Go to:
Goomba Village
Rise and shine, Mario. Waking up in Goomba Village you're ready to begin your quest. Immediately search all surrounding bushes for items, and talk to everyone. You will quickly find out that there are many obstacles on your path to save Princess Peach from the clutches of the evil Bowser.
You first obstacle is the broken gate. Go into the Goomba's house and exit through the back door and talk to the old Goomba on the porch. When you exit back out front you will find the gate is fixed. Unfortunately once you fix the gate Kammy Koopa drops a giant block onto it, blocking your path again. You need to retrieve the hammer from grandpa Goomba, named Goompa, out on the back porch. When you exit the back door of the Goomba's house, you find the porch has broken and is missing. Gravity takes over, and you fall to the ground below. Nearby you meet up with Goompa who tells you to look for a hammer. It is hidden to the west in the next area. Search the bush all the way to the left. There is your hammer. With the hammer you be able to smash objects and knock items out of trees. You find "Dolly" (Peach's doll) hidden in this area. There are three trees, and in the very right tree is Dolly. Smash its trunk with your hammer to knock the doll from its branches. Master Jr. Troopa:As you attempt to exit the area, you run into the odd-looking Master Jr. Troopa. Only use your hammer attack on him, as his eggshell will protect him from jump attacks.
On your way back to Goomba Village be sure to check around for items in trees and on ledges. For instance, hop on a nearby jump pad and pick up your first fire flower item on the ledge.
Star Piece: You can find your very first star piece placed at the end of the upper ledge that is occupied by some Goombas.
As you return back to Goomba Village you find the whole family greets you. If you managed to knock Dollyout of the tree, Goombaria asks for it back.
Star Piece: Give your dolly to Goombaria, and in return she'll give you a star piece and a kiss!
The conversation continues and you get a Power Jump Badge from Goompa. Then, finally, after some begging your biggest admirer, Goombario, joins your party. It's time to finally leave. Smash the large block and head east. BEWARE: The first sign you read (with a Goomba picture on it), a Goomba jumps out at you. Stay alert. Get the Close Call Badge from the red question mark block. Equip it right away. The sign just up the road features a picture of a mushroom, and if you read it the item will fall off so you can pick it up. As you continue forward, you run smack dab into the Goomba Bros., and they won't settle for anything but a fight.
Boss: Goomba Bros. (Red and Blue)
Red Goomba stats:HP: 7 - Attack Power: 1 - Defense Power: 0
Blue Goomba stats:HP 6, Attack Power 1, Defense Power 0
Focus all attacks Blue Goomba first, because he has less HP than his older brother. Now get Red Goomba. If your HP ever drops to 2, heal yourself with a mushroom. After the fight is over, go backwards and refresh your heart points by hitting the healthy, happy heart block.
BEWARE: Yet another tricky sign. The item it shows is a mushroom, but it will jump out at you as a Goomba. That's the least of your worries, though, as the powerful King Goomba lies just ahead, angered that you beat up his two assistants, Red and Blue Goomba.
Boss: King Goomba
HP: 10 - Attack Power: 1 - Defense Power: 0
Take out the Goomba brothers before you attend to the king. You should still have that fire flower left, so use that first since it hits all characters. This will dispose of the Goomba Bros. After that the King should be no sweat. Use your special power jumps to accelerate the process.
Tip:Notice the white cross on the foot of the tree, and notice the giant pokey fruit on top of the Goomba King. If you hit the tree with your hammer, the fruit will fall, hitting the Goomba King on the head.
By now you should have collected enough star points to have leveled up. Now you have your choice to level up your HP by 5, your FP by 5, or your BP (badge points) by 3. Since your attack power is still relatively low, it's wise to upgrade your FP so you be able to do a lot more damage with your special moves.
Outside of King Goomba's fortress is a bush. Search it and you find a blue switch. Of course you want to press it so you can continue.
As you come down that following set of ledges, be sure to swing back around at the very bottom and pick up the sleepy sheep item in the question mark box. Approaching the entrance to Toad Town, you pass under pavilion. If you look carefully there is a jump pad up in the tree out front. Smash the tree trunk with your hammer, knocking the jump pad down. You can use it to jump on the roof of the pavilion. There you find a treasure chest that holds the Hammer Throw Badge.
Toad Town
When you enter a town or a village you can go back and fight enemies again. It is highly suggested you do this to level up (gain 100 star points) before you continue to new areas. Because areas are often so close to town you can go back to town to heal yourself at Toad's house for free. So even in the worst situations you can't help but walk away with more gold coins and star points.
Star Piece: Now that you've reached the next town, you can go back to Goomba Village and see Chuck. Chuck Quizmo's his name, a wormy fellow in a purple hat; he's waiting for you to the left of the Goomba's home. Take the quiz to win a star piece. Here's a trick: Save just before you take the quiz. If you fail to answer correctly just reset and take the quiz again! Chuck asks, "What is the name of Goombario's little sister?" Answer: Goombaria.
At last you've arrived in Toad Town. Feel free to hop down the green pipe near the entrance to visit Luigi and Mario's House. Here you can check your statistics, recover if you need to, and even check for mail. Then you should spend some of that hard-earned money. Stock up on plenty of firepower and things like honey to refresh your Flower Power. Then go north through the giant blue gate stamped with a star icon, and next travel eastward where stars will start to fall from the sky. There are two paths. The lower path leads to Murluvee's place, the fortuneteller. There she can tell you secrets (though, so can this guide!) for a price (did we mention this guide is free!?). Upstairs above Muluvee's you can find her brother Merlow, who will trade you badges for star pieces. The higher path leads to Shooting Star Summit. This is a perfect place to start, so take the higher path.
Star Piece: You can find a star piece hidden around the bottom of the summit in the back.
At the top of the mountain are the 7 Star Spirits. Talking to them will eventually lead to receiving the Lucky Star Pendant that allows you to use the action command. Unless you're looking to blow money on Murluvee's fortunes, head back towards town. Just before you get back you run into an evil Magikoopa looking for trouble.
Boss: Magikoopa
HP: 8 - Attack Power: 3 - Defense Power: 0
Use your power jump in combination with your newfound action command. The fight is a cinch.
Now go visit Merlon at his house with the spinning roof. Be sure to knock twice, as he'll try to ignore you. He tells you to go east to Koopa Village, but when you try to go four toads will be blocking your way. Go back and see Merlon for more help. Be sure to stand next to him, not in front of his crystal ball. He will get rid of those pesky "toads."
Star Piece: Smash the tree beside the bulletin board near Merlon's.
But, before you go, why not stop by and see The Master at his Dojo? You couldn't get in to see him before, but now he's back. Beat his students in a fight and you can win the first-degree card and then second-degree card. If you can beat him (and you probably wont' be able to without stocking up on items or leveling up) you get a third-degree card. The Master has 50 HP, and an attack power of 6, with 0 Defense Power. When you're done meddling with him and many of the other minor things in town you should get to heading eastward to Pleasant Path, which the "toads" were blocking.
