Harry Greb (#2) wins the vacant EBC middleweight championship with a unanimous decision over James Toney (#1) to avenge Greb's only defeat. After a slow start, both fighters come alive in the last 30 seconds of round 1, each landing hard shots. Greb has Toney in trouble suddenly when he lands an upstairs-downstairs combination that staggers Toney. Greb charges in at the end of the round, and Toney lands a devastating head butt at the bell. In round 3 again some awesome action erupts in the final 30 seconds and each man almost goes down. Niether man slows up in the 4th, and the razor close action electrifies the fans with each landing hard power punches. Toney slows down a bit in the 5th, but Greb keeps coming and he stagger James at the end of the round. By round 7 James looks gassed and Greb takes the aggressor's role. Toney suddenly goes for the home run in round 8, and he rocks Greb with some hard right hands. Greb comes back strong in the 9th, catching Toney with 2 power shots to the noggin that wobble James badly. Greb gets his 8th or 9th warning for fouls in the 10th, and he swarms in on the exhausted Toney. James racks up his 5th warning for fouls in the 11th, and he comes forward behind nasty hooks while Greb holds. In round 13 Greb is warned for a questionable low blow, so he furiously works Toney's body until James goes down for a 9 count, the first knockdown of Toney's career. Toney slows the action as his left eye swells a bit in the 14th, while Greb carefully stalks Toney figuring he has a big lead on the cards now. Toney tries his best in the final round but Greb takes the unanimous decision by a wide margin. Greb becomes the first EBC middleweight champion by avenging his only loss as a pro to Toney just 2 months ago. Heavyweight Mike Schreck (#7) wins a late cuts TKO over hometowner George LaRocco (#22) in round 10 of their contest. LaRocco looks fat coming in and at the bell the southpaw Schreck does his usual charge in with a lead left that staggers LaRocco. George pulls it together and keeps Schreck at bay with his excellent jab until the end of round 1. Schreck wobbles George with a clean left hook in round 4, and LaRocco looks a bit winded. Schreck hurts him again with a hard right cross that cuts LaRocco on an eyelid in round 5. LaRocco stuns Mike with a flush right hand early in round 6, and George pins him into a corner while throwing straight right hands. LaRocco leads the next few rounds, and Schreck selectively counters the suddenly aggressive hometown boy. Schreck lands a solid left hook early in the 10th that reopens the ugly cut near George's eye, prompting a visit from the doctor. Schreck wisely targets the eye with 2 more power punches worsening the cut, and prompting the referee to stop it. Light heavy Jorge Ahumada (#6) wins a tight majority decision over Len Hutchins (#12) in 10 rounds. Ahumada comes in looking soft around the middle and, Jorge comes out guns blazing hoping to avoid a long fight. Hutchins is wobbled at the end of the round from a straight right off the top of his head. Both men are warned for using their shoulders in the shoving match in round 2. Hutchins gets the jab going in round 3, and Ahumada patiently waits while eating them. Ahumada lands a huge right land late in the 4th and the momentum swings back to Jorge. Hutchins slows the action but Ahumada wins a couple of rounds staying busier. Ahumada finally nails him in round 8 when a crashing uppercut drops Hutchins for an 8 count. Hutchins gets on his toes and jabs the final 2 rounds, but Ahumada has done enough to take the close majority decision decision. Heavyweight Earnie Shavers (#21) scores a dubious knockout over George Godfrey (#18) in 5 rounds. Even though he's a rookie with one fight engaging in his first EBC bout, Godfrey isn't intimidated by Shavers' power at all, and the pair trade bombs in round 1 with Godfrey almost flooring Shavers with a hook. Halfway through round 2 Godfrey times a body punch to land a crushing left hook counter that floors Shavers who barely beats the count. Godfrey lands a couple shots in the follow up, but Shavers goes into a servicable defensive shell to survive the round. Shavers gets aggressive after the scare, and he stings Godfrey early in the 3rd with a hard uppercut. Earnie takes round 4 by a wide margin landing about 6 crushing power punches that have Godfrey on his heels. Half way through round 5 referee Cortez penalizes Shavers for a low blow, but Godfrey is shaken up and Shavers immediately floors Old Chocolate with a left hook to the body. Godfrey clutches his midsection while he takes the full 10 count. Those in attendance at the old Saint Nick boo Shavers lustily when he leaves the ring.

