EBC - The Olympia - London, England
HWSinan Samil Sam (#7, 10-3-0, 6KO) WDQ3 George LaRocco (#3, 6-3-2, 3KO)
HWTommy Martin (#8, 9-1-0, 6KO) KO2 Stanley Copek (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
LHWHarry Greb (#1, 4-0-0, 1KO) W10 Ray Anderson (#3, 2-1-1, 0KO)
LHWLloyd Marshall (#5, 4-0-0, 1KO) W10 Henry Maske (#4, 3-2-0, 1KO)

Heavyweight Sinan Samil Sam (#7) wins on a 3rd round disqualification of George LaRocco (#3) in an ugly fight. The first heavy action happens when LaRocco headbutts Martin resulting in a cut, and although LaRocco wins the round convincingly he has a point taken away. LaRocco lands a nasty rabbit punch early in round 3, and referee Steve Smoger disqualifies LaRocco. Heavyweight Tommy Martin (#8) scores a 2nd round knockout of rookie Stanley Copek (UR). Copek surprisingly comes out swinging in round 1, and the pair trade power shots bringing the crowd to it's feet. Copek is cut early, and it affects his vision badly, as Martin lands overhand rights until Copek goes down for a 9 count in round 2. Copek gets up only to run into another big right hand that puts the lights out for the night. Harry Greb (#1) wins a unanimous decision over Ray Anderson (#3) in an important light heavyweight matchup. Greb starts to land big with his trademark swarming attack, when he stuns Anderson with an overhand right 1:00 into the fight. Anderson helplessly covers up, not finding even a moment to throw a punch. The punishment starts to wear on Anderson who starts to breath out of his mouth as early as round 3. Anderson has a good round 5, but he mostly just takes a pounding throught the middle rounds. Greb drops Anderson for a 5 count with a booming right cross early in round 7. Anderson recovers to trade with Greb in the 8th, but Greb still does the better work. Anderson opens a bad cut on Greb's eye in round 9, and the enraged Greb immediately knocks him down with a sweeping body punch for a 6 count. The action slows in the final round when Anderson goes into survival mode. Greb takes the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight Lloyd Marshall (#5) wins a razor close majority decision over Henry Maske (#4) in 10 dull rounds. Maske does a nice job early of jabbing and selectively clinching, frustrating Marshall early. Marshall lands a couple flush shots in the middle rounds, but it's mostly a display of Maske's slick and efficient boxing. Marshall has a good rally in the 8th round, but he never catches the elusive Maske with anything clean. Though tired, Marshall opens up to land several power punches in round 9. It's just barely enough as Marshall takes the controversial majority decision 97-95, 96-96 and 97-95. The British crowd lustily boos the decision, appreciating Maske's fine boxing more than the judges. The two important light heavyweight bouts reveals that Greb and Marshall are the two favorites to fight for the vacant EBC light heavyweight crown later this year.

HW George Johnson (#19, 11-3-0, 1KO) W10 Lorenzo Canady (#20, 0-2-2, 0KO)

In a nice heavyweight matchup, Rosco Toles (#12) wins a disputed majority decision over Earnie Shavers (#13) in 12 rounds. Toles uses his excellent hand speed to outwork Shavers his jab early, but everytime Earnie touches him he almost goes down. In round 3 Toles is in bad shape after almost going down from a right to the abdomen. Shavers opens up and hums big right hands home on the staggering Toles, almost forcing a stoppage. Toles recovers to carefully outjab Shavers in the 4th, but Earnie lands 1 flush right that Toles absorbs well this time. Shavers wobbles Rosco again in the 6th with a left hook, but he seems to take a rest in the 7th allowing Toles to take command again. Shavers again almost puts Rosco down in the 8th, and Toles absorbs a couple more big shots but doesn't go down. The action slows until the 11th when both fighters trade at ring center. Shavers takes the 12th by staggering Rosco with a body shot, but Rosco takes the majority decision 115-113, 114-114 and 116-112. Light heavyweight Jorge Ahumada (#10) wins a majority decision over Charley "Trader" Horn (#2) in a cut shortened fight. Horn fights the heavily favored Ahumada to a standstill for the first 6 rounds, but Ahumada hurts him with an uppercut in round 7. Ahumada is punishing Horn on the inside in round 8 when Horn suffers a bad cut from an accidental headbutt. Ahumada is punched out in the 9th, and Horn starts sticking and moving again, winning the round convincingly. Horn wobbles Ahumada in the 10th, and Jorge desperately fires back staggering Horn and reopening the ugly gaping cut. Since the cut was caused by an accidental butt, the scorecards are consulted reading 88-85, 87-87 and 87-86 for Ahumada. Light heavyweight Prince Charles Williams (#6) wins an 8th round TKO over Nicky Piper (#11). Williams stings Piper repeatedly early, and by round 3 Piper is mostly holding and covering up. Piper's eye starts to look ugly in the 4th, and Charles continues to land winging right hands one after another. Piper almost goes down at the end of the 5th, and he suffers a bad cut over the swollen eye. After a full round of being brutalized, Piper lands a flush right hand at the end of round 6 but Charles shrugs it off. Charles dominates the next 2 rounds, and Piper, bleeding badly is finally rescued by the referee. Heavyweight George "Scrapiron" Johnson (#19) wins a unanimous decision over Lorenzo Canady (#20) in 10 rounds. Johnson is easily outclassing Canady early when he breaks his right hand, probably in the 2nd round. Johnson's reluctance to throw power punches keeps Canady in the fight, though Johnson cuts loose in the 5th with a torrid barrage. Johnson cautiously snaps home jab after jab, and Canady can't do a thing about it late. Johnson takes the unanimous decision by a wide margin.

