EBC - Isleta Casino & Resort - Albuquerque, NM
HWPeter Jackson (#1, 18-2-1, 13KO) TKO8 Jake Kilrain (#2, 29-8-0, 19KO)

Jackson's very first right cross off the jab stuns Kilrain a minute into the bout, and Kilrain doesn't land even one punch as Jackson cleans up against Jake. Round 2 is more of the same, and Jake's face reflects that as Jake has a swollen eye, as Jackson belts him around the ring. Kilrain finally lands a decent shot in round 3, and Jackson lands some nice shots when he recovers after a few seconds. Kilrain lands a nice shot in the closing seconds of round 3 and Jackson almost goes down, but in the end the only thing affecting the fight is Kilrains ballooning eye. Jackson continues to punish Kilrain in the 4th, and that swollen eye looks worse and worse. Jackson's dominance continues in round 5 and Kilrain's eye looks downright ugly. Kilrain lands a nice hook in round 6, staggering Jackson. Round 7 sees the action slow way down, but Jackson still takes it. Jackson targets Kilrain's damaged eye in the 8th, until the referee rescues Jake from taking further damage. Peter Jackson wins by 8th round TKO.

EBC - Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle - Stuttgart, Germany
HWJohn P Clow (#4, 15-8-1, 4KO) L12 Tommy Chandler (#12, 5-1-1, 1KO)

Clow flashes a nice jab early, and he nails Chandler to the midsection with a minute left in the 1st. Chandler stuns Clow with a nice combination at the bell ending the 1st. Chandler stands Clow up with an uppercut and then he wobbles him severely with a crushing hook late in round 2. Clow is jabbing in the 3rd when suddenly Chandler lands a right haymaker and Clow drops for a 3 count. Chandler follows up pretty well with uppercuts, and Clow lands a hard right hand lead at the bell. Clow is still rocky in the 4th so they meet at ring center and war until Chandler drops him again late in round 4 for a 6 count. Chandler continues to hammer Clow upstairs and by the time round 5 ends Clow has a slightly swollen eye. Round 6 sees the action slow down, but Clow flurrys in the last 30 seconds to take the round. Clow gets very aggressive in round 7 and he scores repeatedly on Chandler who barely throws a punch in the 7th. Chandler looks gassed in the 8th, and Clow does a nice job taking full advantage. Round 9 is too close to call, but Clow's swollen orb looks worse after. Round 10 is just as close as both men tire, and round 11 sees Clow rediscover his jab to great effect. Chandler attacks the body in the final round, and Clow tries desperately to get something going. Tommy Chandler wins an upset unanimous decison.

August 20, 1885

EBC - Fight Coliseum - Salt Lake City, UT
FWYoung Pluto (#2, 6-0-0, 1KO) KO9 Fred Johnson (#4, 4-5-0, 0KO)

Pluto scores with a hard right cross first in round 1, but the round ends up even. Pluto scores with a big uppercut in round 2, and Johnson topples to the resined canvas for a 6 count. Pluto has great killer instinct and he lights up Johnson for the rest of the round. Johnson is winning the 3rd when Pluto nails him with a right cross that staggers Fred. Pluto takes round 4, but Johnson makes the round close with a flurry in the last 30 seconds of the round. Pluto leads off the 5th with a right cross that makes Johnson take a stutter step to stay upright. Johnson retreats into a corner, and Pluto savages him to the body for the rest of the round. The pace slows for a while, until Pluto lands a pair of uppercuts that stagger, and then drop Johnson for a 7 count, late in the 7th. In round 8 Johnson makes Pluto chase him while he jabs to keep Young Pluto at bay. Early in the 9th Pluto lands a poking left that cuts Johnson under an eye. Fred is obviously bothered by the cut because Pluto drops him with a right hand lead half-way through the round. Johnson doesn't even flinch once he's on the floor, and the referee counts him out. Young Pluto wins by 9th round knockout.