Light heavyweight champion Joe Knight (Chmp) retains his title with a unanimous decision in 15 rounds over Eric Harding (#1). Harding cautiously jabs while Knight stalks him early. Round 2 has some nice action when both men trade briefly. Harding solidly wins round 3, working his fine jab. Knight aggressively works on the inside in round 4, giving Harding some trouble with his roughhouse tactics. Knight staggers Harding at the end of the 5th, and Eric has no answer. Harding strings together some jabs in the 7th, but he also starts to show a swelling near his left eye. Knight roars forward behind chopping, short power punches that hurt Harding and leave him on the defensive in the 8th. Knight has a nice flurry in the 10th, and Harding doesn't have the firepower to back him off. The action slows late and Knight cautiously piles up points on the tired Harding. Eric lands a right hand lead that staggers Knight early in the 13th, and he throws all he has at Knight, until Joe lands a counter left hook that floors Harding for a 4 count. Harding's eye swells alarmingly and Knight hammers him the rest of the round. Knight keeps shuffling to Harding's blind side to land hard straight shots the final 2 rounds. Knight retains his crown with a unanimous decision 147-139, 145-139 and 146-140. Knight is now clear of his mandatory defense until next April. Heavyweight Cleveland Williams (#10) wins his rematch with Lawrence Carter (#9) winning by TKO in round 5. After a tentative round Williams opens up with the heavy artillery, staggering Carter with a hard right, the a big flurry when Carter retreats to the ropes. Carter seems content to play defense while Williams works him over in the 3rd. Carter lands a couple nice shots to open the 4th, but Cleve responds with a huge shot to the abdomen that floors Carter for a 2 count. Williams opens up but can't finish him before the round ends. Williams drops him again with a smashing right hand in the 5th, but Carter arises at 6. Carter is cut and soon takes a knee for another 2 count, when the referee stops the slaughter at 2:33 of round 5. Williams avenges a surprising loss to Carter 2 months ago. Light heavyweight David Telesco (#2) avenges a disqualification loss in February by winning a unanimous decision over Tommy Dragon (#4) in 10. There is not much action early, with Dragon keeping Telesco at bay with quick hands. Telesco gets Tommy's attention with a hard right hook in the 3rd, and he really roughs Dragon up in the 4th. Telesco stuns him with a perfect right early in the 5th, and Tommy is in trouble throughout the round. Telesco hammers Dragon early in the 7th opening a bad cut on Tommy's mouth. Enraged, Dragon lands a 3 punch combination that rocks Telesco, and he's working David over in the corner at the end of the round. The doctor checks Dragon's cut early in the 8th, adding to Tommy's urgency, but it's Telesco who does the much better work. The 9th round is ugly with each man receiving more than one caution from the referee about borderline tactics. Dragon lands 2 crushing shots that have Telesco in bad trouble early in the final round. Dragon goes all out, but Telesco survives the barrage to win the unanimous decision. Super middleweight Steve Little (#3) wins a majority decision over Robert Stieglitz (#4) in a close 10 rounder. There is a good deal of action early with Little taking the first with his fine jab, and Stieglitz the second with a thudding 3 punch combination that staggers Little. Steve takes command in the 3rd when Stieglitz mysteriously runs out of gas from pursuing the slippery Little. Steve continues to outwork Stieglitz through the middle rounds, though Robert lands the occasional flush right hand. Little tires in the 7th, and Stieglitz finally catches up to him with a nice body attack. The action slows late, but Stieglitz wins a couple rounds to make the scoring close. Steve little wins the majority decision 97-96, 97-96 and 97-97. If Little can win his next fight, he will face Antwun Echols for the vacant title.