In a battle of heavyweight contenders, Mike Schreck (#5) wins a unanimous decision over Amos Johnson (#9) in a bloody fight. In a tepid first round, Johnson gets penalized for a debatable low blow. Schreck throws caution to the wind in round 2 landing a couple nice shots, but eating a lot of counters too. Schreck shows a slight swelling on an eye when round 2 ends. Schreck staggers Johnson early in the 3rd, but he slickly escapes to jab nicely. Schreck wins the 4th, roughing Johnson up on the inside, but the swelling worsens. Schreck slows down when Johnson cuts his other eye with a snapping jab. Johnson works the body as Schreck paws at his face. Schreck stings him in round 5, landing a couple of desperate haymakers, but again Johnson absorbs everything Mike throws at him. Johnson gets tired in the 6th and Schreck opens up, throwing heavy leather while clinching on the inside. Johnson shows a swelling after round 8, but Schreck's is much worse, though Mike continues to punish Amos though he can barely see. Johnson, after being warned for a low blow, reopens Schreck's cut in the 10th, and jabs him to pieces while Mike blinks and paws at the cut. Johnson is easily winning the 11th, working a punishing body attack, when Schreck scores a flash knockdown with an uppercut on the inside. Johnson recovers to win the 12th, but Schreck takes the unanimous decision. Schreck shows guts and Johnson is hurt by an early foul that is highly suspect. Heavyweight Gerald "Tuffy" Griffiths (#6) scores a 2nd round TKO of Francois Hendrickx (#21). Griffith lands a big overhand right in the first 10 seconds that staggers Hendrickx and opens a bad cut inside of Francois' eyebrow. Hendrickx wipes away the blood as Griffith bruatalizes him early with arcing right hands. As round 2 starts, Hendrickx' cut eye swells too. Griffith lands a couple more right hands from the parking lot that the half-blind Belgian never sees, before the referee steps in to save him. Griffiths has been on quite a run with 6 straight wins since his lone loss to Gunboat Smith last year. Jean-Marc Mormeck (#4) scores an 8th round knockout of Marvin Camel (#2) in an important cruiser matchup. The fight is a foul filled affair that gets kind of ugly right away. Mormeck looks cold, and receives a warning for using his shoulders inside, then Camel, after taking round 1 convincingly, hits after the bell and gets warned. Mormeck suffers a cut in round 2, but then he stuns Camel with 3 hard shots in a row. Mormeck scores well when both fighters flash jabs from the outside in the round 3. Mormeck comes inside to floor Camel with a nasty shot to the liver in round 4. Camel gets up at 3 and trades, coming back to land some shots, though he takes many as well. Camel slows the pace in the 5th, but Mormeck lands a flush right hand just before the bell. Camel has a big 6th round, but again is staggered right at the bell by Mormeck's deadly right hand. Camel continues to outwork Mormeck late, until Jean-Marc lands a crushing right hand half way through round 8. Camel staggers to the ropes in bad shape, and Mormeck lands a big left hook, then an overhand right that puts Camel down for the 10 count. Cruiserweight Christophe Girard (#5) wins his fight with Tyrone Mack (UR), when Mack is disqualified in round 9 for hitting low. Mack headbutts Girard, producing a swelling on Christophe's eye in round 1. The early rounds are very close with each having an advantage for a while. Girard starts to land when his corner gets the swelling down and Mack tires in round 4. Mack pulls it together in round 6 to punish Girard, hammering him into a corner. Girard's swelling gets worse and Christophe desperately throws haymakers in the 7th. Early in round 9 Mack lands a low blow from hell, and referee Alvarado rules it to be blatant and disqualifies Mack!
