Foci:
Magic has been very much a 'hereditary' thing in the Robinson family; a
Hermetic marrying a Hermetic and steeping the resulting children in Hermetic
culture tends to lead to more knowledge gained, and thus gives the offspring
a head start on the road to Enlightenment. Because of this, there are a
couple things Elizabeth always, always, always has on her person – these are
comfort items more than foci, though both serve as such. One is an old, old
Zippo style lighter, heavy and gold, inlaid with semi-precious stones in a
design that, when looked at just right, resembles the symbol of House
Flambeau, and the other is a pocket watch of similar design, with the stones
vaguely resembling the sign of House Solificati. The lighter and watch are,
of course, used as foci for Forces and Time, respectively, though for the
other spheres, her foci are different . . . and tend toward the childish,
reflecting her very young awakening. For Mind effects, usually something as
simple as eye contact will work, Entropy is an odd application of the chaos
theory . . . and so on. These foci (minus the watch and lighter) tend to be
very malleable, shifting with mood and desired effect, or sometimes at a
childish whim. (And I tried, but I can't do this in outline form for her –
there's too much explanation required. Sorry.)
FLAWS
Mistaken Identity (1pt) - only in mage and fae society (or to
those with strong lores in either), Elizabeth could easily be mistaken for a
powerful mage in medieval times (a direct ancestor from House Flambeau; the
look carries through her father's line) who made honorable dealings with the
then wilder fae. This would work wonderfully for her, but for the way that
some fae hold the position that the promises made were broken - those fae
are usually unseelie, or darker seelie. In human society, she simply brings
to mind the old wizards – the fireball and lightning wielding wizards of
fairy tales.
Compulsion (4 pts) - The girl has been book-ish since she
taught herself to read at about three or four, and now, she inhales the
written word like most inhale air. Especially around books of the more
antique variety, Lizzie has trouble tearing herself away.
Nightmares (1pt) - When Doissetep fell, Lizzie's parents were
there. Literally as it happened, she had a vision, saw nearly everything
through her parents eyes . . . the fires, the bombs, the hit marks,
everything. Nearly every night she dreams of it to a greater or lesser
degree . . . the good nights are when her own screams wake her up.
Echoes (1 pt) - If Lizzie's reflection is seen in a mirror or
shop window, or any reflective medium (and also in photographs) she appears
to be surrounded by consuming flames.