In a rematch, EBC Heavyweight champion Tommy Farr (Chmp) retains his title winning a unanimous decision over former champ Jimmy Young (#1) in 15 rounds. Farr starts landing more in the chess match in round 2, and Young mostly just dodges. Each man mounts an attack in the 3rd, and Farr is cut on the eye. Farr stays busier the next several rounds, and the cut is closed, while Young lazily looks for counters. Young reopens Farr's cut in the 6th with an uppercut that Tommy ducks into, but mostly Tommy gets off first. Young starts to get it going in the 9th, and Tommy catches a breather, carefully protecting his eye. Young reopens it again in the 11th and the doctor pays a visit. The action slows a bunch late as each fighter pecks occasionally between clinches. Young lands well again in the 13th and again the doctor takes a look. Young stays more active in the 14th, and 15th but Tommy Farr retains the title by a unanimous score of 146-142, 145-142 and 146-142. In another rematch, cruiserweight Carlos Cruzat (#1) upsets Jean-Marc Mormeck (#2) receiving a gift TKO in round 8 of their contest. Mormeck staggers Carlos in the first 20 seconds, and Cruzat barely survives, clearing his head by the end of the round. Mormeck continues to throw big hooks that wobble Cruzat through the 3rd until he finally drops Carlos with a crisp uppercut. Cruzat rises at 6 but he looks confused. Mormeck tees off in the 4th but the tough Chilean won't go down. Mormeck staggers Cruzat with another hard uppercut in the 5th, but he injures his shoulder, reducing his offensive effectiveness. Cruzat rallies in the 6th, but Mormeck hammers him again in the 7th, trapping him in a corner and lobbing hooks. Then something incredible happens..... Mormeck lands a right to the top of Cruzat's head, and shatters three knuckles in his hand, immediately forcing Mormeck to withdraw in agony. Cruzat wins an unlikely TKO with his rock-hard noggin! Middleweight prospects Tommy Uren (#4) and George Benton (#13) fight to a 10 round draw. Benton lands quick shots to the body early, and he's warned for a borderline low blow in the 2nd. Benton outworks Tommy in the middle rounds, and Uren just doesn't have an answer for Benton's harder punches and slicker defense. Uren has a great rally in the 6th, and he staggers George with a right cross off the top of his head in the 8th. Uren wilts in the 9th, and Benton lands over and over on the exhausted Aussie. Uren recovers to rip a couple big shots in the final round, and the scorecards show a draw 95-95, 96-94 Benton and 96-95 Uren. Heavyweight Hans Kalbfell (#17) scores an 8th round knockout of formerly undefeated prospect Al McCoy (#16). Neither fighter is very aggressive early, but McCoy is a bit more active. Kalbfell does a good job when McCoy moves inside in the 4th, working the body and pushing him around. In round 6 Kalbfell roars out of his corner landing a 6 punch combination that floors McCoy for a 2 count. Al eats a right and one hell of an uppercut before the round ends, but Kalbfell misses a bunch too. Kalbfell nails him with an overhand right in the 7th that staggers McCoy and cuts him on an eye. Early in the 8th Kalbfell lands an overhand right flush and McCoy drops like a house of cards. McCoy cannot rise before the count is 10.

LHWJack O'Brien (#14, 3-1-0, 0KO) W10 Bert Gilroy (#11, 4-3-0, 3KO)

Heavyweight Tommy Martin (#3) avenges his only loss as a pro winning a unanimous decision over Sinan Samil Sam (#6) in 12 action packed rounds. Sam comes out looking fat and slow, perhaps confident he would again knock out Martin, and Tommy uses a quick jab to set up right crosses early on. Round 2 sees some real fireworks when Martin opens up and Sam fires back after almost going down from a right. Sam has a good 4th round when he backs Martin into a corner with a thudding body attack. Sam hurts Martin again in the 5th, but Martin staggers Sam badly in the 6th, blasting away until Sam lands a big right hand that almost puts Martin down at the bell. Sam lands a hard right hand in the 7th, but Martin times the next one to land a huge counter left hook that drops the Turk for a 7 count. Martin lands a couple more straight right hands and Sam's eye shows just a hint of a swelling after the round. Martin wobbles Sam again in the 9th, and Sam looks pretty tired. Martin bangs away late and Sam is too out of shape to punch back allowing Tommy Martin to take the unanimous decision. Top super middleweight contender Antwun Echols (#1) scores a brutal 6 round TKO over Mikkel Kessler (#2) in a rematch of another hard knockout for the overmatched Dane. The early action is very close with each fighter relying on winging hooks in close. In round 3 Echols is doing some nice work when Kessler lands a right hand that staggers Antwun. Echols covers up for a moment, then lands a counter left hook that drops