EBC - Parque Revolucion - Culiacan, Mexico
LWBilly Dacey (#2, 9-5-0, 4KO) W10 Sam Bittle (#7, 12-8-4, 5KO)

No feeling out process is employed by either man, and each stings the other late in the 1st round. Dacey scores with a hard combination in the 2nd, and Bittle is reeling after a few more of those. Dacey scores repeatedly in the 3rd while Bittle has no answer to keep up, while round 4 the action slows way down. Dacey takes over in round 5 and after he bangs a few combinations off his head, Bittle is staggered with a ringing head. Dacey hurts him with a right hook in the 7th, and he looks to put Bittle away after a few screaming uppercuts. Round 8 is close, and Dacey hits him low and catches a warning for it. Bittle sports a puffy eye after the 9th, and the 10th is close with no clear winner. The judge's scorecards read a unanimous decision victory for Billy Dacey.

Early in the 3rd McAuliffe backs Parker into a corner and he fires away until Parker goes down for another 3 count late in the round. McAuliffe floors him for the full count of 10 with a few seconds left. Jack McAuliffe will meet Barney Donovan before the end of the year for Donovan's EBC Lightweight championship.

EBC - DIVS - Ekaterinburg, Russia
HW(R3)Jake Kilrain (#3, 29-7-0, 19KO) KO2 Mervine Thompson (#4, 8-5-1, 2KO)

Kilrain nails him with a series of hooks in the 1st, punctuating the round with a nasty uppercut on Thompson's chin. Jake catches a warning for an allegedly low blow early in the 2nd, and half-way through the round Kilrain drops the "Cleveland Thunderbolt" with a right handed haymaker. Thompson makes a gallant effort to rise, but the referee tolls the count of 10. Jake Kilrain scores another sensational knockout.

July 28, 1885

EBC - Kezar Pavilion - San Francisco, CA
LW(R4)(T)Barney Donovan (Chmp, 24-1-0, 20KO) W15 George Taylor (#5, 13-11-4, 2KO)

Taylor enters the fight as one of only 3 men to go the distance with the lightweight champion Donovan. They trade power hooks early, but no one clearly takes the 1st. Donovan gets physical in the 2nd and he lands a big right cross that momentarily freezes Taylor. Donovan lands a big left hook early in the 3rd, and he gets a couple nice right hands home as well. Donovan jabs early in the 4th and it makes an opening for a hard uppercut that rolls Taylor's eyes back in his head. Donovan gets some nice leverage on a pair of uppercuts that have Taylor out on his feet at the bell. Taylor finally takes a round when Donovan is punched out in the 5th, and Taylor lands a couple of hard uppercuts. Taylor moves inside in the 6th, attacking the body, which gives Donovan a perfect opportunity to land the right cross and Taylor drops like a shot. He rises at 9 and his legs are in bad shape but the referee says George can continue. Donovan lands to the body late in the round, but Taylor survives by staying on his bicycle. In round 7 Donovan continues to land hard shots, while Taylor has trouble keeping his hands up. Both men have their moments in the 8th, and while Donovan scores with combinations upstairs in the 9th Taylor attacks the body with gusto in the round. Taylor hits the champion low in the 10th, and Donovan is enraged and throws with both hands upstairs for the rest of the round. Referee Foster runs a tight ship as usual and Taylor picks up 2 warnings in the 11th for hitting low and using his shoulders. Donovan catches a breather in round 12, and Taylor nails him to the body and once on the jaw. A minute into the 14th Donovan lands a crushing uppercut that Taylor doesn't take well, and George retreats into a corner. Taylor holds and barely survives, but his left eye begins to swell after the 14th. Barney Donovan rides the hook to the finish line, and he clearly takes the unanimous decision 145-139 and 146-138 twice to defend his EBC crown successfully.

July 19, 1885

EBC - Coliseo Pedro Julio Nolasco - LaRomana, Dominican Republic
HWFrank Slavin (#11, 8-6-0, 7KO) KO2 Tom Lees (#13, 6-3-1, 3KO)

Half way through the very first round Slavin lands a booming left hook, as part of a lusty attack coming Lees' way. A minute into round 2 Slavin lands a combination that finishes with a left hook that drops Lees. Tom makes it as far as getting on one knee, but he cannot beat the count. Frank Slavin wins by quick and decisive knockout.

