Gold !!!

A special exhibition to illustrate people's fascination with gold through the ages

15 October 2002 - 15 January 2003

Gold has been used in worship since the earliest times.  The golden bowl (right) was used in religious rites, and is beautiful as well as functional.

This golden torc was probably worn by a chieftain.  It displays artistry as well as wealth.  Metallurgical analysis of the gold showed that it was mined from the same area in Wales (UK) as the wedding ring of Diana, Princess of Wales.

This golden knife was meant for ceremonial, rather than everyday, use.
