Metroid: Out of the Darkness
In this story, Samus Aran has been hired to defeat the Space Pirates. But there's more to them than meets the eye...
Chapter 1
It had been a simple mission. Infiltrate the military facility, download the files on some guy that their client wanted to know about, and get out. But even an expert can screw up sometimes…
The alarms blared. A lone soldier ran down a long corridor, bullets whizzing by their head and just missing. More and more soldiers seemed to come after passing every corner. Then, they brought out the big guns. Rockets flew past the soldier and exploded, sending shrapnel into their face. "Thank God for the helmet." Thought the soldier. It was starting to get a bit overwhelming. It was time to stop and fight. The soldier dived behind a corner, starting to charge their gun. They performed an acrobatic flip to the other corner and fired the gun, taking out a small group of soldiers. Going for another attack, the soldier got hit in the soldier. "Damn!!" They shouted it loud and clear. The soldiers knew they hit their target. There was no point in going back down the corridor. They brought a map up on the inside of their helmet, listing possible escape routes. And soon enough they were off again. "Almost there…" The complex’s entrance was in plain sight. The soldier broke through the glass on the door… and was greeted by an attack ship. "Oh Sh…"
Chapter 2
The attack ship’s engines buzzed and were soon drowned out by the sound of gunfire. The soldier hit a dead run, mowing down several guards along the way. The soldier was almost there. All that was left to do was to cross the upcoming bridge and get into their ship. But the pilot of the attack ship had thought ahead. The bridge started exploding behind the soldier. One last jump was all it took to get the solider up and over the exploding bridge. They got into their ship and started to take off. The attack ship wasn’t going to let one soldier get out alive. A heated dogfight started in the air. The attack ship fired rockets at the soldier’s ship, which were easily evaded. All it took were some well-placed shots from the soldier’s plasma cannons to the engine of the attack ship to take it down. The soldier made it out alive. "Report" The voice boomed from the ship’s communications module. "I got your files for you. There’s just the small matter of payment to deal with now." A voice said from behind the soldier’s helmet. "10 million credits, as agreed. Dropped off at your place. There’s just one more thing." "What?" "I want to see what’s under the helmet." "All my friggin’ clients want to see. All right you can look." The solider took off their helmet, revealing the blonde haired woman in the suit. The woman’s client looked stunned. "I didn’t think that Samus Aran was a woman." "Damn straight." Samus said. " You got a problem with that?" "No." "Good. I gotta go." The conversation ended. "It never ceases to amaze me." Thought Samus. She was happy. She had just infiltrated a military instillation that had incredibly high security and 10 million credits were waiting for her at home. But there was one thing she had overlooked: the soldier that had decided to take a ride on the bottom of Samus’ ship.
Chapter 3
Samus lay on her bed, carefully taking off her armor and wondering what she could buy with all the money she’d soon have. She was about to fall asleep when there was a loud beeping coming from the cockpit. "What? Out of gas already?" Samus thought. She stopped at a service station close to her location. She was about to go get the attendant when she heard a loud clanking underneath her ship. Samus drew her gun and proceeded to take a look when the attendant came up behind her. "Need some help?" he said. Samus jumped. "Did you have to come up behind me? Just fill it up." She said. Samus looked under the ship and saw nothing. What she didn’t notice was the soldier from the military base sneaking into the ship.
Samus got back into the ship and flew into space. She was just getting ready to put the ship into hyper drive when she heard banging in the sleeping quarters. She took a plasma rifle from its hook and went to investigate. Everything seemed quiet. Samus looked under the beds and found nothing. Then she heard a closet door creaking open. She pretended not to hear anything. The faint footsteps of the intruder were headed toward the cockpit. Samus turned around quickly. "Move and I fry your ass." The soldier froze in place. "Now turn around so I can see you. Don’t try anything." The stowaway turned around slowly. Samus didn’t recognize him. "Two questions: who the hell are you and why are you here?"
"You infiltrated the facility on STI 121. That takes a hell of a lot of courage and skill, not to mention idiocy." The soldier commented as he paced. "You’re probably confused. I’m wearing the uniform from the facility but I haven’t attacked you. That’s because I don’t work there. I infiltrated it, just like you; mind you, I was a lot more stealthy."
"Is there a point to this conversation?" asked Samus.
"Yeah,"
replied the soldier. "You downloaded some files on a man from their
mainframe. I was sent to get the same info."
"Wait a second," said Samus. "I don’t think my client would
send two people out on a mission. Who sent you?"
"The Galactic Alliance sent me."