July 01, 1885

EBC - Deerfoot Inn and Casino - Calgary, Canada
LWBilly Dacey (#6, 8-5-0, 4KO) W6 Jack Hall (#2, 5-1-0, 3KO)

Hall is right in Billy's face early, and he lands a couple hard shots as Billy circles away from him in the 1st. Both men get a bit wild in the 2nd, so no one lands a substantial punch. They trade hard shots as round 3 begins, and it's Billy Dacey who does a good job attacking the body in round 3. Dacey lands a couple of hard left hooks that start Hall's eye puffing up. Late in the 4th they bang heads and Hall starts bleeding like a stuck pig from an eyebrow. Hall's seconds get the cut stopped before the 5th, but Dacey lands an uppercut on the point of Hall's chin that wobbles Hall. Late in the round Hall's eyebrow cut reopens, and his eye swells shut alarmingly fast, so Dacey lands a couple of long right crosses that send Hall tottering around the ring half blind. Dacey finishes the round strong landing his jab repeatedly. Early in the 6th the doctor takes a look at Hall, and he OK's Hall's continued participation. Dacey lands a shot that reopens Hall's cut again in the 7th, and this time the doctor stops the fight. Because the cut was caused by an accidental head-butt, they go to the scorecards through the 6 completed rounds. The majority decision goes to Billy Dacey 59-55 twice and 57-57. Dacey wins his second fight in 8 days.

EBC - Cafe Royal - London, England
LWBilly Dacey (#6, 7-5-0, 4KO) W10 Bill Mahan (#2, 10-6-0, 6KO)

Dacey dictates the color of the early round 1, but Mahan lands to the bread basket and it staggers Dacey. Billy Dacey returns to completely outclassing Mahan and landing hard shots both upstairs and to the body in rounds 2 and 3. Dacey hurts him to the body in round 4 so Mahan covers up and takes it, while in round 5 Dacey lands a right cross that topples Mahan for an 8 count. Mahan rises and Dacey gets a little overexcited and misses most everything in the follow up rally. Mahan's eye swells severely between rounds, and Mahan's corner seems unsure how to deal with the nasty looking eye. Mahan is gassed and his heavy movements are labored in the 6th, though Dacey does little to hurt him in the round. Round 7 is close, but Mahan lands to the body heavily and he catches a warning for a low blow. Dacey floors Mahan half-way through round 8, and he rises at 5. Dacey throws everything but the kitchen sink at Mahan but he still can't finish him. In round 9 Mahan is completely exhausted and Dacey carefully outboxes him, and the last round is finally clearly for Mahan as Dacey covers up. The final scorecards read a unanimous decision for Billy Dacey by several kilometers.

June 23, 1885

EBC - Centro de Usos Multiples - Huatabampo, Mexico
FWJacob Hyams (#1, 10-2-0, 8KO) L15 Tommy Danforth (#2, 21-1-3, 10KO)

Danforth smoothly moves around the ring, and he lands a couple hard shots upstairs in round 1. Hyams finally catches up to Danforth in the 2nd, taking the round with a couple power shots to the head. Danforth barely scores more in round 3 and the crowd begins to get restless because of the lack of satisfying action. In round 4 Hyams scores with a hard uppercut, which triggers a spectacular exchange at ring center that raises the roof. In the 5th Danforth lands a nasty uppercut early in the round, and he follows up with a rousing rally that Jacobs mostly plays defense to. Danforth lands to the body with a hard hook, and then an uppercut to take round 6. Danforth takes the 7th and the round also sees Hyams swelling on one eye. The action slows quite a bit until Hyams is warned for a low blow in the 10th, and Danforth slickly leaves Hyams wanting while Danforth nails him repeatedly to the head. Danforth lands a couple of dynamite shots that wobble Hyams in the 11th, and Danforth finally drops Hyams in round 12 for a 4 count early. Hyams rises but he's clearly shaken up, and Danforth takes full advantage. Hyams eye is becoming a problem, and Danforth outhustles the almost beaten Hyams. With a minute left in the 14th, Danforth shoots a right hand straight down the pipe, and Hyams wobbles again. There is a nice exchange in the final round early, and it's Danforth landing while targeting the swollen eye that Hyams sports. Hyams can't do much and the scorecard is no surprise. Tommy Danforth captures the EBC Featherweight Championship with a unanimous decision.

