Little Totterington - the tale begins

{Keith} Keith smiled broadly at the two and clapped his hands together for effect. "Sometimes the signs are hard to read, Random. Usually, for example, the final death of a seer is hidden from him or her by the twists of fate. Tonight, though, I knew immediately upon entering the club that tonight was special. I guess," he said grinning, "that when Death comes this close, you can't help but notice it." "And that's where you two come in, or rather the whole lot of you. While I was explaining to the rest of the gang earlier that this was going to be our last gang bang, something muddied the waters, so to speak. You see," Keith continued, as if lecturing some students, "Most lives are like little waves in a great pond. Some waves are bigger, some smaller. They move and interact, producing this illusion we call reality. But you guys are like a rock tossed into the pool. You come out of nowhere and create a big splash." "Now, however you do that, it's a neat trick." Keith stopped for a moment, waiting to see if either Jack or Random would offer any explanations. When they didn't, he smiled and continued. "The thing is, I gotta know which way you're splashing tonight. There are a bunch of unhappy bloodsuckers downstairs that have decided that having an Oracle in town who doesn't toe the line is awfully inconvenient. In fact, very soon, they are going to attempt to murder all of us mages and wipe out my jolly gang." "Now I'm not the type to ask for favors, but in this case I'm asking you not for my own sake, but for all of us. You might even save your own skins. The head dead guy down there named Kolya isn't too particular about who he makes into a vamp happy meal." "So what do you say folks?" Keith asked.
{Edith}
Edith’s immediate thought was to call out in case there was a doctor or nurse in the club, and to reach into her handbag to phone for an ambulance. Her voice was drowned by the noise around her, and she remembered that her mobile would not work here. Then she realised that no-one else was alarmed by, or even seemed aware of……. the apparition. That’s what it was! A spirit. Nothing to be afraid of. Edith took a deep breath, and tried to stop trembling.
Now what had Jeffrey told her? ‘Glean what afflicts it’ She remembered his smile after he said this. So what did this woman want? As a keen follower of EastEnders and Brookside, Edith was familiar with the way that people wanted revenge for gory deaths in soap operas. Was that what the woman wanted?
‘Can I help you, dear?’ Edith said, loudly.
The vacant expression stayed on the ghost’s face, but she raised a languid arm to point at a pale young man who was pushing his way between two revellers to reach Edith. His predatory expression was truly frightening, and Edith instinctively clutched her handbag more tightly. There was something unnatural about him [Life 1]. He did not slow, but kept coming towards her, finally passing through the ghost without pausing. As he got within arm’s length, Edith swung her handbag at him, and it connected with a satisfying thud. She must have luckily caught him off balance because he staggered back [Entropy 2]. Indeed, she realised that the bag was much heavier than usual. It seemed to have become metallic [Matter 2]. As she hesitated between retreating or hitting him again, Edith realised that fights were breaking out all over the room, and that two more of these unnatural people were coming towards her, a man and a woman.
{Grace} {Aaron} Aaron watched as the young lady tumbled to his feet, deflected by the ward he had hastily erected around himself. Trying to block out the melee that surrounded him, Aaron started releasing the magical threads that warped the area around the dance bar. As he cut the magical energies with surgical precision, he watched as a young woman was gleefully ripped in half by two young men. The two men were bathed in the blood that spurted from her dismembered corpse, their stylish clothing becoming wet crimson shrouds. Aaron also saw a creature with barred fangs grab Grace and pin her arms... The story continues ..... email us to join in. |
