Farr. Heavyweight Elzear Rioux (#11) scores a 10th round TKO over courageous Danny McAlinden (#9). Rioux comes in looking a little light, perhaps overtrained. Rioux catches McAlinden with a pair of vicious left hooks and McAlinden goes down for an 8 count in the very first round. McAlinden slows the pace for the next couple rounds, and Rioux keeps the pressure on. Rioux staggers McAlinden early in round 4, but McAlinden fires back this time and some ferocious action ensues. McAlinden tires by the 5th round, and Rioux steadily beats up Danny through the next several rounds. Danny is a tough Irishman though, and he keeps trying to land. McAlinden actually staggers Rioux in the 8th, but Danny's pourous defense allows Rioux to come back strongly. Rioux floors McAlinden with an overhand right early in the 9th round, but Danny gamely rises at 7. Rioux fires on McAlinden who backs into a corner, and Danny looks very wobbly after soaking up a frightful beating. Rioux staggers Danny again early in the 10, and he soaks up 10 clean shots to the head, before bleeding and swollen McAlinden is finally rescued from his own bravery. Light heavyweight Bert Gilroy (#8) blitzes Eric Harding (#11), scoring a one punch first round knockout. Gilroy eats a couple of jabs, then he shoves Harding into the corner and lands a perfect, clean left hook to the temple. Harding goes down and doesn't even stir until about a minute passes. Heavyweight Francois Hendrickx (#19) wins a unanimous decision over Herb Narvo (#18) in 10 rounds. Hendrickx outworks Narvo early, but everytime Narvo lands a punch Francois wobbles. Round 3 is a wild shootout that sees both fighters nearly go down. Hendrickx starts to swell up on an eye, but he lands a crushing uppercut that floors Narvo for a 3 count. Narvo leaps up but Hendrickx has his way with him the rest of the round. Defense is out the window and the pair trade at ring center in a candidate for round of the year. The action slows to a clinching, mauling pace, and Narvo is penalized a point for a low blow in round 6. Hendrickx goes on vacation in round 7, and Narvo roughs him up on the inside. Hendrickx wakes up and dominates the final rounds, to cement the unanimous decision.

EBC - Pacaembu Stadium - Sao Paolo, Brazil
LHWPrentiss Hall (#6, 1-1-0, 0KO) L10 Charley Horn (#3, 3-0-0, 0KO)
HWGeorge LaRocco (#5, 6-2-2, 3KO) TKO8 Guillermo Lovell (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
HWGunboat Smith (#17, 4-2-0, 0KO) W10 Neil Clisby (#16, 6-4-0, 1KO)
LHWJorge Ahumada (#14, 2-0-0, 1KO) W10 Mel Brown (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

Light heavyweight Charley Horn (#3) wins a unanimous decision over betting favorite Prentiss Hall (#6) in 10 rounds. Both fighters are evenly matched, though Horn's tighter defense gives him a slight edge in the early rounds. Hall lands a great uppercut that has Horn in trouble in round 5, but Horn comes back strong in the 6th. Hall again staggers Horn with an uppercut in round 8, but instead of running Horn trades and both men land some heavy shots. Hall tires in the 9th and Horn puts together a good rally. The final round is even, and Horn takes the unanimous decision 97-94 all around. Heavyweight contender George LaRocco (#5) scores an 8th round TKO over rookie Guillermo Lovell (UR). Lovell stings George in the opening seconds, but he recovers and starts landing heavy punches on the slow-footed Lovell. Lovell looks pretty good for a couple rounds, but he starts to run out of gas in round 4 and LaRocco puts him down for a 9 count when he gets sloppy. LaRocco waits patiently through most of round 5 before digging a hook to the body that drops Lovell for a 3 count late. LaRocco opens up and Lovell shows some eye swelling. LaRocco picks the exhausted Lovell apart with some accurate punching in the middle rounds. LaRocco sustains a bad cut in the 8th, so he opens up until the doctor looks at Lovell's eye. The doctor stops the fight with 14 seconds left in round 8. Heavyweight Gunboat Smith (#17) wins a split decision over Neil Clisby (#16) in a close one. The action is in close early, and Smith seems to do the better work. Early in round 4 Clisby walks Smith down into a corner to land a left hook to the temple that drops Smith for a 7 count. Clisby swarms him with punches as Smith clinches. Smith connects with a head-butt that costs him a point in the round making it a 10-7 round for Clisby. Clisby again stings Smith early in the 5th, but Gunboat fires back wobbling Clisby. The two trade toe-to-toe the rest of the round to tumultuous applause. By round 6 Smith's eye starts to swell up, and Clisby takes target practice while Smith wipes at the eye with his glove. The half-blind Smith lands a big body punch early in the 7th that seems to sap the fight right out of Clisby. Smith hammers him while Clisby absolutely wilts. Smith drops Clisby for an 8 count, more from a cumulative barrage than anything else. Clisby suddenly sprouts a huge mouse under an eye, while Smith's eye looks much better from the corner's frantic work between rounds. Round 9 is dead even, and the final round sees Smith outwork Clisby. The final scorecards read 95-94, 94-95 and 95-94 , a razor close split decision for Smith. Light heavyweight Jorge Ahumada (#14) wins a unanimous decision over rookie slugger Mel Brown (UR) in 10. Both fighters are iron-chinned sluggers, and the big shots start flying right away. Brown soon gains the upper hand, stunning Ahumada with a flush right hand in round 2. Ahumada slows the action when he sees he can't match Brown's power, clinching and countering. Early in round 5, Brown lands a ferocious left hook that sends Ahumada tottering across the ring on rubbery legs. Brown fires and fires but misses most of his sweeping hooks until the end of the round. Ahumada scores with his own powerful left hook early in the 6th, and Brown responds with a blatant intentional head butt when Ahumada pursues him into the corner. Ahumada begins to swell on his left eye from the powerful shots. Brown staggers Jorge again in the 8th round, and Ahumada's eye starts to get ugly. Ahumada goes all out the final 2 rounds, fearing a stoppage for his eye, but it goes to the scorecards with Ahumada winning by a surprisingly wide margin on one card, 99-93, 96-95, 96-94.
