Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II is an amazing flight simulator. The game is filled with nonstop action. It is a thrill to play this game because you actually feel like you are flying a spaceship. It is no wonder this game was the reader’s choice for the number one flight simulator of 2001 in the "Gamepro" Magazine. This game has everything, great spaceships, exceptional control, good graphics; freedom of choice, challenging missions and it is really fun to play even if you don’t like Star Wars. But if you are a Star Wars lover, you will be glad that there are some missions come straight out of the movie such as the attack on the Death Star and the battle with the big machines with four legs in the snow.

The graphics on this game are mind blowing. I could not believe how detailed the spaceships, landscapes and movies were. The game menus have scenes from the movies in the backgrounds so you can watch DVD quality short clips while you make your choices. I really liked this feature. Although he opening is kind of goofy the rest of the game is more interesting. Especially the classic Star Wars opening that fills you in on the story. The graphics are just really cool because they flow smoothly trough the game and you never see any slowdown even when there are eight enemies on the screen. This game is a sight for sore eyes, especially when hooked up to an S-video Cable.

Well the sound is superb. There are even music scores from the Star Wars movies. I was thrilled to hear them in this game. The special effects as you fire your ships weapons are also very good. You can hear how the tie fighters pass by you when you get really close to them. I really enjoy the orchestra playing during the game. The sound and special effects positively adds to the thrill of playing this game.

The controls are easy to learn. The A button fires your primary weapon. The B button fires your secondary weapon, some weapons require you to hold down this button to charge. The R button gives you a speed boost while the L button slows you down. The Y button opens up the infrared view. The analog control stick moves your spaceship and the directional pad gives orders to your wingmen depending on which direction you press it. Up to follow you, Down to retreat, Left is to divert fire and Right is to attack a specific enemy. Doing a 360-degree is fun and easy to do with this control scheme. You feel like you are actually in command of the "Rogue Squadron".

The gameplay is well above average. I really enjoyed having three views to choose from. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. There is the cockpit view, third person view, and the infrared view. In the cockpit and third person view you can change the camera angles to look on all directions for enemies while the infrared shows you the different enemies when your normal views can’t spot them or when they are really far away. You need to learn to play with all different views to pass all the missions. You can also give directions to your wingmen. This feature really enhances gameplay because you are not the only one fighting and you can call for help when you need it. You are given tasks to complete during each mission and although there is no timer, if you don’t complete within a certain time you fail the mission. You can fly freely trough each mission and when you complete a task you get to see a movie showing you the story. You also get medals after passing each mission. That added to the different ships you can unlock either by the use of pass codes or winning medals.

In conclusion, Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II is one of the best flight simulators out there. You won’t find anything as good as this game out there. The graphics are incredible, the music thrilling, the gameplay is fun and the controls are easy to learn. I really like this game because it is fast paced and exciting. The first training mission is kind of hard and boring though. Luckily, you can skip it to start the real game. I would really recommend this game to any Star Wars or anyone who likes flying games. It is fun to play.
