Top light heavyweight contender Jack O'Brien (#1) wins a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Al Gainer (#6) in 12 rounds. O'Brien smoothly boxes and jabs the cruder Gainer to pieces early. Gainer wobbles Jack with a pair of big hooks in the 3rd, but Jack's work early in the round makes it close. O'Brien resumes his masterful outboxing of Gainer in the 4th. Gainer barely lays a glove on the slippery philadelphian in the middle rounds, and O'Brien brilliantly counters the bumbling slugger. Gainer lands a couple hard shots in the 8th, but Jack still manages to win the round with a late flurry. O'Brien injures his right hand in the 10th, so the action slows to a crawl until the final bell. O'Brien wins the near shutout in convincing fashion........In a wild one cruiserweight Jose Luis Rivera wins another victory over former champ Sebastian Rothman with an 11th round TKO on cuts in their rematch. Rothman starts fast, but Rivera lands a big uppercut that staggers the israeli at the end of round 1. Round 2 is a see-saw thriller of a round that sees Rivera teeing off until Rothman lands a big pair of uppercuts that wobbles Jose. Rothman scores a shot to the liver that drops Rivera for a 6 count in the 4th, and he hammers Jose the rest of the round. Rivera lands a hook on the crouching former champ that drops him for a 3 count in the 6th. Rivera absolutely hammers the badly hurt Rothman the rest of the round. Jose nails him with another big hook that drops the now bleeding Rothman for an 8 count, and Rothman looks about finished at the end of round 7. Rothman flurries in the 8th, while Rivera catches a rest. Rivera staggers Rothman again in the 9th, reopening the cut and puffing up the same eye, prompting a visit from the doctor. Rothman drops the clevelander with an uppercut late in the 10th, but Rivera is up at 4. Rothman nails him with some nice right hands in the follow-up, but he breaks his right hand. Rivera wisely targets Rothman's damaged eye, prompting another doctor's visit. This time the doctor stops the bloodbath. Rivera wins a controversial TKO, and the former champ Rothman has lost his last 3 fights......Heavyweight Henry Akinwande (#13) scores a 4th round TKO of brave Vittorio Campolo (#15) in a brutal one. Akinwande tears into the italian with sweeping hooks upstairs and Campolo is swollen with his head ringing after only one round. Akinwande floors him with a stinging combination in the 2nd, but Campolo is up at 3. Akinwande starts to tee off with overhand rights in the 4th, closing Campolo's eye before the referee rescues the brave italian late in the round......Middleweight Frank Tate (#17) scores an impressive 10th round knockout of Freddie Cabral (#14). Cabral stings him with a hard hook right away, but Tate grits his teeth and fires hooks to the head the rest of the round. Tate continues to whale away upstairs and by the end of round 2, Cabral has a generous swelling under an eye. Cabral slows the texan with a hard shot to the solar plexus in the 4th, but Tate gets it going again as the round ends. Round 5 is a close, action packed round, but Cabral's eye worsens. Tate tees off with uppercuts in the 6th, but Cabral lands a huge hook just as the round ends. Tate staggers Freddie again at the end of the 8th, and Cabral looks exhausted with his damaged eye nearly closed. Early in the 10th Tate lands a bomb of an uppercut on the half-blind Cabral, who goes down and out for the night.

Heavyweight Paul Cavalier (#2) scores a 2nd round knockout over Sal Ruggirello (#24). Cavalier catches Sal early in round 2 with a wicked uppercut that drops Ruggirello for the count......Middleweight Jeff Smith (#9) wins a unanimous decision over Enzo Fiermonte (#8) in 10 rounds. Smith smoothly boxes the italian's ears off early, and Fiermonte doesn't do much until a great 5th round. Fiermonte is winning the 6th when Smith wobbles him with a hook upstairs. Fiermonte has nothing left by the 8th, and Smith alternately holds and jabs until the final bell. Smith takes the unanimous decision by a wide margin......Light heavyweight Tommy Loughran (#8) wins his 3rd straight victory over Mel Brown (#15) with a unanimous decision. Loughran outclasses Brown with his flashy hand speed and impeccable footwork. Brown starts to swell on an eye by the 3rd, and he looks frustrated lumbering around trying to trap the light footed Loughran. Brown rallies in the 5th and 6th, but it's a last gasp and Loughran takes over. Tommy snaps the jab, but Brown bull rushes and the pair bang heads resuslting in a cut under Brown's swollen eye in the 7th. Loughran brings it home with a stylish display in the final 3 rounds, and he easily takes the unanimous decision.....Cruiserweight James Salerno (#6) scores a 6th round knockout of Donnell Wingfield (#7). There's not much action early, but the punches that do land are haymakers, and though Wingfield does the better work Salerno cuts him with a nasty hook in the 3rd. Salerno reopens the cut in the 4th and the doctor has a look at the now terrible looking wound. Salerno rallies in the 5th, and the cut reopens again. Salerno staggers Wingfield with a hook to the temple, then he drops Donnell for the count with a viscious shot to the liver.....