June 22, 1885

EBC - KRK Piramida - Kazan, Russia
HWPat Killen (#4, 9-4-0, 8KO) L12 Mervine Thompson (#7, 8-4-1, 2KO)

Thompson wobbles Killen with about a minute left in the 1st, and again early in round 2 with a right cross so Thompson takes the two opening rounds. Halfway through round 3 Thompson drops Killen with a right cross for a 3 count, and he scores heavily for the rest of the round. Killen comes back well in the 4th, and he scores with the right repeatedly. Thompson nails him with a flush right cross in the 5th, and Thompson puts a headlock on Killen and lands a few shots before the referee breaks them and warns Thompson. Killen attacks the body with gusto in the 6th, but Thompson absolutely hammers Killen upstairs in the 7th getting a little wild at one point and picking up a warning for holding and hitting. Killen's eye is swollen after the 7th, and each man attacks the body in the 8th resulting in a beautiful round. Thompson again leads the proceedings in the 9th round, and Killen is completely gassed. Thompson has a swollen eye himself by the final round. Round 10 is one of those rounds where both men go to war and the crowd goes wild for the final 2 minutes. Thompson barely edges out Killen in that final round, and the final scorecards read a unanimous decision victory for Mervine Thompson.

June 10, 1885

EBC - Club Amazura - Jamaica, NY
HWJohn P Clow (#8, 15-7-1, 4KO) W12 Jem Smith (#11, 5-3-1, 0KO)

Clow feels Smith out for half the opening round, then he topples Smith for a 4 count with a majestic right cross. Clow is a bit overcautious in the follow up, so not much happens. In round 2 the pace slows way way down, but Smith pulls off one pretty good flurry as the round ends. Clow jabs smoothly in the 3rd, and Smith can't cut off the ring so Clow hammers him with right hand leads late in the round. Clow traps Smith in a corner early in the 4th, and he has his way right up until Smith lands a body punch that seems to fold Clow in half for a moment. Both men are warmed up so they log a close round, but then in round 6 Clow just takes over throwing twice as many shots, while Smith misses everything. Clow takes the 7th, but there is noticeably less offense from both tired men. There's more action in the 8th, but Smith is pretty gassed at this point. Smith scores with a hard uppercut that wobbles Clow, but it's too little too late in the 9th and 10th. In round 11 Smith again doesn't land a single punch, while Clow masterfully jabs and moves. Smith tries his best in the final round, but his most damaging blow is a head butt. John P Clow takes the decision by a country mile.

June 07, 1885

EBC - Monterrey Arena Coliseo - Monterrey, Mexico
HW(R8)(T)John L Sullivan (Chmp, 27-3-0, 20KO) TKO8 George OC Godfrey (#2, 21-9-0, 13KO)

Sullivan scores with a right hand lead that staggers Godfrey at the 20 second mark of the opening round, and Sullivan builds on that and he hammers Godfrey for the much of round 1. Godfrey wobbles the champ with 15 seconds left in round 1 with a body shot. Early in round 2 Godfrey maneuvers Sullivan into a corner and lands to the body, and "Old Chocolate" works a heavy jab until he scores with a right hand lead that wobbles Sullivan again. Sullivan continues to eat hard shots upstairs and he doesn't land but 1 punch in the round. Sullivan does a good job with the footwork and right hands in the 3rd, but Godfrey's hand speed keeps the round very close. Round 4 is shaping up to be like the 3rd, and this time Godfrey lands heavily with a nasty left hook that sees Sullivan staggering around the ring trying his best to block and move. "The Great John L" lands first in round 5 with a huge power left hook that sees Godfrey on his horse, until Sullivan scores with another right hand, but Godfrey dominates the last minute of the 5th which turns out more or less even. Godfrey lands a big right hand to kick off the 6th, and he has Sullivan covering up after a big right hand on the beltline hurts him. Godfrey takes the 6th with his body attack, and the champion is gassed after the round while Godfrey conservatively has a half tank. In round 7 both men are very cautious, right up until Godfrey topples the champion Sullivan for a 6 count with 45 seconds left. Sullivan covers and doesn't land even 1 punch in the round. Sullivan fights in spurts because of his energy problems, and he lands a left hook on Godfrey's chin that floors George for a 9 count. George is up and Sullivan tears into him for the remainder of round 8, until referee Florio mercifully saves Godfrey to fight another day. John L Sullivan retains his EBC Heavyweight Championship by way of 8th round TKO.

