Originally intended for NERV's use, these Evas were turned
against NERV in the movie after SEELE realized that
Commander Ikari was no longer obeying their orders. They are
piloted by the dummy-plug system, but using Kaoru's mind
pattern rather than Rei's; they also have a limitless power
supply, as they operate on S^2 (super-solenoid) engines.
They have flight capability (wings), as well as weapons that
can be transformed to miniature versions of the Lance of
Longinus. As fighters, they seemed to be rather poor (Asuka
took all nine down in less than four minutes), but their
regenerative abilities make up for this disadvantage. They
also turned out to be an integral part of third impact,
helping to form the Tree of Life with Unit-01. |
