Help: Newbie Guide: Getting a Client

What do you need to connect to a MU*

There are two ways to connect: using raw telnet, or using a special client program. We recommend the latter, since MU*ing through raw telnet is a pain. Just trust us on that one if you haven't had to use it before.

There is a variety of MU* clients for different operating systems. The ones we recommend are:

Windows:
SimpleMU - http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com
MUSHClient - http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/mushclient.htm
zMUD - http://www.zuggsoft.com (this one is not the best choice for a MUSH/MUX, but some people use it and like it)

Macintosh:
Savitar - http://www.heynow.com/Savitar/index.html

Multiple OS:
TinyFugue - http://tf.tcp.com/~hawkeye/tf/

The address for every MU* typically consists of two parts: host name and port number. For example, the address for Olympus Island is cs1.betterbox.net 1960, where 'cs1.betterbox.net' is the host name, and 1960 is the port number. Sometimes the host name is replaced with an IP address (see page bottom). The two are equivalent as far as connecting to the game goes.

Read the help files for the client (or telnet application) you chose to use about how to enter the address information.

Once you do, you are ready for the next step below.