Mikkel for a 6 count as the round ends, also opening an ugly cut near an eye on the Dane. Echols leads the bruising action again in the 4th, and Kessler starts to look gassed. Echols floors him late in the next round with a straight right and the bleeding Kessler barely beats the count. Echols lands one more snapping uppercut as the round ends. Echols floors him in the 6th again and Kessler rises at 8. After about 30 more seconds referee Arthur Mercante Sr stops the bout. Echols is by far the most impressive super middleweight fighting and he may have to wait a while for a qualified challenger to allow him to fight for the vacant title. Heavyweight George Stirling (#11) wins a unanimous decision over Danny McAlinden (#13) in a rematch of their draw in March. Stirling works the body nicely in the 1st, but Danny lands a flush right hand that sends Stirling to the ropes covering up in round 2. Stirling is just hammering McAlinden in the 3rd with triphammer jabs when Danny lands a huge uppercut that floors Stirling for a 7 count. Stirling recovers to reume jabbing Danny to pieces in the 4th. Stirling lands his hardest right hand in the 5th, and Danny feels it, wobbling but staying upright. Danny has a nice flurry in the 6th when Stirling takes a breather. George gets the jab going in the 8th when McAlinden wilts from the steady diet of punches. They trade in the final round, but Stirling takes the split decision. Light heavyweight Philadelphia Jack O'Brien (#14) defeats slugging Bert Gilroy (#11) by a unanimous decision over 10. There is little action early, and Gilroy finally breaks the ice with a hard right hand that staggers O'Brien in the 4th. Gilroy continues to find O'Brien's chin but O'Brien fights back hard late in the 6th after almost going down. O'Brien stays outside in the 7th, and pumps the jab over and over while Gilroy vainly pursues. O'Brien flurries late in round 8 to steal a very even round, and Gilroy looks very tired. O'Brien brings it home late, outboxing Gilroy and clinching when Bert gets too close, and Philadelphia Jack O'Brien takes the unanimous decision.

Heavyweight contender Paul Cavalier (#2) scores a swift, sudden knockout of Larry Middleton (#15) in only 1 round. Middleton smartly outboxes Cavalier, right up until Paul lands a crashing right hand with 2 seconds on the clock that floors the shocked Middleton for the full 10 count. Cavalier, who's never had a title shot, hasn't lost in a year going 9-0-1, 3KO during that span. He's sure to be rated #1 after the Farr versus Young rematch. Paul fought only 11 days ago and is the most active heavy this year. Heavyweight Ed "Gunboat" Smith scores a 7th round TKO over Herb Narvo in an ugly one. Smith hurts Narvo with a hard hook early in the 1st, then lands a devastating head-butt which costs him a point, but slows Narvo down, his head ringing. Smith lands some hard shots in the 2nd, but again has a point deducted from a borderline low blow. Smith floors Narvo with a hard shot to the temple for a 9 count in the 3rd. Narvo takes a beating the rest of the round and his left eye starts to look puffy. Smith lands heavily in the 4th, and he cuts Narvo's other eye badly on the lid. Smith tees off on the mostly blind Australian, but Herb does rock Gunboat with an uppercut in a clinch as the round ends. Smith continues to hammer him in the 5th, and Narvo mostly paws at his damaged eyes. In round 7 Smith floors Narvo for a 5 count with a nasty body shot, then during the follow up referee Mitch Halpern stops the action because of the badly bleeding eye of Narvo. Smith wins again, having suffered his only losses to former champions Folley, Young and present champ Farr. In a disappointing result, cruiserweight Jose Luis Rivera (#5) scores a cuts TKO in the very first round over hard luck Marvin Camel (#3). Rivera comes in looking fat and slow, and Camel punishes him early in the 1st, but suddenly Rivera lands a nasty hook that cuts Camel badly on an eye. The doctor is brought in and the contest is stopped immediately. Cruiserweight Saul Montana (#4) scores a convincing TKO of James Salerno (#6) in a blowout. Montana staggers Salerno with the very first right hand, and he roughs James up until Salerno lands a thudding left hook late in round 1. Montana wobbles him again in round 2 with a straight right hand, and Salerno covers up helplessly the rest of the round. Salerno changes tactics in the 3rd, moving inside with a body attack and meeting with great success until Saul again stuns Salerno with a right hook late in the round. Montana regains the momentum in the 4th, and Salerno looks rocky at the end of the round. Late in round 5 Montana floors Salerno, punctuating a 6 punch combination with a body punch that drops him for a 7 count. Salerno gets up but takes a pounding for about 30 more seconds until referee Conners halts the contest.
