Heavyweight Tommy Martin (#19) slaughters Sam Campbell (#17) with a 7th round knockout that was unbelievably brutal. Martin repeatedly lands the right hand early, and Campbell, who is staggered more than once, shows a swelling almost immediately. Martin continues to completely out-gun Campbell, and Sam's forced to cover up in every round. Martin drops Campbell twice for 6 counts in round 4, but he can't put Sam away. After a dull round of holding Martin puts Campbell down twice in the last 30 seconds of round 5, but amazingly Campbell rises ready to fight. Campbell hang a flush right hand lead that staggers Martin early in the 6th, but Martin shakes it off to AGAIN drop Campbell twice late in the round, and AGAIN Campbell hangs in there and gets up. Martin puts him down with a body shot, and again with a left hook in round 7 but incredibly Campbell rises and referee Eddie Cotton allows the fight to continue. Martin shakes his head, then lands two winging right hands that FINALLY put Campbell down for the count. Campbell puts on a huge display of heart and Eddie Cotton shows his merciless side. Martin scores an incredible 8 knockdowns in the fight. Light heavyweight Ray Anderson (#6) wins a unanimous decision over Bert Gilroy (#2) in 10 entertaining rounds. Gilroy is aggressive early, and Anderson loses a couple rounds trying to wear Gilroy down a bit, holding and countering. Anderson counters Gilroy well in the 3rd, and Gilroy starts to miss regularly. The middle rounds are boring as Anderson cautiously outworks Gilroy, always flurrying in the final 30 seconds of a round to win it. Anderson tires in the 8th, and Gilroy punishes him, desperately looking for the knockout. It's a last gasp as Gilroy completely wilts in the 9th, and Anderson keeps him on the end of a crisp jab the rest of the fight. Anderson takes the unanimous decision 97-93, 96-94 and 97-93. Light heavyweight Prince Charles Williams (#13) scores a 7th round knockout of Frank Tate (#12). Williams lands a big uppercut half-way through round 1, and Tate wobbles to the ropes to soak up some power shots. Williams catches a rest in the 2nd after punching himself out a bit, and Tate recovers to work the body well. Williams lands a right cross that hurts Tate again in the 4th, and Tate has trouble keeping Charles at bay, wobbling again in the 5th and suffering an eye swelling. Tate has a great 6th round, suddenly showing amazing footwork while landing quick combinations. But it's Tate's high-water mark as Williams lands a 3-punch combination that staggers Tate, then a right cross that drops him for the full count at 2:30 of the 7th. Light heavyweight Henry Maske (#4) takes a unanimous decision in 10 rounds over outclassed Martin Amarillas (#10). Maske is the heavy favorite, but Amarillas surprises him with an aggressive attack in round 1. Maske is more warmed up by the 2nd round, and he pumps a quick jab and some nice counters. Maske's superior boxing skills are very much in evidence through the middle rounds, as Maske punishes Amarillas with a variety of punches while remaining extremely elusive to Amarillas' wild leads. Maske is content to cautiously wear Amarillas down, and except for the 9th round he wins every round until the end of the fight.

EBC Heavyweight king Jimmy Young (Chmp) successfully defends his title scoring a 12th round TKO over former champ Zora Folley (#3) in the 3rd meeting between the pair. After a tentative start, Folley lands well with the jab in round 2. Young slows the action, and Folley has a slightly better punch count through the close 4th round. Young opens up in the 5th, but Folley lands a flush left hook at the end of the round. Folley staggers Young again in the 6th, and Young's defense doesn't look so great all of the sudden. Young's sharp jabs raise a swelling under one of Folley's eyes, and Folley throws much less. Young stuns Folley with a nice right hand early in the 8th, but the action grinds to a halt after that. Folley desperately presses the action in round 9 when his eye worsens, but Young matches punch for punch in an all-action 9th round. Young is really sharpshooting the eye in round 11, and Folley becomes cut as well as swollen on the eye. Young punishes the half-blind Folley, and the fight is stopped for fear of damaging Folley's vison permanently. Jimmy Young gets the first stoppage of his career in defending his EBC heavyweight title against his fiercest rival. Heavyweight Amos Johnson (#8) fights to a 12 round draw with Tom "Bearcat" McMahon (#11). Johnson is uncharacteristically aggressive in round 1, hammering McMahon with quick combinations. McMahon finally lands some good shots in rounds 3 and 4 after getting worked early. McMahon really tightens up his defense in the 6th, and Johnson seems to have every punch blocked while taking it to the body. McMahon tires badly in round 8, and Johnson cautiously works the jab from a defensive shell until he catches McMahon relaxing just a second early at the end of the 11th, dropping him for an 2 count with a body shot. McMahon has a huge final round when Johnson, thinking he has it won, takes the round off. McMahon salvages a majority draw. Light heavyweight Charley "Trader" Horn (#5) wins a majority decision over Pedro Cesar Duarte (#9) in 10 rounds. Horn cautiously outworks Duarte in a yawn fest early. Duarte does some nice body work in round 3, including a jarring low blow that draws a warning. The middle rounds are close with Horn doing a lot of jabbing and holding. Duarte slows greatly by round 8 and Charley gets off many combinations countering Duarte's inside work. Horn brings it home the last 2 rounds taking a majority decision. Heavyweight Mike Schreck (#13) scores a quick knockout of Phil Mercurio (#14) in about 2 minutes. As he has done in several of his fights, Schreck sprints across the ring to hurl a lead right hand that stuns Mercurio in the first 3 seconds of the fight. Schreck throws a whirlwind of shots and Mercurio only lands a couple, when both fighters break a clinch and Schreck wings a right hand lead dead on Mercurio's left temple. Phil goes down like a ton of bricks and Schreck has himself another quick knockout, his third in round 1.

