Official Dreamcast Magazine #5

Much better then the previous demo disc ( # 4 of course ), the Official Dreamcast Magazine # 5 demo disc has alot of games to offer with most of them having lots of replayability.

Dead or Alive 2
In this beautiful looking fighting game you can choose up to 3 fighters: Ayane, Ein and Kasumi. You can fight in around 4 or 5 impressive looking stages that you can interact with. Example: In a castle stage you start out the fight near one of the sides, and if one of the fighters get to close to the edge the other fighter can knock him/her to the ground below where you can continue the fight. The controls are like any basic fighting game ( punch, kick, parry, combos etc etc. ) and you can move freely around the stages just by moving the analog stick around. The fighters also have an amazing amount of detail on there bodies. ( especially the women.....let's just leave it at that ). It's a fun demo, to bad you can't play with 2 players in this demo.

Demo Rating - 8/10

Carrier
You start the game out crash landing the helicopter on the Heimdal Aircraft Carrier after getting shot down. You are part of the SPARC investigation team and your job was to find out what is going on in this carrier. I'm kind of disappointed that you only get 5 minutes to play this game cause it takes some time to get use to the controls ( Resident Evil style ). You have a couple of weapons to start out with ( gun, explosives etc etc ) and a scanner that can detect if something is a human or creature, I think it's a cool feature and lets the game stand out from other survival horror games. Once you get used to the controls it's a fun but short demo.

Demo Rating - 7/10 ( because of a really short time limit. )

F1 World Grand Prix
You won't get to be racing against other cars in this demo, only by yourself in the time attack mode. You get to pick between 4 racing teams ( 2 drivers each ) and can only play on one track, but you can mess around with the weather to make it interesting each time. The controls may be hard to get used to at first but you'll get the hang of it. This wasn't the most enjoyable demo on the disc since it didn't have much to offer.

Demo Rating - 4/10

Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver
You play as Raziel as he ( it? ) tries to take his revenge on Kain after what he has done to his body. In the demo your object is to get a torch, find fire and light a flame in front of a statue. You have all sorts of abilities to help you get by, like hovering, devouring souls to replenish your health and changing realms. Now changing to and fro from both the material ( ''flesh'' world ) and spectral realms ( the afterlife I guess ) are a big key factor in the game as they'll help you get by certain areas. Not the most fun demo, but it had it's moments.

Demo Rating - 5/10

Gundam Side Story 0079 - Rise From the Ashes
Probably the best thing on the demo disc, they gave you an entire level to play around in. You are in charge of an MS team - The White Dingo, and your mission in the demo disc is to destroy the enemies ( Zeon ) from the city. At first you might think the controls are impossible at first, you move by using the D-pad and move your upper torso by using the analog control, all while trying to attack, lol. But once you get used to it ( man, it seems like I'm saying that lot in this review ) you'll realize how much cool this game is. You can only control your own mobile suit but you can still order you other men ( and woman ) to go around or attack certain things. Once you complete this demo you'll want to come back to it again and just mess around and have fun. I loved playing the demo so much I eventually bought the actual game.

Demo Rating - 9/10

Revolt
Yet another racing game but instead of real cars, you'll be in control of a remote control car. You can choose 2 cars and one track ( Toys in The Hood 1 ) up against other remote cars for 3 laps ( you can change that ). It won't be easy getting through the track as you have to avoid both moving objects and the other cars weapons ( obtained by picking up power-ups ). The controls are fine but can be a little slippery at times, it's a good demo that you'll enjoy.

Demo Rating - 6/10

Slave Zero
I was hoping to play one of the one player stages on this demo but instead I end up getting the FPS 2 ( 3 or 4 ) player mode. You'll only be able to fight in a really small stage with tons of ammo and guns scattered all over, and the controls are a bit hard at first ( think of Turok ) but you'll get used to it ( there I go again ). This was my least favorite game on the disc, but I guess you have to be playing with more then one person to enjoy it.

Demo Rating - 4/10

Sega Swirl
And yet again Sega Swirl makes another appearance on these demo discs. It's a puzzle game, the object of the game is to try to get swirls of the same color together and rake up big points. The following modes are in the game: Level challenge, Single Game challenge, Versus challenge, E-mail challenge and Split Screen challenge ( my favorite ). It's not bad but I don't think you'll be playing it that much.

Demo Rating - 5/10

It's a mixed bag but overall it's a good demo disc with some games offering a lot of replay value, so you'll probably be playing some of these games for a while.

Overall - 7/10
