Sinan Samil Sam (#16) shows a lot of heart, stopping Larry Middleton (#14) with a 9th round TKO. Sam stuns Middleton with the first right hand, but after Sam lands a couple good shots on the ropes, Middleton starts boxing smoothly and dropping counter rights when Sam misses. It's a dirty fight, and both fighters rack up a couple of warnings by round 4. Middleton tires in round 5, decreasing his mobility, and Sam starts to land the overhand right with increasing regularity, electrifying Sam's hometown crowd. Sam goes gun-shy in the 6th, and Middleton peppers him with jabs. Suddenly early in round 8, Sam lands a perfect right cross that drops Middleton for an 8 count. Sam blasts Middleton with many power shots, and Middleton goes down again from a viscious body punch as the 8th round ends. Middleton, still woozy after being saved by the bell, lands a big right hand early in the 9th, but then Sam counters with a shot that staggers Middleton. Sam lands a couple more right hands before referee Mercante rescues Middleton at 0:13 of the 9th round to tumultuous cheers from the crowd. Cleveland Williams (#4) destroys brave Johnny DuPlooy (#3) in a one sided slaughter scoring a TKO in 5. Williams lands at will from the opening bell, but he really opens up in round 3. DuPlooy can only lay on the ropes to absorb a pounding. DuPlooy's eye starts to swell, and he looks too tired to hold his arms up as early as round 4. Williams unloads on the half blind South African who refuses to go down, until the referee stops the slaughter just before round 5 ends. Amos Johnson (#7) wins a unanimous decision over Al Roberts (#6) in 10 rounds. The action is sparse until Johnson plants a cracking head butt on Roberts' nose early in the 3rd. Johnson receives a warning, then unleashes a big uppercut and some nasty hooks while Roberts sees stars from the butt. Johnson has his way until Roberts stuns him at the end of round 5 with a counter left hook. Roberts enjoys a big rally until Johnson hammers him with right hands in round 8, and Al runs out of gas down the stretch. Both fighters are so exhausted from their first 10 rounder, that the last round sees almost no punches. Rosco Toles (#10) wins a unanimous decision over rookie Walter Santemore (UR) in 10 uneven rounds. Toles comepletely outclasses Santemore, wearing him down with a triphammer jab and lightning fast feet. Toles rests up in the middle rounds, then finishes with a big flurry that raises a bad swelling over Santemore's eye and cements the unanimous decision.
