FILIPINO NATIVE GAMES
Palo-sebo is just one of the games that are part of fiestas and celebrations. Palo-sebo is a Spanish word meaning "Greased Pole". This game was brought here by the Spaniards over 400 years ago. This contest of climbing up a greased pole to get a prize at the very tip was played in Europe hundreds of years ago.

A fiesta is all the more a fiesta when there is a game of palo-sebo. A tall stout bamboo pole, festooned at the top, towers over the plaza. Its sides are shiny and slippery with coconut oil/grease rubbed on just before the bamboo is set up.

BALIK TANAW:
San Lorenzo Village Fiesta 2005
Incredidble and aplausible! That's what the people says during the presentation of Filipino Native Games (FNG's) in San Lorenzo Village Park ,with the theme "Balik Katutubo" which theme is to celebrate the arts and culture through larong pinoy during the fiesta day last May 21,2005. The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) sponsored the whole day event for the community to experience the joy of Filipino indi games such as sangkayaw, karera ng sako, basag palayok, batuhang bola, sipa, hagisan ng itlog, palo sebo, kainan ng pulboron, ihip ng barya, with the two giant pabitin as their culmination game. Big prizes persuade the participants to play all the lined up games. Amazed by what they've seen as the Flip Spin Association headed by Mr. Edmund San Antonio, demonstrated the exciting tricks of Yoyo and on trumpo is by Loloy Sales. Our world class Filipino Martial Arts Arnis also attracts the attention of the crowd, performed by the Philippine Tourism Arnis Exhibition Team together with the Philippine Jendo Association. Baranggay Officials of San Lorenzo Village did their best in making the event possible.
TRADITIONAL GAME RULES
Upon the desire of the Bureau of Physical Education and School Sports (BPESS) to foster patriotism, nationalism and appreciation of traditional games among the youth, it embarked on a difficult but fruitful task to search and record the traditional games from the different regions of the country.

Their patience, dedication and untiring effort to identify these games based upon their popularity and competetive quality paid off. "Tumbang Preso," "Palo-sebo," "Kadang-Kaang" (bamboo stilt), "Patintero," "Dinoran," "Culliot" (Pushing with bamboo), and "Bati-Cobra" (hitting sticks), are examples of these traditional games.

The successful launching of the first "Palaro ng Lahi" on February 10, 1984 at Laoag, Ilocos Norte through the combined efforts of MECS, Office of the Provincial Governor and Office of the Municipal Mayor, prompted the BPESS to include these "Laro ng Lahi" as an activity for physical education.

These games can be played individually or by teams. They are very convenient to play because of the limited space it requires and the simplicity of its rules.... Click here