CWIvy Brown (#5, 1-1-0, 0KO) L8 Miguel Cea (#3, 3-1-0, 0KO)

In a battle of top heavyweights, Tommy Farr (#4) scores a 9th round TKO of Cleveland Williams (#1). Williams rocks Farr late in round 1, and Farr becomes a little gun shy early, cautiously picking his spots. Farr seems to have figured out how to avoid Williams' big shots by the 3rd, and he dances on the outside countering beautifully. Williams doesn't land a punch for 2 full rounds, and Farr looks like the greatest boxer of all time, punishing Williams and raising a swelling on Cleve's right eye. After his corner pleads with him to pick it up, Williams wobbles Tommy with a viscious shot to the body in the 5th. Tommy stops moving and covers up, and suddenly Williams hammers him in the corner. Now Farr starts to swell on an eye, and Williams, encouraged, starts throwing with abandon again producing a great round of trading. Farr is recovered by the 8th, and he counters Williams silly with straight punches as both fighter's swelling worsens. Williams looks very tired after round 8, and Farr forces Cleve to fruitlessly pursue while eating Farr's jab. After Farr peppers Williams' eye with sharp jabs some more, the doctor steps in at 2:00 of round 9. Tommy Farr will certainly become the #1 heavyweight contender when July's rankings are released. Heavyweight Elzear Rioux (#5) wins a 7th round TKO over Reggie Meen (#7) when Reggie's eye becomes too injured to continue. After a feeling out round, Meen starts to land left hook counters to Rioux's wild haymakers. Rioux gets a big shot home to wobble Meen in the 3rd, and Meen suddenly looks swollen and slow. Meen recovers and he catches Rioux with a ferocious body shot that floors Elzear for a 3 count. Rioux beats the count and later in the round cuts Meen on the swollen eye with a jab. Rioux continues to dominate the action on the inside, and Meen's eye worsens prompting the doctor to take a look. Nearly half-blind, Meen has trouble landing while Rioux concentrates on the head in the middle rounds. The doctor has another look at Meen's eye, which had just reopened again, and he calls it at 1:33 of round 7. TKO for Elzear Rioux. In a brawl all the way, Sinan Samil Sam (#21) scores a 4th round knockout of Bob Lawson (#20). The issue of defense is never even raised, as both fighters trade heavy shots at ring center early. Lawson blinks first when Sam drops him for a 7 count with an overhand right late in round 2. Lawson wobbles again in the 3rd, but comes back to stagger Sam with a nice left hook late in the round. Sam continues to beat Lawson to the punch, and he finally drops Lawson again with a counter left hook and Fighting Bob just can't beat the count. Cruiserweight Miguel Cea (#3) wins a unanimous decision over Ivy Brown (#5) in 8 rounds. Cea's brawling style gives Brown problems from the outset. Late in round 2 Cea catches Ivy with an uppercut that drops him for an 8 count. Cea cuts Brown in round 3 with a straight right hand, and he clearly dictates the action. Brown looks worn out by the 4th, and Cea picks up the pace. Cea drops Brown again for an 8 count with a beautiful uppercut, and Brown takes a beating on the inside. The action slows greatly late, but Cea's domination early gives him the unanimous nod. Cea reels off his 3rd win in 3 months.
