Jimmy Young (#4) wins a majority decision over top contender Cleveland Williams (#1), in 10 rounds. Young counterpunches Williams to pieces early, though Williams lands some power punches in round 2. Young remains elusive, popping 3 shots then sliding away over and over, and Williams starts to look winded by round 4. Williams lands some nice shots finally in round 5, and Young is unable to keep Williams off of him. In round 6 Young returns to his mastery, using his division-best defense to lead Williams around the ring, sapping his energy with clinches and a thudding body attack. Williams catches Young with some nice shots in round 7, but Young lands 3 snappy jabs to every hook, still winning the round. Williams stuns Young early in the 9th, and Young can only cover up on the ropes, taking a pounding. Young boxes brilliantly the final round, and Williams can't lay a glove on him. Young takes the majority decision 97-94, 95-95, 97-93. Zora Folley (#10) wins a unanimous decision over Gunboat Smith (#7) in 10 one sided rounds. Folley counters Smith into shreds early, and a counter left hook drops Smith for an 8 count. Smith slows things down for a while after that, and draws a warning for pushing in round 2. Folley stays outside, keeping Smith off of him with a very accurate jab in the middle rounds. Smith finally starts landing some telling shots in round 6, and then a stunning hook to the jaw, followed by a low blow in the 7th. Smith tires in the 8th, and Folley dances and jabs, then lands some powerful overhand rights late in the round. Folley finishes cautiously, moving and pecking in the final rounds, and the now exhausted Smith can't cut off the ring on Folley. Sinan Samil Sam (#16) scores an impressive knockout in 7 rounds over rookie Angel Sotillo (UR). Sam has his way early, though Sotillo stuns Sam momentarily in round 2. Sam takes the 3rd after wobbling Sotillo with an uppercut, but then Sotillo has a great 4th round, pounding Sam in the corner. Sam drops Sotillo early in the 5th with a counter right hand, and after rising at 6, Sotillo covers up without a thought to punching. Sam continues the assault until finally late in round 7 he drops Sotillo with a double left hook, and Sotillo doesn't rise for a full minute. Larry Middleton (#14) wins a unanimous decision defeating overmatched rookie Rudi Lubbers (UR) in 8 rounds. Middleton repeatedly stuns Lubbers with straight right hands early, and Lubbers starts to run out of gas by the 5th. Middleton intensifies his attack in round 6, and Lubbers wobbles from a hard combination. Lubbers puts up a hard struggle in the last 2 rounds, but Middleton takes the unanimous nod.
