The Furry Dance weekend was a great success, say Little Totterington villagers
Despite the tragic events that marred the start of the festive weekend, villagers considered this year's dance was a great success. Last minute substitutions in the dance team, due to illness, meant that the dancing might not have been as polished as in previous years, but the dancers made up for it with enthusiasm and good humour. Our photographer was there to capture events. See his pictures!
   
Vicar leads village in prayer before Furry Dance
Preparations went ahead for the Furry Dance weekend at Little Totterington, despite recent tragic events in the village.  The Vicar, Father Clay, led a special memorial service at sunrise on Sunday, that included Holy Communion will be celebrated.  The service re-affirmed Christian beliefs . All were welcome, and the service was especially welcomed by those who had been troubled by recent events in the village.  
   
   
Break- in at Little Totterington Veterinary Surgery
[dateline Saturday 28 September] The village was shocked by a burglary at the Totterington Veterinary Centre last night.  Extensive damage was caused to the front door and a cellar. The police said that some items were missing, and that they were concerned about the state of mind of the burglars.  They would not disclose why they made this statement, except to indicate that they had found indications of cruelty to animals and occult practices in the basement.  Miss Nora MacNab, a veterinary assistant, said tearfully that the surgery would re-open on Monday for emergencies only. The owner, Mr Alan Carder, was not available for comment.  
 
In an unrelated incident, a body was found in a camper-van on a farm campsite near Greater Totterington.  A quantity of drugs were recovered at the scene and police say that they are not looking for anyone else. 
   
   
Police foil drugs gang in Little Totterington
[dateline Friday 27 September] Guests at the annual Furry Dance Ball at Totterington Manor were horrified when several party-goers were taken violently ill.  Panicked guests described how people suddenly collapsed. Samples of the food and drink have been taken for forensic analysis.  A police spokeswoman said that food poisoning from a sea-food salad was suspected, although the force was keeping an open mind about the reason for the illness of the party-goers. 
   
   
Arson attack in Little Totterington  
[dateline Friday 27 September] The inhabitants of Orchard Lane, Little Totterington were left reeling on Friday night by a motiveless arson attack.  Hamish and Jennifer McInnes returned from a party to find that their house had been burnt to the ground.  Their son, Campbell, 8, who was in the house at the time of the attack was fortunately led to safety by his babysitter. The family are now staying with friends. A spokesman for Dearlcastle police said that they were following several lines of enquiry. 
   
   
Tragic death of young woman  
[dateline Sunday 22nd September] The body of young woman was found in in an empty house in Little Totterington late Sunday night.  Police investigations are continuing, but the officer co-ordinating the investigation, Detective Inspector Telegraff said, 'This was a particularly brutal and apparently motiveless attack on a young woman.  We urge anyone who was near Miniver House, and Barnwood Road on Sunday evening to contact us.  They may have information that will help us.'
   
She had been identified as Professor Helen Riley, with the Burton Chair of Middle Eastern History at Durham University.  A spokesman for the university said that this was a loss to historical scholarship, and that her colleagues were devastated.
