Cleveland Williams (#5) scores a thrilling 11th round TKO of Rosco Toles (#1) when Toles' eye closes. Williams stings Toles with a flush right hand in round 1, and punishes Toles in the follow up. Round 2 features an amazing exchange when Williams lands big, then Toles flashes his excellent hand speed on the move. Williams continues the assault, and raises a swelling on Toles' left eye. Toles is much more effective in the middle rounds, showing angles scoring to the head. Williams lands some big shots in round 7, and the swelling on Toles gets a lot worse. Williams tires in the 8th and Toles hurts him with a big right hand to the top of the head. Williams staggers around as Toles nails him with punch after punch. The action slows until Williams steps into a sweet uppercut that wobbles Toles early in the 10th. Toles gets a breather while the doctor checks his eye, but the fight continues. A minute into round 11, Williams lands another uppercut thrown from the hip that drops Toles for a 5 count. Williams lands 2 more right hands before the doctor has another look, stopping the fight because of the ugly swelling. The badly injured Toles isn't expected to fight until at least next May. Williams rockets back into the #1 contender's spot. Paul Cavalier (#9) wins a majority decision over Elzear Rioux (#6) in 12 rounds. The early rounds could have brought snores, but both fighters open up in round 5 and a terrific exchange ensues. Cavalier stuns Rioux early in round 6 with an uppercut, and he slams Rioux to the body on the ropes. Rioux lands some good punches early in the 7th, but Cavalier steals the round with a big flurry. Cavalier continues winning rounds until the 10th, when Rioux opens a big cut over Cavalier's right eye. Rioux starts landing on the half blind Cavalier in the last few rounds. Rioux is winning the 12th and final round, when Cavalier lands a roundhouse that almost floors Rioux with 10 seconds in the fight. Cavalier wins the majority decision 117-113, 115-115 and 117-113. Jimmy Young (#12) wins a unanimous decision over Larry Middleton (#15) in a workmanlike effort. Young jabs and clinches early, and Middleton has a point deducted in the very first round with a questionable low blow call. Young wins the early rounds with measured flurrys toward the ends of the early rounds. After Middleton tires in round 6, Young outworks him mostly by showing angles, then banging with both hands and clinching. Middleton wins a couple rounds late, when Young gets lazy, but Young has scored enough early to win the unanimous decision. Amos Johnson (#3) wins a unanimous decision in 10 over rookie Billy Clemmons (UR). Johnson easily outboxes Clemmons, and Clemmons' lack of power allows Johnson to throw the right hand with impunity. Clemmons lands some good shots in the 4th, but then Johnson plants his feet and fires some bombs late in the round. Johnson takes a round off and Johnson hammers him with lots of punches. Johnson continues to pick his spots, keeping the action sparse until he opens up in round 8. Clemmons is exhausted and can't fight back anymore, and Johnson outhustles him down the stretch to take the majority decision.
