In a big upset, Mike Schreck (#5) blitzes Sinan Samil Sam (#6) knocking him cold at 2:37 of round 1. Schreck surprises Sam with his power, stunning him with the very first hook to the jaw. Schreck opens up, blasting Sam to the canvas only 40 seconds into the scheduled 12 rounder. Sam rises at 8, but is completely out of it allowing Schreck to drive him to the ropes and pick his shots. Schreck finally nails him with a measured right hand, and Sam goes to sleep for the night. Sam loses his 2nd straight fight after looking so promising a few months ago. Schreck continues his improbable climb to the top. Tommy Farr wins a TKO over Gunboat Smith for cuts in round 10 of their 12 rounder. Farr opens the cut on Smith's forehead in round 1. Smith absolutely levels Farr with a right cross early in the 2nd, but Farr is up and on his bicycle at 8. Farr slows the action in the 8th, and Smith butts him out of frustration, costing him a point. Farr reopens the cut on Smith's forehead in the 5th, and after the doctor takes a look, Smith swarms Farr with powerful right hands. Smith fights an ugly fight in the middle rounds, butting and cuffing Farr in the clinches. Farr stuns Smith early in the 8th with a counter left hook, then hammers him with 7 straight power punches dropping him for an 8 count. Farr rains punches on Smith, who goes down again for a 5 count. Smith survives the round, but looks bad as round 9 begins. Farr knows he has a big points lead, so he's content to dance outside and play defense. Farr reopens the cut on Smith's forehead releasing a cascade of blood. The doctor stops the fight immediately. Jimmy Young (#12) wins a dull decision over outclassed Rocky Knight (#16) in 12 rounds. Young easily keeps Knight at a distance with his jab, and Knight's wild swinging misses have him gasping for breath by round 5. Knight has a good 7th round but he just can't hurt Young, whose frustrating style makes it tough to hit him with anything solid. Knight stuns Young momentarily in the 9th, but Young still wins the round. Knight has very little left at the end of the fight, and Young doesn't have the punch to get him out of there. Young by unanimous decision. Elzear Rioux (#10) scores a 5th round knockout of Rudi Wagener (#7) in a battle of big punchers. Rioux starts like gangbusters, stunning Wagener in round 2 with a huge overhand right. Wagener has a good 3rd round, hurting Rioux with a couple good body punches, but Wagener misses plenty and starts to slow. Rioux blasts the arm-weary Wagener in the 4th, and Wagener starts to wish he were still fighting 6 rounders. Now disdainful of Wagener's fading power, Rioux fires haymaker after haymaker at Wagener, dropping him with a clubbing left hook. Wagener rises, but Rioux pummels him with wild power punches until a right uppercut puts Wagener down and out.
