Waterloo St in FernsideThe typical Victorian terrace, built to house the workers of the British Empire, are barely up to twenty-first century standards. Even the one-car household has to squeeze into the narrow roads, designed for pedestrians and the occasional trades-man's horse-drawn cart. Extensions - of bedrooms above, and bathrooms behind, try to meet the demands of modern life. Photographs: Jack Peterson (© 2002) |