June 02, 1885

EBC - Casino Vodoley - Ekaterinburg, Russia
FW(R2)Harry Mead (#3, 18-7-6, 2KO) W10 Fred Johnson (#4, 4-4-0, 0KO)

Johnson rallies at the end of round 1 to take the round, but a minute into round 2 Mead scores with a nasty uppercut that sends Johnson tottering around the ring for the remainder of the round. Round 3 is a no holds barred shoot-out at ring center that neither man wins conclusively, but Mead narrowly wins the 4th round. Mead easily wins round 5 when Johnson fails to land even 1 punch, and more of the same in round 6 but Fred lands one hard shot that cuts Mead on his mouth at the bell. Mead does a great job rallying late in the 7th after a dead even 2 minutes of the round, and Johnson shows a puffy eye after the round. The action slows in round 8 when Johnson holds a bunch. Johnson narrowly wins the 9th, and he clearly wins the 10th and final round. The final scorecards show a unanimous decision victory by Harry Mead 97-93, 98-92 and 97-94.

EBC - 115 Bourbon Street - Merrionete Park, IL
HWMervine Thompson (#10, 7-4-1, 2KO) W12 Frank Herald (#11, 10-8-0, 7KO)

A minute into the fight Herald lands a pair of hard uppercuts that put Thompson on the run in round 1, but Thompson takes over the round after that and Herald taken to school on the power punch thing. However Herald does all the work in round 2, and Thompson doesn't land a punch in the round. Herald sticks to the uppercut early in round 3, but Thompson comes back well in the second half of round 3 with one really nice right hand lead. Round 4 is a great action round that brings those in attendance to their feet, though no one clearly wins on the card. Thompson wobbles Herald with some nice body work early in the 5th, but Herald continues to land uppercuts that harry Thompson into retreating. Thompson lands a crushing right hand lead with a few seconds left in the 5th, and Herald does an ugly stutter step to stay on his feet. Herald does a good job of controlling the action with his jab in the 6th, though both men are fairly exhausted after the round. The 7th is too close to call as both men tire badly, but round 8 sees exactly one punch by each fighter landing right up until both fighters land hard shots that stagger the other with about 10 seconds left in the round. Herald is winning round 9 when suddenly Thompson floors him with 1 second left in the round. Herald immediately jumps up at the count of 1, but the damage on the scorecard is done as Thompson picks up a 2 point round. Thompson does all the work in round 10 as Herald rests, and round 11 is more of the same and Herald suddenly finds himself trailing on the card. Herald finally wakes up in the final round, but Thompson still does more to probably take the round. The final scorecard shows Mervine Thompson the unanimous decision winner 117-110, 117-111 and 117-112.

May 17, 1885

EBC - Beaumont Club - Kansas City, MO
FW(R2)Torpedo Billy Murphy (#5, 13-5-0, 10KO) KOby1 Jacob Hyams (#1, 10-1-0, 8KO)

Hyams wastes no time digging into Murphy's body, and then he drops Murphy for a 4 count about a minute into the fight with a terrific right cross. Murphy runs into a series of nasty power shots to the body when he gets up, and then finally with about 30 seconds left in the very first round, Hyams cranks up a really clean combination that drops Murphy for the full count. For his knockout victory, Jacob Hyams will face Tommy Danforth for the vacant EBC Featherweight Title in June 1885.