" The GA?!" The Galactic Alliance ran anything and everything political in the galaxy. Each planet and space station had his or her own representative from the Alliance. "Why would the Alliance want info on whoever this guy is?" asked Samus.
"They wouldn’t tell me who he was exactly. By the way, who are you?" asked the man.
"You first." Replied Samus.
"Special Agent Paul Davidson, Galactic Alliance Security Agency." He replied.
Samus hesitated a little. "Samus Aran."
Paul looked shocked. "The Samus Aran? The bounty hunter?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I was told that there might be another intruder in the facility but I never expected you."
"You going somewhere with this?""Yeah. The GA wants to find you for some big mission. They’ve sent out some memo saying that if an agent finds you, they should bring you in for a briefing."
"Whoa. First of all you haven’t told me why you’re here and what makes you think I’ll do some big mission for the Alliance? I’m a lone ranger, you should know that."
"I’m here because my transport got shot down and your ship was the only way out. You should do the mission for the Alliance because they can make it worth your while."
Samus was a fool for cash. "You’re going to the Alliance home world right?" Paul nodded. "Let’s go then."
Chapter 4
Samus and Special Agent Davidson reached the Galactic Alliance home world later that day. Samus didn’t want to be there at all but since there was money involved she couldn’t resist. Special Agent Davidson seemed to have a lot of authority at the place, getting them through all the security checkpoints. He brought Samus to a large, round room with seats lining the sides of it. There was a large desk like fixture in the middle and another smaller one in front of it. This must be their public conference room, thought Samus.
"Wait here and I’ll get the council." Said Paul. About 5 minutes later Paul returned with the Alliance Council behind him. All of the members greeted Samus."Ms.
Aran, we are in desperate times." Said one of the council members.
"The space pirates have been attacking key Alliance outposts, be it space
stations or on planets. They have absolutely no care for civilians and must be
stopped. We are considering them terrorists. We would like you to track them
down and stop them."
"Does this have anything to do with Special Agent Davidson’s infiltration
of the Pirates’ outpost on STI 101?" asked Samus.
"STI 101? There’s no Pirate outpost there. There is an Alliance base there though. That’s where we sent Special Agent Davidson." Another Council member added.
Samus’s jaw dropped. "My client told me that it was that it was a Pirate base; a key place of operations. That’s why there was some info there about an Alliance hostage being held by the pirates…"
The Council member from before added, "Your client must have been working for the Pir…" and was cut off by a bullet entering his skull.
"Paul, you look after the Council, I’ll go after the people who did this." Shouted Samus. As Samus ran she pressed a button on her wrist comm. unit that activated her suit. She felt the cold metal run across her legs and arms, slipping over her like a cold, metal blanket. In a matter of seconds Samus was suited up and ready to go. She activated the enhanced sound in her helmet and tried to find the sound of running but got something else. Something more disturbing…
"Yes sir, the assassinations are going as planned. We took out one of the council members who was vacationing on Kebal but there was some difficulty killing the latest one." Said a voice. Samus was shocked. There was a conspiracy to kill the members of the Galactic Council? Who was next? Who had the balls to do all this? They better not think I was involved, thought Samus.
"What was the trouble?" replied a deeper voice.
"He was called out of chambers before we could shoot him. We had to hit him during a meeting."
"As long as you killed the bastard. There are only 13 more to go. Keep up the good work." Samus pulled up a map of the building in her helmet. She pinpointed the location of the transmission and headed to it. After a long run, Samus reached the room. She noticed that there were some strange metal cases on the ground. She picked them up and went into the next room. Samus carefully entered the room, just in case there was anyone in there. It just so happened there was. Whoever this ways they had noticed her.
"Who the hell are you?" It was the voice from the transmission.
"I could ask you the same thing." Replied Samus. The man was very tall and had a stern face. He held up some sort of primitive weapon, aimed at Samus and fired. Luckily, the projectile bounced off of Samus’s suit. Samus tried to shoot at the assassin but he moved quicker than her. He ran into the next room. Samus followed him in but found nothing. All that was in the room was a balcony overlooking the Galactic Alliance conference area. This must have been where the shooter stood. Samus heard a weird clicking news above her. She looked up just in time to see the assassin drop from the rafters.
Samus jumped out of the way quickly and got ready to confront him. He aimed his weapon again but Samus was too quick for him. She knocked he weapon out of his hands before he could fire. "Had enough?" Samus asked cockily.
The assassin shook his head. "Nope. I’m just getting started." He tried to punch Samus but he all he hit was hard metal.
"Cocky little bastard." Said Samus as she shot him with a blast just weak enough to knock him out.