JMWMamadou Thiam (#2, 3-0-0, 1KO) W10 Antonio Castellini (#5, 1-1-2, 0KO)

Former EBC heavyweight champion Jimmy Young (#3) outlasts slugger Cleveland Williams (#5) to win a majority decision in 12 rounds, his second victory over the slugger from Houston. Cleve staggers Young half way through the 1st with a damaging combination, and he works Young into a corner to attack the body. Young starts moving and boxing in the 3rd and Williams can't lay a glove on the elusive ex-champ. They trade in the 4th, but Young does a much better job of landing in close. Williams pins Young in the corner in round 5, but Jimmy counterpunches well with his back to the ropes. Williams has trouble cutting off the ring in the 6th, so Young picks him apart while backpedaling and Cleve swells on an eye. Williams starts landing well in the 8th, but he can't really hurt Jimmy and his granite beard. Williams staggers Jimmy in the 9th, but Jimmy covers up surviving with only a swollen eye. Young gets it going in the 10th, and Williams has trouble reaching him with anything solid. Williams is exhausted from the pursuit of the master boxer, so Young dominates the final 2 frames to cement the oddly close majority decision......Middleweight Tommy Uren (#5) scores a cuts TKO in round 8 of his battle with Young Stuhley (#7). Stuhley wobbles Uren with an uppercut in the 2nd, but mostly the action is light early. Uren cuts Stuhley over an eye in the 4th, and the doctor visits twice during the 5th round. The cut is closed by round 7, but Uren's been piling up the points while Stuhley blinks and paws at the cut. Uren reopens the cut early in round 8, and the doctor calls it.......Light heavyweight Julio Gonzalez (#16) scores a first round knockout of Charley Horn (#11) in their contest. Both men start firing at the bell, and Horn is the first to blink, going down and out from a hard right cross at the bell. Gonzalez by knockout......Junior middleweight Mamadou Thiam (#2) stays undefeated with his unanimous decision victory over Antonio Castellini (#5) in 10 rounds. Thiam scores well upstairs early, and Castellini knows he's in with his best opponent to date. Thiam lands a leaping left hook that drops Castellini for an 8 count early in the 2nd, but Castellini survives by covering up. Antonio lands some nice hooks in the 3rd, but Thiam lands a huge right cross that drops him for a 5 count half way through round 4. Both men are wobbled in a furious exchange in the 5th, but Castellini boxes and moves on the suddenly tired Thiam in the 6th and 7th. The late rounds are close, but Castellini has a point taken away for a rabbit punch in the 9th, insuring Thiam's unanimous decision victory......

Heavyweight Earnie Shavers (#11) wins a one sided decision over Rosco Toles (#8) in 12 rounds. Shavers touches Toles with the right early in the 2nd and Rosco is rocky eating murderous hooks upstairs until the bell. Toles moves and jabs early in the 3rd, but Shavers again catches him with a big shot late in the round. Shavers wobbles Toles again in the 4th, and Toles swells under his left eye from the heavy shots. Everything works for Earnie as he goes to the uppercut to wobble Rosco again in the 5th. Shavers gets Toles hurt badly with big hooks in round 7, and it's a miracle that Toles stays upright through the tempest. Toles' eye is completely closed by the 8th, and Earnie throws a truckload of power punches at the half blind and staggering Toles. Rosco absorbs a bunch more punishment in the 9th, but he rallies big in the final minute of the round. Shavers huffs and puffs while Toles keeps him at bay with the jab late, and hits him low in the final round. Shavers takes the unanimous decision over the iron chinned michiganian to reverse a decision loss to Toles in July of last year.......Light heavyweights Henry Maske (#5) and Eric Harding (#9) fight to a 10 round draw in a rematch of a Harding decision win a year ago. Maske handily outboxes Harding in the 1st, snapping the jab and blocking all of Eric's punches. Harding comes back well in the 2nd until Maske rallies causing a swelling on Harding's eye with jabs and crosses. Harding looks great working upstairs in the 3rd, but Maske targets the eye to worsen the swelling. Harding rallies in the 6th, but his eye is an ugly slit. Maske wins the 8th, landing a couple of hard hooks that score on Eric's damaged eye. Harding rallies big in the final round, and it salvages a draw......Heavyweight George LaRocco (#21) wins a majority decision from Scott Frank (#16) in 10 rounds. LaRocco takes the first with a mauling, brawling attack as Frank wrestles with the stronger New Yorker who starts picking up warnings for fouls immediately. George shoves and butts and lands short hooks on the inside in the 3rd, and Frank looks frustrated during the many clinches. Frank suffers a major eye swelling in the 4th, perhaps from a thumb while grappling with LaRocco. Frank flurries in the 5th, resulting in a rousing shootout. LaRocco recaptures the momentum in the 7th, hooking to the body. LaRocco is warned for a head butt that rings Frank's bell in the 8th, then lands a sweeping right that floors Scott for an 8 count. George hammers Frank for the rest of the round and Scott suffers a cut eyebrow. LaRocco cautiously works from the outside until the final bell, and he takes the majority decision....... Heavyweight Amos Johnson (#28) wins a unanimous decision over Neil Clisby (#26) in 10 rounds. Clisby rallies early in the 1st, but Johnson fights back hard to make the round close, bringing the venezuelan fans to their feet. The heavy action continues with Clisby landing some hard shots in the 2nd, until Johnson backs him into a corner to attack the body. Johnson methodically bangs hooks off of his jab in the 3rd, and Clisby starts to slow. The weary Clisby's offense is completely ineffectual by round 5, and Johnson begins to dance and jab. Clisby pins Amos in a corner and empties the guns in round 6, and suddenly Johnson looks tired. Johnson bloodies Clisby's mouth in the 8th, and Amos tees off with impunity again. Johnson shoots the jab until the final bell to put the finishing touches on a unanimous decision win.