May 10, 1885

EBC - Poliesportiu Furn d'Estampa - Hospitalet de Llobregat, Spain
HW(R2)Jake Kilrain (#3, 28-7-0, 18KO) W12 Patsy Cardiff (#12, 3-3-2, 1KO)

Kilrain scores with a couple of powerful right crosses in round 1, but by the bell Cardiff lands well enough to make the round very close. Just at the bell Cardiff breaks 2 bones in his right hand on Kilrain's cast iron noggin. In round 2 Cardiff tries a different tack, nailing Kilrain with a nasty head butt which causes Kilrain to turn away holding his head. The referee immediately penalizes Cardiff a point, which hardly affects the fight because they only hold and don't actually fight in the 2nd. Half-way through the 3rd round Cardiff lands a huge right hand that freezes Kilrain on the ropes, but Jake comes back strong after a few seconds to land a couple of hard right hands while Cardiff's right is nowhere to be found. Patsy probably wins the next round, although he is clearly hampered by his injured paw. Kilrain is the only one to land a punch at all in round 5, and round 6 is uniformly dull which starts to make the crowd restless. Cardiff is completely gassed by round 7 so Kilrain has an easy job of outworking the canadian expatriate from a safe distance. More of the same in round 8 but Jake throws in a couple of right hands to keep Cardiff honest. Late in round 9 Cardiff lands a whistling left hook to the ribcage that wobbles the former champion. There is one servicable exchange in round 10, but Cardiff can't keep pace with a busted right. Cardiff desperately tries to land a hard punch in the 11th, but the left hand gives no good result. With a minute left in the bout Kilrain opens up trying to knock out the stubborn canadian, but Cardiff is standing at the final bell. The scorecards show Kilrain a unanimous decision winnner by a lopsided count.

May 05, 1885

EBC - Trend Eventhotel Pyramid - Vienna, Austria
HWPeter Jackson (#1, 17-2-1, 12KO) D10 Mike Conley (#6, 9-4-2, 6KO)

30 seconds in Conley fires a leaping left hook that floors Jackson for a 4 count, and he lands some hard right hands in the follow up, producing a thrilling opening round. Conley sees the formulae for his success and he bum rushes Jackson again, and again Jackson is floored for a 3 count this time. Conley really has "The Black Prince" on the run late in the 2nd, and Conley lands a crushing right cross that stuns Jackson again with 15 seconds left in round 2. In round 3 Jackson backs Conley into a corner and hits him with a great right cross that staggers Conley, but Mike employs a tight defense to stop Jackson's rally. With a minute left in round 4 Jackson connects with another lethal right cross and Conley staggers around the ring trying to block, and Jackson can't finish him so Conley lands a devastating body shot at the end of the 4th. 45 seconds into round 5 Jackson lands a huge right hand that wobbles Conley again. Jackson again is the hunter in round 5, but Conley slows the action to a crawl with his incessant holding. Jackson takes a breather in round 6, which allows Conley to score with some hard shots upstairs while Jackson tries to block in vain. Jackson sports a puffy eye when he comes to post for round 7, and Conley continues to hammer the former champion who doesn't land a punch in the round. Jackson recovers and he lands some brutal shots early in round 8, and Conley can't make the adjustment so Jackson hammers him for the entirety of round 8. Conley snaps a hard jab home a minute into round 9, and Jackson's nose begins to spurt blood, but Jackson clearly wins the round outhustling Conley. Jackson starts round 10 by launching a power right cross that drops Conley for a 6 count. Jackson lands several shots flush on the jaw of Conley, and Mike barely makes it to the final bell. The scorecards show a majority draw.

EBC - Gym Rayo Vallecano - Madrid, Spain
LW(T)Barney Donovan (Chmp, 23-1-0, 20KO) TKO4 Paddy Smith (#2, 5-2-0, 1KO)

There is some nice crisp punching from both men in the first 2 minutes of the bout, and then suddenly Donovan lands a left hook that drops Paddy Smith like a bad habit. Smith is up at 4, and Donovan punishes the challenger. Smith does a good job of changing the pace and using his legs in the 3rd to stay out of danger while landing better and harder punches doing it. Donovan scores heavily to the body early in round 3, then Barney lands an uppercut that buckles the knees of Smith with a minute left in the round. Donavan dominates the last minute of round 3, and Smith just looks outgunned. Donovan scores with a hard uppercut and a right hand lead that floors Smith again. Smith rises at 7 not looking so good, and Donovan wades in with both hands flying. Smith's eye swells alarmingly and Donovan commences raining punches down on the stricken Paddy Smith before referee Stanley Christodoulou rescues the brave challenger. Barney Donovan retains his EBC Lightweight Championship with a 4th round TKO.
